I would like to see a passive spec tree that has an accountwide bonus. It doesn't require you to activate the tree, it's passive.
This spec tree though is only accessible to specific classes, and those skills are boosted by specific species.
I would love a personality tree honestly. similar to what we see in Gal Civ or in Mass Effect... your decisions generate you points
Diplomatic, Warrior, Trader... Just as an example.
Trader gets you better deals on the exchange/vendor, more speed... Diplomatic gets to avoid fights, more chat, more storyline., better defense points.. warrior gets the shooting on, but gives you more damage points. Completing the tree gets you an account wide bonus, so if you unlock all three, your toons get all three. But they're not that easy to unlock.
species have a greater chance at achieving those bonuses... humans and vulcans could get diplomatic easier...andorians and klingons warrior... just as an example. What happens is that they require less points to level up the spec tree. Another option would be that specific species get a greater bonus for specific traits. Andorians could, instead of 2.5 percent bonus damage applied, they'd get 5. For aiming, instead of 33 percent, they'd get 50.
However, the account wide unlocks would be a base bonus and ignore species traits.
could then further specialse that tree. Science: Doctor, Physicist. Tactician: Strategist, Grunt. Engineer: Builder, Demo Man.
That's for ground, Unlocking the account wide bonus for those gives a 5 percent bonus to your toon... for example, completing the doctor tree means your new toon that accesses the unlock gets a 5 percent healing bonus. Physicist would get a 5 percent science skill bonus for you if you're science, and for your science bridge officers. Strategist gives you team a 5 percent bonus to your kits, including to your boff abilities. Grunt gives you 5 percent damage. Builder: 5 percent bonus to shields and armour resist and hitpoints. Demo gives 5 percent more to destructive skills: grenades, fabrications and science damage modules. It doesn't just apply to you, but to your boffs as well.
Space: Scientist: Hacker, Crusher. Tactician: Master and Commander, pilot. Engineer: Battle Tank, Repairer. By following those trees, you get to boost the skills of those abilities that fall under those traits. Hacker: better stealth and skills that confuse/placate the enemy. Crusher: better skills that inflict exotic damage. M/C: better team buff skills such as attack pattern Alpha, beta. etc. Pilot: better turn rate, accuracy and defence. Battle tank: better resistance, more base power, better power recovery. Repairer: better heals.
Once your specialized toon completes the tree relevant to them, the account wide unlock improves the skills by a smaller percentage for your alternative toons.
Yeah, you'd need 6 toons, at the very least to unlock them all. Species just cuts down on the time required to get those trees completed.
so yeah, some species would have improved use of specific skills and classes. But all species can unlock those skills and make use of them anyways. This makes your choice at the beginning even more important. This passive spec tree would be open at the start. If you choose science, then you'd be asked "so, what do you want to be? A doctor or a scientist?" In which those skills then get the passive boost you want to focus on, and automatically improves them for you as you level up so you can't cross specialise on those specific traits. The spec tree, the modules and the ship, they're yours to play around with. It's just a passive tree to futher improve your toon. In the end, an Andorian would likely be able to half as much more damage on the ground than a human. say the human has 100 dps on the ground. The Andorian, using the exact same things, would have 150 because of better aiming and better chance of doing more damage. But the Andorian is more likely to start a shooting match than a human, so the human has to kill less people.
You're trying to turn STO into a hardcore RPG. So I'm against it. I'm a huge Mass Effect Fan but those systems you brought up just wouldn't work for STO without completely changing the game.
This would better belong in the Feedback section of the forums. As for the idea I already have enough alts, I don't want anymore. Thanks.
you'd only need 5 alts!
I have a regular toon, a romulan, a delta, a temporal, a discovery and a klingon. 6 toons, all you need
I actually have more than that.
I have 3 delta recruits (Klingon, Starfleet which is my main now, and Romulan), Temporal TOS Starfleet, Discovery Starfleet, Jem'hadar, Fed-Romulan, KDF Reman, one other Klingon, and the remaining of my characters are all Starfleet.
But MMO's technically are hardcore RPG's, singleplayer RPG's are generally easier than MMO's which require you to play for months as opposed to a week or a few days.
It doesnt require any reworking of the game... actually as accolades do this to a degree. Do you not play the game?
The bonus is pretty low and only min maxes would go all out for this... or those with ocd
This point is pretty moot as the Personal Endeavours will be adding even more power-creep to this game that's just not needed. And no, I don't think Account-wide stat boosts are a good thing. We have too much power-creep as it is. There is no point in adding even more.
Each class already has class specific bonuses as well....although they are pretty much pointless with all this power creep around.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

A passive spec tree you don't have to make active... is just more power creep in general. The point of the spec trees is to give us a bit more customization in how our characters play. Throwing in a passive you don't even have to make active is just power creep for the sake of power creep, because its ALWAYS on. Its not like switching from Intel/Pilot to Command/Commando. It would basically be every combination of primary/secondary and passive slapped on top of it.
While I think we're about due for a new spec tree... an always on passive is not the way to go. Having the primary/secondary means you have to choose which ones fit your playstyle or build. An always on passive takes that away, and it might not even fit your build whatsoever.
not sure how it could be incorporated, but i would like to see a reputation stat. if you destroy the breen your eputatiopn goes up with the defera, that sort of thing, and as you TRIBBLE off the breen they get tougher to fight. maybe even opening new planets/bases to you as you gain reputation.
