Can't say for certain, however since there is nothing on the calendar, it doesn't sound like there will be any event this year. I would guess that the ViL expansion has their full attention.
You never know though.
May be this. But First Contact Day is more important than Valentine's Day. And before anyone says differently because of the wife -- or should say the master -- unless they game too, they'd rather you not be playing a game at that time and don't care about the week before that as much. lol
That makes today the most likely day for an announcement by precedent, though Cryptic is in no way obligated to follow that. I'd give it another week before wondering if there's something amiss.
PS. the calendar never depicts major updates and events prior to their announcement. I would not expect First Contact day to be listed.

So last year they announced it on Monday morning and it went live that Thursday ending on April 6th. So if it's like last year, then announcement would have been this morning. But will wait and see if anything is said today.
This year would be strange scheduling it, since the 5th is a Thursday, and that's typically patch day, when events start and end. If they were to do it at all, I would expect it to start on Thursday, with the patch, rather than end on Thursday.
I honestly hope to see the new queue again, even without new rewards, but the actual day falling on a Thursday makes it tricky. I'll be a little bit sad if we don't see it.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
That's almost certainly the pre-patch for Season 14.5. We'll have to wait for the announcement of the return of the Infinity Lockbox to be sure, but it would point to a launch date of April 3rd. I suppose they could start the First Contact Day event with that launch and have it run all of the actual First Contact Day.

Most times they announce things in STO a few days before it comes out. The Calendar is cronically incorrect and has been for a very long time.
While it's true that they announce most calendar events within a day or two of their start here on the forums, the whole thing about the calendar being chronically wrong is more than a bit overblown. There are a lot of last-minute additions, but the number of times that something that was actually put on the calendar that eventually changed or didn't happen have been very few since the change from Hourly to Weekend Events. People make a lot of hay about 4 or 5 times in over 4 years.

Just got a 6.3GB patch... a possible deco for the Fleet Colony? Possible major spike in dillithium prices for Contact day? For Contact Day it would be total surprise if it is a re-enactment in the mirror universe but I would bet on DS9 related theme leading up to the June release.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

Because as we know, the STO in-game calendar is 100% correct at all times, and is kept up to date by the hour.

What's "strange" about that? That seems perfectly convenient and there's a hole in an otherwise jam-packed calendar right there for it. Inconvenient would be if it was on Wednesday!
What's strange about it is that the event is a week long, and those usually begin on Thursdays, and in the case of a week-long one, also would end on a Thursday. That would mean that it would only run for about half of the actual First Contact Day, at least in the U.S. Starting it that day would at least be reasonable, since the U.S. and Western Europe would actually be able to play the event on the day that it was commemorating. Ending it on that day would mean that most people in either place wouldn't be able to play it on actual First Contact Day.
Wednesday, or any other day of the week would be far more convenient, since those aren't typically patch days, and it could be active for the whole day all around the globe. First Contact Day was on a Wednesday last year, the last full day of the event, and that worked out just fine.

It's been saying 6.4 gigs so I'm really hoping its another rehash of last years april fools. That much of a download would be seriously taking it too far. The audio actually arrived late as I recall so maybe this year they'll try to not be the fool and time it better.
Personally I'm not expecting 14.5 to land until last half of april at the earliest, maybe early to mid may so they keep the interest building rather than going in early with ingame stuff and relying purely on blogs that a lot of folk might not see.
So no First Contact Day event on calendar through April. So not having one this year?
Just because it's not on the calendar doesn't meant nothing is happening, and just because it's on the calendar in the future, it doesn't mean it will. The calendar is not the be all and end all. Check the news feed!

Well that and all the "ads" for it so far say Summer 2018, and it is hardly Summer, still Spring.

Last year the announcement blog came on March 27th.

Or if it's anything to do with First Contact day. ^_^

I doubt an event would cause a 3 gig download. I got no such download anyhow.
Most likely Season 14.5. It was about 6 gigs for me.
