I still would suggest that you invest 2500 lols into top level board and floater. Even if you're not going for the win, you'll get a better placement now and then and thus slowly make your money back while having more relaxed gameplay (especially with a floater the difference is staggering)
Yeah, not really. Even if you won every time, it would take 50 races to get back 2500 favors. If you don't have the free BTTF board, it's not worth buying an elite unless you're playing it all day or really hardcore about the placement accolades.

Getting a superior floater is worth it for better transportation in general, but not pure favor farming. Not since the horgan hunt has been marginalized.

Well, the board costs "only" 1500 and the difference between first and "also ran" is 60 lohlunat favors, so only 25 races. Which probably could happen, though it's doubtful you'd win them all, so point taken. Still, it'd also be more tags meaning more pets meaning more marks (which could become more dil). Of course, if you don't like the race or feel all around incapable of winning it except for the freak chance of only one opponent who gets DQ'd, I can see how you could skip it. I still think it's worth it.

With the 1000 for a floater you IMO can't go wrong though. While it's less likely to pay off - you'd need 5 toons all with an elite floater to get the whole 5 runs on a horga'hn hunt, 4 for 4, (I think you can manage 3 with the rental, so 200 less favors for 5000 investment - again 25 runs, but you'd need 5 active Risa toons for it), and odds of winning the biathlon are negligible if you don't have an elite board - the quality of life improvement on Risa is huge, you shave off a lot of time off everything you do, be it Flying High, Horga'hn or Artifact Hunt, or just getting from A to B. Also, unless they changed it on the rental, you can fly continuously instead of single boosts.

    At this point on Risa:

I have DQ so many times on that surf board race and the surf board part of the biathlon race.....I am thinking: it no longer has anything to do with me being out of practice. Probably, not going to bother running them for much longer....because practice isn't making it better.

The drop rate on Risian Eggs during the Horga'hn Hunt is atrocious. Zero eggs found over 4 characters running the hunt in a 15 min period....it is nothing to get excited about. Especially, noticeable, now that the Hunt does not circulate around that schedule as often.

BTW...do something about that schedule. It doesn't feel like a party going on Risa.
And running around hunting artifacts because one missed starts of races is no fun.

Very disappointed that competitive marks aren't included in the birds/monkeys trade in. This trumps everything for me.

    Very poor call.

My only request is to add DOFF missions that reward Lohlunat Favors. They don't have to reward much. During the Winter event, the DOFF missions are a nice supplemental addition to the rewards from the events. I could log in and start DOFF missions then do a few events and slowly acquire items from the Winter Store over the course of the event. Doing the same events over and over to get enough favors for all my characters is a little grindy. I would prefer an option to allow me to slowly get favors in addition to the events so I could relax and enjoy the festival and still get all the goodies for my alts.

And 125 Dilitium each. Good Doff Missions otherwise.

I like the event this year, as I have in past years. I don't find Winter Wonderland fun, at all, even remotely, not even if I squint. I save up my LTS stipend every year so I can just buy Winter Wonderland tokens and minimise the number of times I have to lower my gaming standards and accept slippy-slidey-ice-world-antics in a so-called 'modern game'.

On Risa, I do the activity the 25 times and love it, because JETPACK. And yes, I'm aware that it's still just essentially a slippy-slidey-ice-world-race in the sky, but that's the point: It's *in the sky*. It's a new twist on an old thing. It's fun, to me.

I haven't done the biathlon because the races are a joke (see most previous posts in this thread for more info) for anyone who doesn't have top notch internet, or doesn't worship at the chaotic altar of RNGesus. I am concerned with neither.

While I understand why Competitive Marks (mostly) aren't available as PvE/STF/queue rewards, I don't understand why they're available for Borg Red Alert, but NOT as a reward from the Ornithologist. This kind of reverse-logic frustrates me no end.

I don't know who changed the drop rates for the Eggs, but they need slapping. Just a light playful slap, so that they get the message. But they do need slapping and no mistake.

I'd like to end on some positive notes:

This event is getting better and better every year. I HATE the races, but I don't have to do them if I don't want to, because there is so much else to do! I collected some artifacts for Qwen for the first time this year, and I found it fun - a game of Hot and Cold with a jetpack. YES, THANK YOU. I WILL ACCEPT YOUR GIFT OF FUN.

Over the years I have given Cryptic a lot of lip about 'this and that and the other'. But I must say, making the Event reward ships per account was probably the best thing they ever did to allow people to just have fun during events.

I would also like to state that Risa is, in my opinion, the best Event in any MMO that I've ever played.

If there's higher praise, I can't imagine it.

I've had a lot of fun on Risa, when my inet behaves. It regularly d/cs, so I get my stuff in before that starts happening. I get my Flying High runs in early in the morning, do my birding/monkeying/RnD research. Then if it's about to go on, races/artifact/Horga'hn hunt. Since my goal is mostly collecting favors for a friend I'll then log out and wait till evening to log in when my inet is behaving for the most part and do another few runs of that stuff.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

I know why it's not there anymore, but I miss the night cycle anyway.

I would like to have some kind of "adventure" on Risa - a small mission type deal where you deal with locals and visitors. And at least some kind of scenario where you get the vague implication that you might find a romantic/flirtatious partner for your holidays. Something along the lines of Hoshi and Picards experiences on Risa, but closer to Hoshi's. ;) It shouldn't be any grand mission with a deep and complex plot, just something fun to do.
Trying to solve a lover's quarrel, helping someone locate a lost heirloom or friend, identifying a thief or conning a con-man (or being conned by one.) Heck, even helping some NPC prepare a festivity. Something that ties you a bit more to the place and the people.

It would be nice if swimming or diving was a thing, too.

The Dance Event could use some more interesting music. It would be nice if the NPCs visitors would actually also follow the dance instructor, it looks a bit dumb the way it is right now. The payout could be a bit better, but it's a great place to see all the creative aliens people make.

I am not a fan of the artifact hunt at all, the mechanic for it is terrible IMO.

I like the sand castle building.

I haven't had that issue, so either it's your laggy internet or....

Anyways, what exactly is it that is causing you to get a DQ? sliding out of corners?

Oh, yeah, the new Biathlon is a nice addition. A lot better than artifact hunt.

Wonder if we'll get a Winter Biathlon. Certainly would like to do some more things with ice skating.

An idea to steal from ice skating for the power boards: Some new jump animations so we can do some more fancy tricks.

Personally I love the festive events. The summer event has always been my favorite. I haven't been able to play much in a couple of years so I'm just coming back. Some things I noticed. The day/night cycle I really miss. Nothing better then running the flying high at night. Also the first year it seemed to run longer, maybe that's just in my head because it started later but it should run longer as in mid August. It really made me feel that its a "Summer Event". With it ending in Mid July it feels kinda of short changed. It encourages people to play and should run from mid June to mid August. Besides that I enjoy the event very much and appreciate Cryptic for providing us a nice diversion from day to day play.

The artifact scanner is still a right ( F-Bomb ) pain.........ooooh.......it's easier to find Sulu while wearing a blindfold then it is to use this thing.

Fireworks in the land of the never setting suns is just.............no words.....

The Male Dance Instructor. No where can I escape his sleazy " Time to get on the dance flooooor!! " ( God, he's bloody annoying! ) other then escaping into another instance. Only to log back in to the game later to have him taunting me again......he must hate dragons.

Better control on the boards, ever try to turn at the last part of the biathlon race only to shoot out of the lane and get DQ? Why is there a speed boost there anyways? It's as logical as Gordon Ramsey eating at McDonald's.

And someone keeps stealing my sandcastles.
When I go back after a while, their been nicked. I think it's the trees. They stand awfully close to where it was...the ocean looks guilty too.
I asked the monkeys, they just shrugged then flung poo at me. Clearly they are as puzzled as me.....a mystery indeed if these intelligent creatures who wear one of the 50,000 Sherlock Holmes hats I gave them to look cuter don't know either.....then we are all doomed.

Crashy ole boy? it not the trees its me , nat , hawku and the rest here on risian isle , yup were hiding in the trees the minute you leave we kick over your sand castles lol

Saw a epic "W-T-F?" glitch on Risa last night. Started the Biathlon when someone streaked in front of all of us running on the water. Yes, they out ran the hoverboards and beat us all to the flyer part.
Apparently his hoverboard didn't summon properly so his movement animation defaulted to running. Wish I could have recorded it, the blurr on him made him look like the Flash

For those who are still struggling with the artifact hunt, I made a video demonstrating how I do it.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_3PwqLjYeQ
As you can see it's not a long video. In part because, well, I didn't memorize the map of artifact locations on the wiki, I created it. The second spot I scan is chosen because I knew it's an artifact location. the third spot... it's just a patch of flat ground. I wasn't sure if the object was west or north of that location. Flat ground works best when scanning.

In case you're not sure where to find the map:

I like the new costume additions. Longer female surf shorts would be nice next year.

I love the concept of the biathlon but haven't loved the execution. I have a consistent issue with being able to pass the second gate without triggering it, meaning I either get disqualified at the floater ramp or (if I notice it didn't trigger) I have to turn around, which can take long enough for the landing pad to vanish as I'm approaching.

This year I, like others, am having consistent issues with the powerboard slipping off the track and getting dq'd. This makes me sad, as I love the powerboard racing but it's become frustrating. Not sure what's changed under the hood since previous years, but I really don't think it's me anymore. (At first, I just assumed I was rusty.)

    I miss the nighttime.

All this jabbing been said, I still love the events overall and would like to thank the team for their hard work every year getting these up and adding new ideas every year. Thank you.

I dunno, I've noticed a few times where I've slid sideways farther than expected when boarding, but it only happens at high speed, so it might just be that. But the transition.... it makes no sense to force people to ride the board all the way to that wooden ramp or get DQ... That is the biggest annoyance. The easiest way I've found is to deactivate the board before you get to the ramp, then activate the floater as soon as you've cleared it.

That's not the biggest annoyance. The biggest annoyance is that thanks to lag, you can actually ride your board all the way to the ramp, activate floater in midair AFTER jumping the ramp and STILL get randomly DQed from time to time.

Indeed. Overall I'm getting quite a lot of lag spikes during the Biathlon. A number of times, I even rubberbanded through one of the gates and had to turn back and search for where the last one registered. At least the beeps tell you when you when you're "registered" past a gate.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!
  • markhawkmanmarkhawkman Member Posts: 35,236 Arc User
yeah, I always listen for the beeps when I do it. which is annoying because the beeps are more than a little slow when lagging. Also, it might be possible to miss a gate completely if you jump over it or hit it too fast. And yeah, I've sometimes had to stand on the ramp to avoid DQ.

The only thing I'm doing with the summer event is the daily floater for the ship. I'm not really in to getting new outfits since most of them can't be worn off Risa because swimsuit category. Pets I have enough of.

Three more days and I'll be done with the ship grind and can leave the never ending daylight with daytime fireworks. The place has really gone down hill over the years it seems.

Weirdness today on Risa.... floaters disappearing in mid air and reappearing type weirdness.
You think there may be another "event" going on at the same time??????

Ugh....even more annoying: arrows not following along with you on the "Flying High" courses. LOL!

I have never seen this happen to any of my characters, and I have played every event on Risa....were they female KDF characters? Sometimes it is gender specific...like the Hula shirts shoulders being moth eaten for the ladies this year....which reminds me I need to check the tailor.
