Oh I could see them helping to design an escort, as an escort is not built for specially war but can be used for defense as well. Also prior to their age of awakening Vulcans were even more war-like an brutal than humans were. Also it might not be specially Vulcan the government, but Vulcans seeking a reformation of the two people. Hell in the show there have been Vulcan gun smugglers, so seeing them help build an escort to aid thier cousins to defend themselves is not that out of hand.

If it's a Kumari T6, don't you guys feel cheated to pay up extra for the T6 version? I mean isn't it basically the same T5 ship perhaps with some more hull, intel and/or pilot seat and just rename it T6?

I still would not spend any money in redone ships tagged T6 from T5. It would be great to get newer designs and actually see Devs do some real work in upcoming packs. Just like Apple and its phones trying to get more money from consumers just by re branding new versions of in essence the same phone.

when was there a 50% zen store sale? I only recall 50% off expansion packs if using cash... real world money.

It is and it kinda isn't.

A as you've pointed out a "T6 refit" has the + hull & shields and spec seats but it also has +1 additional boff slot (in most cases a lt.cmdr which is a big deal), +1 console slot, a ship trait, a new console that may or may not be part of a set with the T5's and a completely new ship model which can more often than not be kitbashed with the older models. Especially the last point is a pretty common reason why people buy ships nowadays.

Not gonna lie, I got the Hestia because I really love it's looks and because they remade the Prometheus from ground up which also looks really great since then. Stats were a secondary thing in that case. Similar case with the T6 flagship bundle though that one also has the stats to back it up and I didn't already have any of the T5s except 1 of the ody variants. So that was only 1 out of 9 that I kinda bought twice. Also smart patient people wait and make use of sales. ;)

I get where you're coming from, it's a valid arguement and it really isn't such a nice thing as cryptic wants to make us believe. But it does have it's upsides too and if you're okay with the admittedly high price tag (even on sales) you can get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

You'll be waiting a long time then 'cuz there has never been a 50% "C-Store" sale. The Arc Store is a different matter though, but it does not take Zen, you need to use your credit card for those sales.

Hmmm, i really thought they had one around the same time they had it in NWO?
Following sales were set to 40% in NWO...

Anyway, so the best C-store sale we get in STO is only 30% then?
And btw. what about those LTA's, i'm pretty sure they were on sale for 50% at some point... or am i wrong there too?
I do believe in killing the messenger...
    Want to know why?
    Because it sends a message!

LTA is the life time membership? it is $100 off... so 33% off but it is also cash only. can't buy with zen.

No, because I don't own the T5 set so they will be new ships to me. I've been tempted to get the T5 set for years now but always picked more T6 ships instead.

It's not as copy/paste as you make it out to be though. T6 ships get their own skin (which nullifies your statement about newer designs), a ship trait, extra boff power, higher shields, (usually) a unique console, and in most cases they've done a complete revamp to the pre-existing canon skin (if there is one) and freely applied it to the lower tier version. Not to mention the extra hull and specialization seating that you mentioned.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

If the ship pack for this year is T6 Kumari's and if the one for next year is T6 Dyson Destroyers, then perhaps they will make something original for the 10th anniversary.

    Would be really cool.
    1 x 4/2 laylout, cmdr sci seat
    1 x 3/3 laylout, cmdr eng seat
    1 x 4/3 layout, cmdr eng tac
and most importantly decent frigate pets.

That also. Even after all their attempts of fixing stuff it's still pretty messy. Rather than fumbling around again with this wreck of system they'd need to do a new thing from scratch. But they probably got neither the time nor the money for that.

    We need more freighters!

Ok, rant aside, I think I kind of understand (part of) starcruiser's angst. There is a tremendous difference between a new skin, and an entirely new design. New skin is a new coat of paint, different window configurations, and maybe a cupholder. Maybe. New designs would incorporate new nacelles and or nacelle placements, new saucers/hulls, etc. New skin, think the Temporal Ambassador mission. The (Federation) ship you get as a reward is basically a reskin of the Enterprise. A new design would be the difference between the Enterprise (any) and the Defiant.

Hopefully that makes some sort of sense. I haven't had coffee yet, and I usually don't post before coffee...

Well, when it comes to pack, I would like to see a pack that mixes different ship types and different specialization abilities.

Say, for example the "Deep Space Carrier Group Pack"

Contains a Command Specialization Carrier, a Pilot Raider and an Intel Scout Vessel.
The idea is that these 3 ships were designed to work together.

Maybe even going so far that the Pilot Raider and the Intel Scout Vessel are actually also doing double duty as "carrier pet" for the Carrier. I have no idea if they could pull it off, but maybe even going so far that the pilot and scout vessels would actually be visible part of the Carrier outer hull and detach if the appropriate hangar bay is used.

The Command Carrier would be designed to serve as command vessel to venture deep into uncharted territory or behind enemy lines From there, it would send probes and shuttle craft to explore the area, and send dedicated scout vessels to perform deeper scans, or alternatively send raiders to destroy enemy targets (depending on specific mission. Or faction.)

I don't think they'll ever do something like this for a mega pack. Mega packs (which are 3-ship faction packs tied up in a huge discount bundle) are designed to give the players options for customizing their ships. Look at the T5 flagships or the T6 flag ships. They can use up to 6 different ship parts if you own them.
Whatever pack is coming, let them hurry and release the stats already.

My Zen is ready. (For one ship, I'm not interested in buying a pack with 3 of the same, let alone 9 ships.)

You may consider it 3 of the same ship, but have you stopped to realize what you lose out for not getting said ships?

    1. Space Barbie: Lets say the ships come out and you like the look of one, but hate the stats of the one you actually plan to get. If you get 1 ship, you lose out on the ability to customize the ship to how you want it.
    2. Traits: Every 3 pack of ships comes with unique traits that you can get if you buy a 3 pack. Only buying one limits you to using one trait. What if the other 2 are good?
    3. Consoles: Now I know this may not be for everyone, but usually with 3 pack ships, they usually have a console set which ties into the event ship's console. Only getting 1 ship, you only get at most 2 out of the 4 abilities.
    4. Breaking packs: The discount packs exist for a reason. If somewhere down the road you want the other 2 ships and you broke the pack, you essentially pay 9000 zen for the ships separately, whereas you would be paying 6000 zen the price of 2 with an extra one added in.

In the end, if you don't care about any of these things, by all means buy the ship you want.

How about a carrier mega-pack? Wouldn't that be nice?

It would, but I would hope (I think many carrier users would also) that they would look into revamping how carriers an hanger/separation-pets work, and we interact with the.

both these are a mega nice thing to have, esp as they have never done a 9 pack carrier ship, that would be awesome dreadnought carriers wud be nice :)

    Would be really cool.
    1 x 4/2 laylout, cmdr sci seat
    1 x 3/3 laylout, cmdr eng seat
    1 x 4/3 layout, cmdr eng tac
and most importantly decent frigate pets.

id prefer a cmdr tac lt.com eng, lt com uni wud be nice :)

That also. Even after all their attempts of fixing stuff it's still pretty messy. Rather than fumbling around again with this wreck of system they'd need to do a new thing from scratch. But they probably got neither the time nor the money for that.

I dont get how people keep saying they dont have the money for things, either the game really aint doing that well, or the costs are so high, both i dont believe.....i think they cud do it if they wanted to, all we can hope for is that they do eventually give us Carrier lovers so time, i mean look at all the revamps they have been doing defo time to look at carriers again :)

    It's worse when it's a 9-pack. 3-packs are basically 3 for the price of 2, but 9-packs are 9 for the price of 4.

If it's a Kumari T6, don't you guys feel cheated to pay up extra for the T6 version? I mean isn't it basically the same T5 ship perhaps with some more hull, intel and/or pilot seat and just rename it T6?
A Tier 6 Update of a lower tier ship is generally better than a completely new Tier 6 ship - because you get more customization options that way. A new Tier 6 ship will have exactly the one skin it comes with usually. An updated ship has a new skin, plus all the old ones, giving you a lot more flexibility in kitbashing the ship to make it yours.

I own the Discovery, and while I like it gameplay-wise, the only customization options I have are the different materials and patterns, which are marginal.
I also own the T6 Constitution. It has basically 5 different skins available to it. It has the saucer, neck, pylon, hull and nacelles as options, which means I basically have about 5^5 = 3.125 shape options. Admittedly, I think only the Connie, Refit and Exeter are really interesting options, so it's effectively only 243 options for me, but still ,that is plenty. Chances are that if I meet another Connie Captain, our ships will not look the same.

I'm aware of all those things. I used to own multiple Vesta's and Kumari's but I never used more than one of the variants. I don't even have room for more ship traits and I never use ship-specific consoles as they're usually not worth it imo.

Is there a limit on the amount of ship traits you can own? I don't mean "use at the same time", but own?

As for the consoles: in my experience I'd agree, not worth it in terms of "making an effective ship". Worth it IMO though in making ships more unique than "2 more inertia and 500 less hull, and the ensign tac is now universal" and just trying out what you can do with it.

Still, the three-packs for one faction would probably be only one ship for me instead. Only the additional cross faction discount makes it somewhat viable to get the whole 9 pack.
