FXAA has...issues with the tailor backdrop

The old tailor backdrop is back...and I wish it would go away. With FXAA anti-aliasing enabled it looks like this.

With MXAAx8 it looks okay but if one looks close the same margin between backdrop and character appears relatively jagged. So, generally it's having problems compared to other edges and to the old (ie. the newer) tailor backdrop.

I did a quick test, and I am unable to reproduce your issue with antialiasing set to FXAA. I'm not sure if it's because our other graphics settings differ or if the issue is specific to your hardware. You might want to post your graphics settings as well.

They keep messing with the tailor background. I honestly have no idea what their intention is.

    Some history:

I decided to retest this bug. I'm seeing different behavior from what khamseenair reported. I'm not sure whether that's due to differences in our graphics settings, differences in our computer specs, or changes to the code that were made in Season 12.

    1. Contrary to what khamseenair said, I'm not seeing any differences whether "Screen-space ambient occlusion" is on or off.

    2. In the ship tailor, I see a blurry background whether "Lighting 2.0" is on or off and whether "Screen-space ambient occlusion" is on or off.

    3. When "Lighting 2.0" is off, I see a blurry background the first time I visit the tailor. Changing the tailor lighting temporarily fixes the issue, even if you simply reselect "Default Lighting". If you exit and reopen the tailor once, the issue will remain fixed. However, if you exit and reopen the tailor twice, the issue will return.

    4. When "Lighting 2.0" is on, I see a star field the first time I visit the tailor. Changing the tailor lighting causes the star field to disappear; it gets replaced by a completely blank background. This happens even if you simply reselect "Default Lighting". If you exit and reopen the tailor once, the blank background is still there. However, if you exit and reopen the tailor twice, the star field will return.

I'm not sure why the tailor requires you to exit and reopen it twice in order to reset the lighting state.

As of March 15, 2017, the ship tailor no longer displays a blurry background on Tribble, and the regular tailor works the same way regardless of whether "Lighting 2.0" is on or off, though the way it works doesn't make a whole lot of sense. On Tribble, the tailor now consistently exhibits the "disappearing star field" behavior that I noted earlier.

Player characters and bridge officers are invisible in the tailor if you have "Postprocessing" turned on. You can briefly see the character as you exit the tailor, but this only lasts a fraction of a second.

    Steps to reproduce

    1. Turn on "Postprocessing" in the "Graphics" tab.
    2. Visit the tailor.
    3. Observe that your character is invisible.

    4. Exit the tailor and watch the character appear briefly for a fraction of a second.

I just investigated the settings. On min settings with FXAA there's no issue. When post processing is turned on I get a pixelated outline (same dimensions) that reveals the star backdrop added with L2.0 (now covered by the holodeck.) The character looks fine within that space. When post processing and ambient occlusion are turned on I get the pixelated outline that obscures the character (see. above screenshots). Ambient occlusion by itself does not produce the bug. Other graphics settings also appear to have no effect.

I set antialiasing to FXAA and tried toggling the usual suspects on and off:
    • Lighting 2.0
    • Postprocessing
    • Screen-space ambient occlusion
    • Cinematic focus (depth of field)
I can't reproduce your issue, nor can I get the star-field background to show up. It may be a combination of graphics settings and hardware that's causing the bug.

They've changed the tailor background several times. Each time, there was something wrong. I think this is the closest they've come to getting it right, though obviously it's still not quite right, since you're having issues with FXAA.

I am also having this issue. I hadn't really played with the settings to eliminate it, but after reading this post I switched from FXAA to MSAA x8 and the problem went away. Just another issue between STO and some AMD cards it seems.

Who knows, maybe on MSAA my extruding models issue will go away too. Probably not, but hope is a good thing.
