    First, check your game directory, it usually in c:\program files x86\star trek online_en.

    If you sort by date modified with newest at the top look to see if there are any .log files (such as PACKET_2017-08-06_01-00-00.log). You can open those with pretty much any text editor to see what information it contains, that information is can be extremely helpful when trying to figure out why the game is crashing.

    At the same time, with or without STO creating a .log, Windows does. Using the event viewer in Windows will (usually) tell you what went wrong, although it might take a lot of google searching to hopefully find a solution. BTW, MSoft support is almost never helpful but there are a lot of good people that monitor the MSoft support forums that are extremely helpful.

    As an example, the .log file I pasted the name of contained this tidbit of info "redirecting:linkQueueRemove:sock==INVALID_SOCKET:read failed(997:Unknown socket error)"

    Which was no help at even after a lot of Google searching but it did tell me it was a network communication problem.

    However, Windows event viewer logged this at the exact same time
    "The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}
    and APPID
    {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}
    to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool"

    Another round of Google searching led me to how to modify my registry to give me the security permissions to actually be able to use the component services tool to actually make the changes the event said needed to be made.

    Crossing my fingers, I have not had the game crash due to a network com error since.

    Unfortunately the igfx error which still causes crashes if I turn my graphics up beyond low has defied all attempts at correcting.

    Sorry, the key point is that, at least in Windows, there is almost always a log somewhere that will tell you why something crashed. Without something more to go on than the fact that your game keeps crashing, helping you is almost impossible.
    LTS and loving it.
