Flare Mortars - Headache inducing, blinding, nauseating

Please adjust the Flare Mortars so that they do not flash-bang players. The white-out, flash-bang effect literally makes the game unplayable when the mortar is in action. Fleet mate and I just played through the new ground queue mission with someone who was using the flare mortar. We had to take a break from playing because of the effect that mortar had on us from the repeated white-out, ear-ringing sound and light effects of the mortar.

Well, it's just another failed attempt at fixing something.

    From the 5/4/2017 patch notes:
    Binary Circuit:
    • Resolved an issue where mortars could strike players on the other team unless the player is fighting as the Borg.

I can't even say if we were getting hit by the mortar. The entire screen whites out, with the ear-ringing sound effect. My character's health was the same before and after the effect whited out the screen. When I use the term unplayable, I mean that for those susceptible to those effects, the flash-bang renders the person playing unable to keep playing due to the physical effects experienced. I was left seeing spots, and my fleet mate was well on the way to a migraine.

I can play video games just fine. There is a reason that some games have epilepsy warnings. Repeated flashing items cause some people problems. When the effect is going off every 5 seconds of a match, the effects can build up and affect the player. We have played this game going on five years now. This is the first item that had this kind of effect on either of us. Perhaps instead of a brilliant white-out, a slightly dimmer or different effect could be used? Possibly a filter to make the screen temporarily fuzzy?

It begs the question why the effect has to affect the actual player and not simply root/slow the character in a "blinded" state and severe perception debuff. There are no other skills breaching the fourth wall.

Well, Cryptic is no stranger to using these flares. Check out the Farn System Patrol in the Delta Quadrant. Also entering the Exosphere of some planets also triggers this white-out effect. Check out the planet in the Crystalline Catastrophe (or Cataclysm) PVE.

Bug hunt also has some fairly strong flash, screen white out, however I just look away or squint. ; )

also, failsafe scrambler does the same thing in space

or did when it came out - they may have changed it like they changed the seizure-pulse on DRB
