A JJ expansion could be interesting but IMO there's not enough source material to go on. Nowhere near enough. Plus the licensing issue that others have pointed out.
Besides, we already have the only good thing that ever came from the JJ films. The Vengeance.
That didn't stop Cryptic from creating a mission set in the Kelvin Universe. The only source material used seemed to be a character that never had much screen time and the ship.
But it apparently stopped them from doing anything more than said mission.
