Lost equipment on Visuals Tab

Was changing ships (discharged the old one) after getting the Ship Mastery trait and forgot to remove the Mk X Omega Force Engine and Shields I had under the Visuals tab. Is there any way I can get those back other than re-purchasing them? And why are these things not automatically un-equipped like what happens when you dry-dock them? I wonder how many players have lost stuff this way.
