Finding Defaulting to Autofire Beyond Annoying

I'm sure it's fine for many, but there needs to be a way to cancel this new behavior. (Did anyone request this?) None of the new options is reverting to the prior behavior for me. First time in years I actually logged out in a soured mood. Not a good thing.

Should have a spot in the options menu to disable it.

Right click ship weapons in space map to enable or disable auto fire.

Doesn't seem to work for the Tzenkethi ship in the new mission. Even with autofire off in the options menu, it never lets me turn it off on that ship.

I can understand why, but i kinda like to pick my target, approach to weapons range and let rip. With this the second i target it fires. Can we have a button for weapons free.

It's a great change. Together with powers no longer appearing unrequested on the tray, this makes switching ships much more convenient. Now they just need to switch the default power level from balanced to weapons for cruisers and escorts and to aux for science vessels, and nothing can go wrong anymore.

There are settings for that, but don't ask me where. There are different behaviors settable for autofire. Stuff like "Cancel on Target Change" or something like that.

Options - Controls - last entry defines the auto fire behavior. The first line in the menu lets you select ground or space.

Changing the setting doesn't stop every weapon from being reset to autofire on the next map change on my character.

    It's a great change.

It's only a great change if that's the way you'd set it up for yourself. If it's not, and you're thwarted from doing so, not so much.

In my case it resets to all weapons autofire on the next map change.

i haven't noticed, i prefer to autofire during battles anyway. i don't even know why that was taken out years ago and put back in years later. none the less it allows me to focus on using powers, skills and moving the ship around.

I read a lot of complaints about that, but to clarify: "Autofire" does not mean you automatically fire at enemies without giving the order. If that happens to you you have something else going on, I play with autofire on all energy weapons and non-special torpedoes since 2011 and that never happened to me.

It only happens to me on the new FE, everything autofires as soon as something comes within weapons range. But if I'm in my own ship with everything on autofire, it still only fires when I target something.

I have everything on autofire and only turn off torpedoes so I can target aceton assimilators if I'm fighting Gorn.
Now a LTS and loving it.

I have observed that it seems to require you hitting space to commence firing on a target. Torps only fire if shields are down or you fire them.

Yea. I'm the same. I set my energy weapons on auto, but leave torps on manual.

And I did notice that in the FE its literally fire as soon as you target. Also you can't rearrange the power tray in the FE.

Yeah we get no options on that ship at all, cannot even move skills on the tray. But I suspect that is WAI.

True, i always get the shield to equalize on button 2, but the FE don't let me put it.. its of, not needed, but anyway...

Personally, I find it a nuisance to suddenly have to manually turn off something I've never used in five years playing and never wanted to use. Not helping is that I strongly suspect that change broke something; when I was on earlier, only my aft weapons fired at all when using the "fire all phasers" key. Forward weapons had to be triggered individually from the weapon tray.

Not especially amused at something being broken by an utterly unnecessary change.
