Lost Epic equipment!

meimeitoomeimeitoo Member Posts: 12,594 Arc User
Ok, I made a dreadful mistake: I discharged my Krenim ship to make room for my new T6 Vanguard. Thinking it would work like Drydock, I expected my gear to go back to inventory. It didn't. :( (I should have known, of course, but it's been a great while since I actually discharged a ship).

So, I figured I make a screenshot of the equipment I had on it, on Tribble, to show to support (and hopefully get my stuff back); but when it rains, it pours, and I get the following error when trying to connect to Tribble:

"Unable to start game client; The operation identifier is invalid."

They said, on channel, I need to do this within the next 48 hours. So, what can I do here?!

ask for an account rollback...of course, you'll lose every bit of progress between now and the last 'snapshot' the game took of your account data - which could be anywhere from a few hours to an entire week, since i have no clue how often the server takes those snapshots

Okay, apparently Tribble needs to run in 32-bit client. This is the stuff I lost:

If its not to late trade it to a 2nd account. Ask for a roll back then swap back. Accounts are free to setup after all.

    @meimeitoo

Maybe not. Type /lootcancel in a chat window and check the overflow bag. The equipment should be there.
This is a long shot, but you can also check if the equipment has been moved to the visual slots.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I though you lost like one item. Holy jeebus. Yeah you are gonna need a screen cap of each of the items if you want them to restore each item manually instead of a rollback. Otherwise, you may wanna try what soph suggested if you haven't unpacked the ship yet...it's actually a pretty good idea. You can also use a trusted friend or fleetmate if you don't want to make a second account. Although if the rollback isn't too far back, you should have your money back too...so you could technically just buy a new one again as well...assuming you didn't make a rater large sum of EC recently.

In an extraordinary stroke of luck, turns out I had flown a Polaron build on the bug ship since, so the loss is reduced to having lost an Epic Dyson Engine + Warpcore; plus the science 'exploders', and the Epic +75 PrtG console. Good riddance to the exploders anyway, and too bad about the PrtG console. The Dyson Engine + Warpcore I am most sad about, as I will need to get those back for my protonic build I was just about to re-engineer (and the Dyson ship I used with the 4-piece Dyson set), still hoping for them to release a T6 version of the ship one day. Oh, and I lost the constriction anchor -- which, last time I checked, was dirt-cheap.

I had already opened my Vanguard (to console myself a bit, wanting to play with the new ship). So, I think I'm just going to count my luck, realizing this could have been much, much worse, and just re-make a new Dyson Engine + Warpcore, and not contact support about it. Knowing how they absolutely don't read what you're saying, I will tell them not to do a character reroll, and they'll wind up doing it anyway. :)

In any case, it would make sense to implement the "discharge ship" function and the "drydock ship" function in the same way...

If by that you mean they should both work like the drydock ship way...yes I agree...100%.

O drat, just noticed you said discharged. That lost equipment has gotta hurt. Looking at the tribble layout it was an interesting build. Might grab that temporal disruption device from my inventory again.

I was just thinking about this happening and double-checking it wouldn't happen when I discharged a ship from two toons yesterday.

It would be helpful if they gave us an option that prevented us from deleting ships that still have gear attached to them. Even if that means that you have to delete the default white quality gear (which could just not be given to use anymore as well if they don't allow for upgrading it, now that I'm thinking about it) manually yourself before being able to delete a ship, I would still use such an settings option.

Anyway, there have been many people on here who claimed to have gotten back their items after contacting support. Trying to contact them won't hurt, I guess.

I wonder if turning protections on on the equipment would keep it from being deleted when a ship is discharged?

In the case of dry-docking, that is true I believe.

It has always been the case that you lose any and all equipment from a ship if you discharge it though. Same with Boffs.

Because the claim & discharge of ships for admiralty cards isn't annoying enough already, it should dump loads of useless white equipment in our inventory, too? o:)

Good to know that at least you didn't lose everything! I'm very careful when discharging ships for the same reason.

That would be an unfortunate side effect. I'd prefer to not have to deal with that. Of course, I'd love to have a way to just claim the cards without having to commission and dismiss. That issue aside, perhaps make sure anything above Common/White dump to the Inventory. Even if one remembers to take off all active equipment, one could still unintentionally lose equipment in the Visual slots if they're forgotten about.

Yes, whites being discarded and anything above white going into inventory would be ideal for both discharge and dry dock.

If someone ever accidentally loses a white mark II torpedo by dry-docking a tier 2 ship they can always grind for a few days to scrape together the credits to buy a new one from a vendor ;)

Nevertheless, only Dry Dock dumps gear into your inventory, at least on PC. On PC, Discharge discards any gear left on the ship.

I've tested this many times, including last month when claiming 10+ C-Store and event ships for their admiralty cards.

Someone tried this after the protection system was introduced, and it did not prevent the deletion of the those items when the ship was discharged. I've not heard of them changing that, so probably still gets deleted.

Yeah, dumping most things above white to inventory and deleting the commons would be pretty nice, though I wouldn't usually want the Universal console the ship came with either if I leave it on the ship. Dumping anything higher than common to inventory might become an issue with Jem'Hadar faction, as, from my understanding, their ships come with higher than common gear by default (as they start at level 60).
  • baddmoonrizinbaddmoonrizin Member Posts: 10,914 Community Moderator
Well, then, it sounds like the best solution would be to make protection work for equipment equipped to a ship, so that dismissing the ship keeps the protected equipment and discards the rest.

Also be sure to check the visuals tab before discharging as those items also get deleted. Pretty sure I've lost some shields forgetting to check that hidden little tab at some point.

Well that went from catastrophic to acceptable losses but it still stinks. Glad thinks turned out to not be as bad as they were originally.

Ah that's too bad mang, was hoping they'd be able to help you. They might have restored your ship and all it's gear. Like I said when you did it, support restored a character of mine with an inventory full to the brim of epic coals and other ship gear I forgot about when I deleted her, they got it back to me within the day. They were able to because I realised what I'd done instantly, exited the game and emailed support right then and there. They questioned me about using the slot I had her in and if I had made any other toon with the same name, I said nope, and simple as that they fixed it. It wasn't even an account rollback because everything on my other toons was just as I had left them.

I think you furthered your mistake by continuing to play, trying to get onto tribble (I'm sure they can read your account info in their database and don't really need a screenie) and especially using the ship slot you vacated, they told me stuff gets overwritten when that happens. Probably should have stopped and got actual help immediately rather than taking it to chat and the forums etc.
