Came aboard during the tail end of Open Beta. Was there for launch for a few months then left for about 2 years, came back in 2012. Been mostly here since but with some breaks here and there.
This game has expanded and changed so much. If you weren't aboard the time, I really wish you guys were around to have seen how things were at launch compared to now. It was a "tumultuous" time to say the least on the state of the game. It was pretty bleak and a mess, I really thought this game would die in the first year.
I played one weekend during closed beta to see if the game was running on my old computer. I started playing actively with the head start in January 2010.
IIRC november-december 2010, used to play borg STF's waiting in GO sector block for LFG. i long remember and miss the old unbroken STF's. When F2P was about to come i took time away from the game because i didn't think F2P was going to be good, but there were a few things i missed, even the Odyssey. I can no longer hold back that it would of been nice to get the odyssey when it was free.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Yeah I didn't think to add an option for that until after it was too late. Also, I think I should have said "Since or after AoY" instead of just "After AoY" as the last option.
This has nothing to do with your post, but I LOVE your signature pic. Just awesome.
got the game after it went FTP.
had it for about a month free before i decided i loved it enough to go lifetime sub.
though i do admit i can take breaks from the game for a few weeks or a month.

Since open beta with a lifetime sub and some fairly long spells away from the game.
Stopped playing for a while during the subscription era and returned when it went f2p
Stopped again for a while and came back with LoR, stuck it out until delta grinding and having missed the glory days of patrol xp couldnt face getting more than one to 60 let alone the 50+ extra levels for specialisations.
Dipped back for a bit with delta recruitment and have 1 of each faction. Skipped the tempura agent promo and have only recently really done the AoY tutorial.
Playing regularly at the moment although event burnout risk is high so mostly its log on, doff stuff and log off for most of my 60's. Exception being taking a few more minutes on one character for the meagre endeavour awards.

I was stumbling around the internet when I found the picture. My facial expressions went from a Janeway/Chakotay look to a fourth-from-left Neelix.
After launch but before free to play, i was playing quite actively right up until season 13 and the new UI dropped. Been forced to cut down my playtime since then as half the stf's i used to queue up for no longer populate.
Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.
This is a fascinating response - while unscientific it's interesting to note the sheer number of Pre-LoR players responding - which suggests that (at least in terms of the STO forum) the game is doing a good job of retaining long-term players.
Of course, there is an alternative that it's mainly old hands who use the forum rather than, say, Reddit. But interesting nonetheless.

Could be a combination of both. But it is indeed interesting.
I miss the old Atari days. The cool Stoked podcast. Just really miss how you needed to have a Tac, Science and an engineer in a group to be successful.

there are several things i miss from the Atari days. Most notably the shared mailbox between the forum and in-game mail. there was also a neat feature on the website that made pictures of your characters, but the Gateway was better for that.

remember when you could start the STF without a group? I forget which one it was but i pop into the system, and Evil Sulu two shots me about a dozen times before i figured out it was an STF
