"Night of the comet" change? Broken?

I use to grind this mission years ago and the last part where you have to destroy the comet and "disable" the klingon ships now requires you to destroy the "Quv" to finish it even though the voice actors say not to?

I, also, noticed this. But, yes, must be destroyed...for whatever reason.
