Starship Idea - TOS and TMP style Akula Class Destroyer

After watching the most recent episode of Trekyards - that deals with the Saladin class Destroyer - my husband and I have been discussing one of the variants, the Akula. Similar to the Saladin, the Akula adds another warp nacelle, this time placed above the saucer in a direct vertical line with the main nacelle, slung underneath. I know this ship would rely on whomever owns the design to approve its addition into the game; but I do think it'd be rather cool to have.

Cool yes. But you hit it on the head with the fact its a legal issue on who owns the designs.

Agreed, though the Trekyards breakdown incorrectly referred to the Akula as the North Carolina. In keeping with a 'destroyer'-type layout, it could perhaps have a 5 fore/2 aft weapons design, with perhaps a 2 Engineering, 3 Science and 4/5 Tactical console arrangement as well. I am presently uncertain as to what a special console could entail, however. Below is a DeviantArt photograph of what the Akula looks like, in both its Original Series and Motion Picture configurations, along with a hypothetical Kelvin-era configuration. (Credit is given to the author, 'enterprisedavid', for this picture). If such a design were ever implemented, I would be curious to see what it would look like using the 'modern' 25th Century configuration as well.

The matter of who owns the designs is a major one; though I would be curious to know who in fact owns the designs as of this moment. The ship in its first two forms has appeared in multiple Star Trek games over the years, including Starfleet Battles, the Starfleet Command series, Starfleet Academy and its successor, Klingon Academy.

I think the Akula may belong to the same guy who owns the Federation class, Franz Joseph.
