Any tips for defending Kuumaarke in Mirrors and Smoke?

I've tried and failed seven times now to earn the "Covered For You" accolade in the episode Mirrors and Smoke. Does anyone have any tips for defending Kuumaarke?

Engineer generators (shield and medical), or at least force field dome. Maybe plant a bunch of mines between her and the spawn points. Group disable powers like anesthetic and stun grenades, Sabotage if you have access to it, is handy to shut down groups for a short time. Basically, lots of engineer stuff :)

And don't forget to "pin" her with the targeting button so you can monitor her easily and throw heals if she's taking hits.

Yup..At least 1 (maybe 2) engineer(s) on the team with a medical generator and a Mortar. I also have a sci toon (either myself or a Boff) specifically for aoe exotic damage..Usually between Myself and the NPCs, Kuumaarke stays pretty safe (I normally play on advanced). [Hyperonic Radiation, Exothermic Induction Field, Sonic Disruption or Cryonic Pulse]

Abilities like the solar flare portal thing can attack the ones that spawn on the wall near her and in doing so will coax mortars to also start firing.

If you're an engineer captain a cover wall will also help from that side. Don't bother with trying that with boffs as it'd be way too much faffing about to get them to place it in the correct location.

The other groups just need to you run over and aggro as they can snipe her from a long way off if you don't.

There's a sci aoe freeze that shuts them down nicely as well.

Oddly enough I got this accoldade pop on ps4 after she dipped to below 50% on the third wave of wall jumpers. Was surprised to get it as the map zooming on console is all over the shop so harder to get the compass scale to match the maps and therefore make it useful.

I just used 1 eng with 2 x turrets and shield, plus 2 x science (nanite health monitor on one) and 2 x tac (boff and captain). My captain had the Winter chilly gear - grenade, mini-torp and cold damage buff. Those all slow enemies.

It isn't really about her health as much as it is about keeping the progress bar moving. The biggest threat to that is the Plasma Grenade from the one guy who comes with the spawn from the North side of the map. Sniper shots only delay her for a second or so, but the plasma cloud shuts her down for a long time.

health level doesn't matter; this is a TIMED accolade, not a 'keep X above Y HP' or 'keep X alive' accolade

the main thing to prevent is kuumaarke getting hit AT ALL, because that interrupts her and stops her doing her protomatter thingie, which wastes precious seconds - especially if she gets plasma grenaded

I'm not going to go play the mission just to get my orientation correct according to the map, so bear with me.

I run all my away teams with 1 Tac, 1 Sci and 2 Eng. Both engineers have turret and either photon grenade launcher or quantam mortar, plus either shield generator or medical generator. The Tac and Sci toons vary a lot but my Sci BoFFs are always set up for healing.

So, when standing at the "console" Kuumarrke is at, I'm going to call the closest wall "up" with all other directions based on facing that wall. To the left side, after aligning that console, I post one of my engineers out there pretty much right where the enemy spawns. Going "down", after aligning that console, I post my second engineer out where the enemy spawns in that area. Then, on the right side, after aligning that console, I post my Tac pretty much right where the enemy drop down off the wall on that side. (Note, you actually have to go up the incline yourself to be able to post your BoFF where they actually drop down, I have also had success just posting them as close as the interface allows me to without actually going up there myself). My Sci BoFF is left "free" to follow me around. A Second note, you don't have to position your BoFFs after aligning each console, I just find it more effective to do it that way as you have to walk to each location to post your BoFFs in the right place anyway, so might as well align the consoles as you go.

Last but not least, if I'm playing my engineer, I drop a mortar not far from Kuumaarke and drop a turret (and mines if I have em) pretty much right where the enemy drops off the wall next to her ("up"). I them have my engineers drop mortar/launcher, shield/Med generator and mines (if they have em) and then check on Kuumaarke to start the action. You want to wait to drop all the turrets mines, launchers etc until just before starting the action so they don't time out and disappear too soon.

Since for me, the first wave always comes off the "up" wall I face that way and start hitting "1" to fire immediately. From there just hit em with whatever quick and dirty damage combos you have, keep an eye on your mini map to see when and where each wave spawns and rush to each new spawn to assist whichever Boff you have at that location. All of my toons use long range weapons, mostly have Herald staffs, the rest have 116Bs or some other sniper rifle, so I never have to get too far away from Kuumaarke to assist in defeating each wave, and I am also always close to the one spawn point without a BoFF stationed there.

Exactly what type of BoFF to station at each location likely doesn't really matter. That is just the pattern I used the first time I tried to get the accolade and it worked so I just use it with all my toons. It hasn't failed me yet with 12 plus toons. Kuumaarke still takes a few hits, mostly from the snipers, but no enemy has ever survived long enough to toss a grenade at her and delay her long enough to miss getting the accolade.

Got to give credit where due, I only drop the shield/med generators due to @anodynes making the comment "Have an Eng BOff drop a Shield Generator, since NPCs seem to hate those with a passion, and also use Threatening Posture and you should be able to keep the Commanders' grenades off of her." in the Accolade List thread. I never would have thought of it. BTW, I don't know if NPCs also hate Med generators but my Eng BoFFs have one or the other so I have the ones with Med Gen go ahead and drop it just in case.

I think turrets and drones might help.

They won't. The key to success is cover shields, just box her in with covershields laid by you and your boffs and you're good to go.

Although my method has worked just fine for me so far, I think the next toon I get there with, I'm gonna try that, take an all engineer away team, box her in with cover shields and put mines and turrets at each of the enemy "spawn" points just for the heck of it..

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've now tried the mission 15 times and still have had no success, but I feel like I'm getting closer each time. If only that stupid dreadnought would die quicker...

One quick follow up question: how do you trigger your BOFFs abilities (mines, turrets, cover shields, etc.) when you want? At the moment, mine seem to be triggering their abilities whenever they feel like it, so I can't box Kuumaarke in.

All I know is on PC, so for me it's to click the icon for the ability near their names on the "team" list.

Beside their portrait you can right click the BOff powers you don't want a BOff to use and left click it to make them use it. Learning to get the placememt you want is tricky, so practice.

Left alone they do use their powers, sometimes inappropriately. This lead me to not use Cover Shield as my BOff was always dropping one between me and what I was shooting.
