'Bridge view'

A few ships now are too big for the camera angle to play effectively so why not have a tactical bridge view? the only thing it would actually do is to hide your avatar and nothing else would change. maybe have some sort of indecator as to your facing would be good though and a border, a viewscreen border.
Thoughts?

That sounds like it should be achievable. I believe one of the devs mentioned there was some modifiable code they used to get a 1st person view from a fighter.

I think the only issue will be that it'll be hard to select targets and you'll have terrible awareness of your surroundings.

Which could be considered a roundabout way of saying "let us command from the Bridge". A perspective change from third person to essentially first person.

"The monitor overlay idea has been raised a number of times before, but imo it would just feel chintzy. We couldn't do a full 3d bridge overlay, it would just be a texture. Basically cutting a viewscreen out of cardboard and pasting it onto your monitor. I don't think anyone would be satisfied by that."
