Stop whining. The only sad part here is that you whiners can't read, because "Critical Hit Damage Buff" very clearly refers to Critical Damage and NOT Critical Chance.
Here's the lessons you should learn from this, incase you don't figure them out for yourself:
1: Read the description of things properly.
2: Using something that is Bugged (AKA Not Working As Stated) will result in it being fixed to work as it is intended to.
3: Sometimes bugs can take a while to become noticed.
4: If something looks too good to be true. 99% of the time it is.
5: Critical Hit is the long form of Critical or Crit.
Also, you won't get a refund because you can't read. So stop trying.
P.S. I believe in buying ships because I want to fly them, not for adding an extra X% to my DPS.
Also, unrelated issue. The T5 Ranger's console "Photonic Decoy Beacon" can only be equipped on the T5 Ranger, and not the T6 (Paladin) or Fleet T6 one, making what is a nice console totally useless as it can only be used on a ship that is not even T5Uable. I also cannot think of another T5 Ship whose special console cannot be used on the T6 version of that Ship.
If you can't solve it logically, solve it like a moron.
51 + 1 Foundry Character Slots is NOT enough. Some of us love our characters. If I want to buy more character slots, why can't I? I couldn't experience the entire Delta Recruitment event without deleting a character.
The Iconians themselves can't time travel because their memories revert, but there is nothing to say an Iconian couldn't write everything she needed to do on a PADD, pin it to herself, travel back, read the PADD, do the tasks and return. Or just get one of her Non-Herald underlings to go back in time for her.
Oh yeah, I do Foundry missions for both KDFs and Feds. Just search KSTF (Short for Kinas Special Task Force, where Kinas is the name of the Admiral you will be serving under). The earlier ones are less story based and more combat based, while the later ones have a much heavier story element, but keep the large battles.
I'm going to repeat an earlier piece of advice mentioned here.
If a trait, ability, ship or console grants a significant buff, boost or advantage to the player, you can bet money that it'll get nerfed.
I have personally never bought equipment that was the latest overpowered, broken meta because sooner or later it'll fixed and you'll have wasted your money and time. Stop whining and chasing DPS because it'll get you nowhere.
At this point, it doenst matter what we think the trait should or shouldnt be. The damage has been done to the community and many in the community are angry at what happened. The number of people complaining about the changes on these forums, reddit, youtube, and in game is testament to the ambiguity of the text.
As a F2P game, Cryptic makes money off of the few who spend hundreds of dollars on the lockboxes and Zen items. I dont think they could survive otherwise...Its an old MMO with mediocre gameplay (while it is improving). Therefore, I try not to mock people who contribute so much on the game. I support their love for the game, and they have a legitimate reason to be heard.
We shall see how Cryptic responds. They have been pretty good about listening to the community recently about things like the plasma consoles, leech, GDF, and SNB.
No one spending money on this game is doing it because of the challenging gameplay that requires the latest and greatest brokenly OP trait to complete content.
Linking a bug fix to some kind of fiscal meltdown is bad comedy. And really not one iota more compelling than "whaaa!" as arguments go.
[*] "Hit and Run" Starship Trait now has a 35 second lockout that begins when the buff effects expire.
This matches up with Evasive Maneuvers' base cooldown, as this trait was not intended to benefit from cooldown r[eductions.
This seems the biggest change here to me. With how people focus on CD and ways to reduce it(re:Attrition warfare meta). How would the devs not know that tying the trait to an ability that can have it's CD reduced would result in the trait revolving around the actual CD of the ability and not the base CD? I mean seriously, there were twomajor reddit posts on CD management after the AW change was announced. People know and care about CD management.
So that just feels like sloppy planning and implementation.
Also, last time I was on tribble(trying to play with the devs), all of the undiscovered BOFF abilities could not be trained by any of my boffs. I never trained them in subnuc, so it wouldn't be tied to that. The abilities were just not there.
a Fix, implies that something was broken, not working as intended.

Starship Trait
After achieving level 5 in your Caitian Shikaris Escort, Ferasan Slithus Escort, or Hathos Warbird, you will unlock the Hit and Run Starship Trait. While this trait is slotted, Evasive Maneuvers will provide a very high damage resistance rating buff. When Evasive Maneuvers expires, you'll receive a weapon damage and critical hit damage (aka CrtD) buff for a short time.
They clearly sold the trait as being a critH boost. so this is not a 'fix' it looks like a bait and switch (only if you failed to read the description you posted. A CrtH boost on the order of the sci ult? Something seemed iffy the moment I looked at it) [?]
The trait itself was very powerful, too powerfull, which begs the question as why it got released in that 'must be nerfed later' state in the first place?
Anything that looks too good to be true usually is. Still a great trait, since the armor benefit is cat2, as well as the damage boost. CrtD is also possibly more useful, since CrtH can already be jacked up toward 50% on a sustained basis.
[...]"When Evasive Maneuvers expires, you'll receive a weapon damage and critical hit damage buff for a short time."[...]
So you bought a ship solely for a trait that didn't work as stated. This would be like buying the same ship solely for the Railgun that heals, and then being annoyed that when the Railgun was fixed to actually do what it was meant to do (deal damage, not heal).
This bug looks very clearly like a mis-tag in the code of CrtH instead of the correct CrtD (it happens). As a +30% CrtD buff is totally normal, a +30% CrtH buff is insanely high (CrtH buffs tend to be single digit). You cannot honestly believe that a +30% CrtH chance for using a common ability that can be used regularly [...]
P.S. I'm amazed by how many people are whining about something that is clearly broken and not working as intended being fixed so that it works as intended.
The only ones really complaining are those who got used to something they knew was overperforming and had started to rejigger their builds around it, possibly at some significant cost of resources.
Myself, I used 3k zen from farmed dilithium to buy the ship to try the heavy weapon (same way I bought the Avenger to try cruiser commands). Until these patch notes, I wasn't even aware of the cooldown aspect, since I assumed it would only be able to apply once every 60 or 90 seconds like a lot of other traits. 30% CrtH on top of cat2 damage and cat2 armor felt way too strong, so I held off on mastering the ship to see if something was up. Long story short, something was fishy. From my personal point of view, nothing's changed since my toons flying/mastering that ship are newer toons without Helmsman/Conn Holo who were only using evasive every 45s anyway.
Even though i don't think that they need to make any more change to the trait, as it was not working as intended by any reading of the trait. Though if they were going to make any further change to the trait than maybe have it give both a critical hit an critical damage severity buff over just a single critical hit buff. If the buffs were split that you would get 15% critical severity an 5% critical critical hit chance that might mitigate people feeling slighted.

What you describe there is actually what I initially thought it would be until I bought the ship and looked at it. I always assumed the magnitude would be relatively small (something like Improved Critical Systems). That's why it stuck out so much that I decided not to finish mastering any of the escorts I was flying until there was confirmation about it.
You guys knew it was advertised as buffing crit damage, but bought it because you knew it wasn't working as advertised?
And are complaining that now it works as advertised?
And cryptic did something wrong?
Where is your self-respect?
I'm not so sure many people bought it just for the trait, unless they'd been told about it by an acquaintance. It's a ship bought mostly out of curiosity to try the new mechanic that happens to have had a really good trait.
That said, it should've been obvious that it wasn't correct the moment you look in the ship status window.
Except I didn't buy the ships at all.
"Why are you even complaining then?" Cause I have plenty of friends who did and find themselves upset(Ah, the old 'make assertions on behalf of other people/the general public' tactic.). Also as a player I am fully entitled to giving feedback when I dislike something in their business practices.
you can test things for a billion years all you want
Yes, I understand fixing things can be a pain. Noticing that trait gives CrtH instead of CrtD, however, should take seconds. Could've at least mentioned that the trait is not WAI and they are trying to fix it. Again, Railgun that was fixed next day they discovered it was healing enemies, but for some reason they decided to be completely silent for 3 weeks when it came to trait. Also, some people over in Reddit are claiming that during those 3 weeks, devs had implied that it was indeed meant to be as CrtH. (Can ya find a quote to support that?)
If they had just taken the ships from you and not allowed you to use them after you paid cash for them, THEN and only then would you have a legitimate complaint.
Did I think the trait was OP with CrtH bonus? Absolutely. I'm not arguing about the trait itself, whether in my opinion the fix/change was needed or not. I'm saying that with this incident, Cryptic has given their customers a bad taste in their mouths, and people aren't going to run to buy ships on release day anymore(probably a good idea on general principles).
Well, if you slobbered all over yourself and bought these T6 Ships or the T6 Cross-faction Science ships that were released without having the customary introductory Weekend T5 pricing, then you have yourself to blame. Learn self-control and you would have nothing to complain about. Waiting for the inevitable 20% off Ship Sale, would have let them correct their mistake and sent a message to PWE to get back on track with introductory pricing.
Also, THINK. Critical Damage (CritD) not Critical Chance (CritH) is what they said. You were only asking for trouble if you thought this would give you 30% CritH.
Have you not Upgraded Spire Consoles? You go from Mk XII UR to Mk XIV Epic, after pouring tons of Resources into upgrading and move from 1.6% to 1.9% CritH and really thought these were going to give you 30% CritH so easily? Very, very foolish or disingenuous.
While it was clear in this case, know full well that precise clarity in News Blogs is NOT PWEs strong suit.

"Why are you even complaining then?" Cause I have plenty of friends who did and find themselves upset. Also as a player I am fully entitled to giving feedback when I dislike something in their business practices.
Then let them come on here and give their feedback and speak for themselves. You're entitled to give feedback, but when you don't pay attention to the blog when it clearly says "critical hit damage" and "these stats are subject to change," and then come here to complain you have no credibility to work with and no credible complaint. If you choose not to read the blog then that's purely on you and not their business practices. If you didn't buy the ships by your own admissions then why do you care.
Again it said plain as day critical hit DAMAGE. Can't get much more clear than that. Instead of simply abbreviating it as CrtD they chose to actually spell it out. If you've played mmos for any extended period of time you should be able to recognize it whether it's abbreviated as CrtD or spelled out as Critical Hit Damage. Again that's purely on you and not the blog or Cryptic. Neither you or I have seen the code for the trait so neither your or I know what was required to fix it. Out of the literal hundreds and even thousands of ability interactions do you honestly think they're going to have the time to post every single bug out there? Your logic on the trait is also faulty because they didn't acknowledge the bug right away with kemocite either. Point being however is that they did acknowledge it at and fix it. What you think should be obvious to them isn't always as obvious. The devs don't typically play the game as often as players and there aren't anywhere near the number of devs as there are players. They catch alot of stuff themselves, but there's also alot that they don't catch as well until it goes live. They're human and they're going to miss stuff from time to time. We don't know what it took to fix the trait vs the railgun so for all we know it took alot more to fix the trait.
Now here's my question for you when it comes to reddit, did they actually say it was CrtH? If they actually came out and said in plain black and white that it was meant to be CrtH then yes I can see the complaints. Unless they outright said it was supposed to be Crit Hit instead of Crit Damage, it's nothing but speculation on the part of the reddit crowd.
However at the end of the day, even if it was supposed to be Crit Hit instead of Crit Damage the blog makes clear the stats could change. You don't have to like it if they do change the stats but they have every right to change the stats. It's no different then the changes that were made to the Chel Boalg. Originally the blog stated it was Temporal seating, yet we were given Intel seating instead. So regardless they can and sometimes make changes to things. EVERY mmo from time to time does this and STO is no exception.
You don't have the authority to tell what is legitimate complaint.
Did I think the trait was OP with CrtH bonus? Absolutely. I'm not arguing about the trait itself, whether in my opinion the fix/change was needed or not. I'm saying that with this incident, Cryptic has given their customers a bad taste in their mouths, and people aren't going to run to buy ships on release day anymore.
I don't need authority to point out the oxymoronic and self-defeating logic you're using. As I said previously, if something is too good to be true, then it probably is. The only "incident" here is people not reading the blog carefully then wanting to throw a temper tantrum because the trait was fixed to work as intended. It's no different than kemocite. Folks knew kemocite was busted yet invested into it anyways, then threw a hissy fit when it was fixed even though they knew full well it was busted. If you don't pay attention to the blog and read it carefully then you have no one to blame but yourself. This one is purely on the folks that bought the ship without paying attention to the blog and not on Cryptic.
Unless someone is extremely new to the game, then logic and previous experience should tell you that a buff of that caliber with no cooldown, and that can be maintained infinitely probably isn't working as intended. Would it be cool if it was, absolutely it would. Just as I told the folks complaining about kemocite, I promise you and your friends will survive.

For darkbladejk: "If you don't pay attention to the blog and read it carefully then you have no one to blame but yourself." is a very poor argument. In any business, a large part of the sales come from word of mouth recommendations from other customers. If another player recommends something to me, I shouldn't have to go find the original post from a month or two back and then try to determine whether Cryptic screwed up on it's stats. Cryptic should not be making these kind of mistakes. It has a responsibility to its customers to get its products right. If I have to routinely double check Cryptic's work then Cryptic products are not worth buying.
Ahem. I would like to point out that you guys have included the artisanal sound system in this patch.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Please leave it there, devs!
And same as others, the description was quite clear to me and English isn't my native language. "Critical hit damage buff" obviously means "Critical hits have their damage increased", which means a boost of Critical Severity.
I mean +20% bonus damage AND +30% critical hit chance? It's painfully obvious something was wrong with that.
I'm actually more "shocked" about the name "Hit and Run" when it should technically be "Run and Hit".
What happened to the old adage "too good to be true"? Is it not taught anymore these days?
EDIT: Also, still no sight of the reputation tailor unlocks.
Umm...yeah...you don't buy much software do you. EVERYTHING these days has bugs in them. With how complex our computer systems are these days, it is literally IMPOSSIBLE not to have them. Don't like it...then leave the computer age and go back to using your abacus and pen and paper. If you expectation is otherwise, you are an unreasonable customer who will and SHOULD be ignored.
Expecting something to work properly is not unreasonable. Any company which treats customers with your attitude is going to fold.
I feel bad for people who bought it... I just started a new Caitian race toon and i was planning on buying the set... that was the main feature! I guess I won't bother levelling it this weekend.
Happy I didn't waste my money... sorry to those who did.
We really have to organize against this and the other narrow minded changes they are making. This game needs a change in management.
you do realize how many management changes this game has had and the impact of each one? currently the management of this game is the best it has ever been. so they made a mistake that makes them as human as the rest of us big whoop., get over it so now people know the nerf is there but you know what players are still gonna buy it no matter what.
Except I didn't buy the ships at all.

most reason why players go and buy a ship on launch day is to get the discount before it goes full price after launch weekend.

Nowadays things are simply too big and complex to not have bugs. Some, like this example, are minor cases of accidentally using the wrong value (ticking the wrong box, a typo, etc. I don't really know how Crit Chance and Crit Damage are listed in the code). Some companies, like EA and Ubisoft, have launched games (a recent Sim City and Assassins Creed spring to mind) that have been so bugged they weren't even really playable at launch.
Guess what, those companies are still around and they treat their customers with a much worse attitude (especially EA).
P.S. If something is too powerful (especially something that normally provides a small to mid sized boost like a Trait or Starship Trait), it's probably not working as intended and you really should expect it to change. The only exception is Attack Pattern Alpha (which really needs it's +X% All Damage changing to +X% Weapon Damage).
If you can't solve it logically, solve it like a moron.

Did I really just read almost a full page of sniveling that a new ability is getting corrected to match its description? Really?
There is NOTHING ambiguous about "critical hit damage buff". Nothing. If you're not grasping that -- or claiming to not grasp that -- I don't think there's an innocent misunderstanding at work. That's more like willful misreading. It has always said what it was meant to do, and now it's going to do what it says it does. That's not bait and switch or any of the other usual hamfisted attempts at browbeating the Devs into giving the players another tragically overpowered loophole. That's a bug fix. And it's gonna take a lot better argument than "WHAAA!!" to turn it aside.
The sniveling is because it came out doing something better than it should and the rampant self-interest on parade here is disgusting. If it had mistakenly given you +8 engine power or some other equally unrelated effect, people would be CHEERING for a swift and timely fix. But oh no, don't touch my precious Deeps... The only bright point is so far we haven't had some jacktard trot out the phrase "slap in the face", the true avatar of the groundless self-righteous argument from absurdity.
This 100x. I only had to read the blog post a single time to fully-comprehend the trait description and purpose. The inclusion of the word 'damage' is everything.
For darkbladejk: "If you don't pay attention to the blog and read it carefully then you have no one to blame but yourself." is a very poor argument. In any business, a large part of the sales come from word of mouth recommendations from other customers. Your own logic is actually self-defeating in this instance. I agree a large part of sales come from word of mouth. The blogs speaking on these ships are the ads or articles to tell you what to expect from the ships. In those ads/blogs it plainly says the stats may change. A prime example of this is the Chel Boalg. Originally the blog stated it was based in temporal seating, yet what we got was intel seating. Guess what, the stats changed. Getting back to our word of mouth statement for a moment, as I said I agree this is a large part of sales. However this is where you logic falls flat. If someone misreads the blog post that states plain as day "critical hit damage" and thinks it says "critical hit" and that person buys the ship pack, if that person then recommends the ship pack based off his misreading to a second person who also buys the ships, who is at fault? If you say 2nd guy then you would be half right. The 2nd guy should have looked at the blog himself before making the purchase that was recommended to him based on bad info from the 1st guy. If you said the 1st guy, you would again be half right. The 1st guy should have made sure he read the blog correctly before he bought the ships for himself or recommended them to the 2nd guy. If you said both of the 2 guys then you could be 100% correct.
However if you said Cryptic is the one at fault then you would be 100% wrong. From the get go they have stated "critical hit damage " in their blog when dealing with the ships. If you can recognize what the abbreviations such as Acc, CrtD, CrtH, Dmg, and such abbreviations mean, then you should have no problems recognizing them when they're spelled out completely. Critical hit damage is simply another way of saying severity. In any language we look at all words in a sentence to figure out what it's trying to tell us. In this instance we see that the blog is trying to tell us that it gives us Critical Hit Damage. If the blog had simply stated Critical Hit then you would have a legitimate complaint. However the words Critical Hit are modified by the word Damage in this instance which reads as, Critical Hit Damage. If the blog had read as Critical Hit Chance, THEN you would have a legitimate complaint.
You should ALWAYS go with the official sources above the word of a player when it comes to things like this. If someone as a player tells you it gives crit hit chance, but the blog says crit hit damage, then guess what he's lying to you, be it intentional or not. No Cryptic shouldn't be making mistakes in releasing a bugged trait, but they're going to do so from time to time because they're not perfect. To expect someone to never make a mistake is naive and unrealistic.
You may not like to hear that you should have read the blog more carefully but whether you like it or not it's a legitimate argument and it's the truth. This whole debacle is an unnecessary one and one based on people having not paid attention to the blog. It's like walking into a 20% this thursday sale and expecting them to give you the 20% off price even though it's still the tuesday before the sale starts and then throwing a tantrum when they don't give it to you. Someone is in error for sure but it's not the business, it's you for not reading the terms and conditions. You don't get to claim ignorance of the law in court because you didn't read what the law says or you misread the law, so why would you expect to be given a critical hit boosting trait when the blog says something? If you don't read what the blog says and buy a ship you're dissatisfied with then that's on you. I fail to see how doing due diligence and making sure you read everything right is some huge burden to people that they're making it out to be.
Have you ever heard the old saying "if it's too good to be true it probably is." Did you really think they would give you a trait that would let you have an additional 30% crit hit chance that you can cheese for infinite up time? You're only fooling yourself if you think they actually would give you something that OP. Even tactical captains don't get something that busted so why do you think they would give it to you in a trait. Secondly the fact that it didn't have a lockout timer and is giving that massive of a buff of crit damage should tell you it's probably not working right.

This is obviously a heated discussion that is bringing out a lot of passionate responses, but please don't make me close a Tribble notes thread, guys. Take a deep breath. Discuss without insulting.
I think I agree with the guy who said that everyone could have understood that a single trait would not boost a very common ability by adding 35% crit chance. Even if the wording was confusing, some basic understanding and feeling for the size of what are, ultimately, general mechanisms should have made things clear.
A player has, by default, something like 66% crit severity if I'm not mistaken. Crit chance is somewhere near 2.5 % I believe. Severity boosts are, further, always associated with the larger numbers.
So next time, keep that in mind. And perhaps it would also be wise if Cryptic stuck to one specific term: crit chance and crit severity, that's how it's also represented in the character overview screen in-game.
As for the Caitian escort itself: cool ship, really enjoying it. Couldn't care less about the trait
I hope we'll still get fleet skins for the fleet variants though, those seem to be missing.

Linking a bug fix to some kind of fiscal meltdown is bad comedy. And really not one iota more compelling than "whaaa!" as arguments go.
This seems the biggest change here to me. With how people focus on CD and ways to reduce it(re:Attrition warfare meta). How would the devs not know that tying the trait to an ability that can have it's CD reduced would result in the trait revolving around the actual CD of the ability and not the base CD? I mean seriously, there were two major reddit posts on CD management after the AW change was announced.
Anything that looks too good to be true usually is. Still a great trait, since the armor benefit is cat2, as well as the damage boost. CrtD is also possibly more useful, since CrtH can already be jacked up toward 50% on a sustained basis.
While it was clear in this case, know full well that precise clarity in News Blogs is NOT PWEs strong suit.
l don't know.
l really don't know what l'm about to say, except l have a feeling about it.
That l must repeat the words that come without my knowledge.'

Any company which treats customers with your attitude is going to fold.
you do realize how many management changes this game has had and the impact of each one? currently the management of this game is the best it has ever been. so they made a mistake that makes them as human as the rest of us big whoop., get over it so now people know the nerf is there but you know what players are still gonna buy it no matter what.
most reason why players go and buy a ship on launch day is to get the discount before it goes full price after launch weekend.
Expecting something to work properly is not unreasonable. Any company which treats customers with your attitude is going to fold.
This 100x. I only had to read the blog post a single time to fully-comprehend the trait description and purpose. The inclusion of the word 'damage' is everything.
