    I'd love it if they could license the music from the shows and movies to use in the game.

    While I also recognized that this was just kidding, I found it in poor taste, personally. And while that is my personal opinion, notice that I didn't moderate it, because I don't believe that it breaks any forum rules.

    Kids play sto and everyone has a duty to help keep the game clean.

    I also agree with this statement, whether it's meant in earnest or not. I'm striving to keep the forum at least at a PG-13 level.

    Kids play sto and everyone has a duty to help keep the game clean.

    The kids know more than you give credit for, Druky.

    And while this may also be true, that doesn't mean that it needs necessarily to be condoned or contributed to.

    All of this really just to say, I see an argument brewing here, and I want to dissuade y'all from going any further with it. Thanks. :)

    A few things I'd like in *my* perfect world (pun unavoidable) fantasy STO:

    Progressive Promotions: No more instant-Captain
    Kelvin Timeline has quite a number of things which I don't like... from the absence of Kirk's brother to the Spock-Uhura relationship to the Enterprise being three times too large and being built in the wrong decade and in the wrong city...

    Most of these I can overlook under the hand-wave of "Nero's incursion"...

    But Kirk going from (ungraduated) cadet to First Officer, to Captain in under 5 pages of script by fiat a la Pike TOTALLY destroyed my suspension of disbelief. Maybe it's because of my R/W military background... but this one thing alone, more than any other, made me hate The reboots. And STO does the exact same thing.

    So... my next (admittedly unpopular) STO fantasy is:
    * When your brand new Level 0-Cadet character completes his Tutorial training cruise, he is promoted to Ensign, and assigned to the U.S.S. Miranda-class-T1-starter-ship as an <insert rank & career appropriate position here>.
    * Upon reaching level 10 and promotion to Lt., he is then transferred to the U.S.S. Tier-2-ship-of-your-choice as a <insert career title here> Officer.
    * At Level 20/LtC, he is again transferred to the U.S.S. Tier-3-Ship as Chief of <Career>.
    * Level 30/Cmdr, he is transferred to the U.S.S. Tier-4-Ship as First Officer.
    * and finally, at Lv40/Capt, he gets his very own ship to command for the first time.

    Game play would be unaffected. You (the player) would still control the movement of the ship in space... your Character would still be leading all away teams. The only difference would be story-wise via dialogue: a more believable rank progression and your ship's Captain (up to level 39) would give you your missions instead of the various NPC contacts.

    At level 40, Everything continues as it currently is, with external contacts and mission-givers.

    Career Progression: Unique skill options based on character development
    Piggy-backing on the idea above, this could also expand on the career options--add a "focus" which provides an initial passive bonus to the default career traits depending on the focus chosen at creation (ensuring diversity of skills).

    As a possible example:
    Tactical Career: choose between Security focus or Flight Control focus
    * Ens: Security Guard / Helm Officer
    * Lt: Security Officer / Tactical Officer
    * LtC: Chief of Security /Chief Tactical Officer
    * Cmdr: First Officer
    * Capt+: Captain

    Engineering Career: choose between Engineering focus or Operations focus
    * Ens: Maintenance Engineer / Operations Technician
    * Lt: Engineering Officer / Operations Officer
    * LtC: Chief Engineer / Chief of Operations
    * Cmdr: First Officer
    * Capt+: Captain

    Science Career: choose between Research focus or Medical focus
    * Ens: Research Technician / Field Medic
    * Lt: Science Officer / Doctor
    * LtC: Chief Science Officer / Chief Medical Officer
    * Cmdr: First Officer
    * Capt+: Captain

    Romulan Star Empire
    Okay, this one is a little selfish because it goes along with my [RSE] Foundry series, but...
    * Fed-allied Romulans join the Republic
    * KDF-allied Romulans are Imperial loyalists

    I was never fond of the Alliance storyline. While it made it easy to mash endgame content, so Cryptic didn't need multiple missions for each faction late in the game... it just feels forced to me. Besides, I want my characters to have a nemesis. If a PC faction are enemies, I have a reason to PvP. I've got a story with conflict, sans the default "bad guy of the month" method that is currently being utilized.

    Separate Rank/Level/Title
    This is a very common request, so I won't elaborate too much. Simply put: I don't want all my characters to be promoted to Admiral.

    A few thoughts. First a correction, Young James drives past his brother waving. Yes I know he said Johnny the actor had issues with keeping character names over real ones. But that was his character's older brother.

    Not arguing Kirk's promotion. Your beef is one shared by many.

    But two things on the basic fed tutorial: This one is far better than its predecessor. And had the borg not come right then. You would have been escorted back to space dock and given normal assignments. It was the field promotion to Lt. and the borg threat that made Quinn give you the command while he was drunk.
    The previous version of the tutorial had a worse reason for your promotion. While you helped Khitomer the borg attacked your ship and targeted all of the officers leaving you as the only officer on board. . . Then drunken Quinn made it permanent.
    Now I always thought (as of this morning) that the previous tutorial's all the officers are killed could be made to make sense. If during the Borg arc they send a group of borg boarders back in time to assassinate you to prevent your stopping them now. But instead of preventing your rise actually began it.
    Nothing says something similar is not happening here. Either a borg assault timed to kill you and they attack the wrong ship this time. Or Quinn has been briefed by Temporal Investigations to just follow the script they hand him. X cadet is important but too many people have messed with the timeline for them to develop on their own. So giving them a boost.
    If this token bandaid is put on it I think the plot hole can be gotten past. After all they don't seem to bat an eye about future agents showing up and declaring what events must or must not happen. So why not this one?

    New fantasy: They swap the names of two currencies. Lobi becomes Gold Pressed Latinum, and GPL becomes Lobi. Just to get the themes back where they should be. If it is a database what you do is Change the name of Lobi to 'Latinum'. Then GPL to Lobi. Then update 'Latinum' to GPL with the appropriate icons. Lobi store is now the GPL store and you buy ships and gear for latinum. And buy trinkets for Lobi.

    1) More frequent addition of new missions, at least an average of one a month (3 missions released together every 3 months would also be acceptable).

    2) Expansions that are actually deserving of that designation, with at least 2-3 times the amount of mission content that was included in AoY.

    3) The ability to change the appearance and audio of space weapon firing effects so that they all match.

    4) The ability to upgrade any ship to T5U, including all T0-T4 ships.

    5) Incorporation of the traditional MMO Trinity system, or at least some encouragement for players to adhere to it, so that we can get away from the mindless DPS race group content has become.

    6) Complete and total rework of the reputation system to eliminate all timegates.

    As far as those pre-2014 Missions that were removed, one of my Characters has all the Romulan and Cardassian Arc Missions in the Mission Log to do when I get around to it. I did do 'Saturday's Child' on that Character after it was removed. You do not get the Hail when approaching the System in question, but when you enter the System you do get the Mission name splashed across the screen.

    The Mission proceeds normally but you do not get the ending rewards, so it comes down to nostalgia or just to do something different. I suppose if you just beam out at the end and you do not clear the Mission, you can keep it to do 'forever'.

    My STO fantasy is Cryptic re-hiring Gozer and ripping out the crappy Reputation system and connected queues and have him rework it all into something truly awesome!

    Uh.... not sure that Gozer would WANT to do that....

    Sorta like what George Carlin said about fanatics hiding behind the bible, the flag and children.
    And I'm not going to parent or watch over someone's kid.

    You still shouldn't be ERPing in a public channel. Bible, flag, and children be damned, it's a just plain uncivilized thing to do. If you want to stand on a table at Quark's and describe in detail how you maintenance your partner's plasma intake manifold, feel free, but do it in a private channel!

    Never said I do. I just got better things to do than whinge and cry about it. Not to mention, considering things I see IN GAME, that are in the same sorta category, such as an actual patrol mission where you get a Ferengi a sex slave program, and pole dancers, etc. ;) Plus, as I said, I'm not the Pat Robertson, or Senator Liberman type who would give a care.

    Hell, half you people would probably have a stroke, or at least a severe bowel disorder, if I were ever to show you a few episodes of Animaniacs. :D
