You mean play the right way... with teamwork to accomplish the mission so that other players don't waste their time.

The world is not perfect and neither are MMO players.

If the OP is so concerned about getting every single mark Normal and Advanced queue missions rewards, then he / she should form a pre-made team or play those missions with fleetmates (assuming the OP is in a fleet) who knows what to do. The OP has not complained about failed missions, only not getting all the mark he / she wants; therefore the OP is only playing Normal or Advanced queue missions.

The other option is to play the elite versions of the queue missions (not all will have elite). Since the optionals are in fact mandatory in elite, it is in everyone's best interest to focus on completing the "optionals" so that the mission does not fail.

If the OP is seeking "perfection" in queue missions, then pugging is the absolute worst way to achieve it.

The op is seeking completion and teamwork, I believe, but if you want to take it a step further and demand perfection then, wow! Arrogant much??

Don't forget the people in the Tzenkethi Front, who pick up the bomb, go to the base, and sit there trying to kill everything while they have someone there drawing aggro from the bad guys. they could easily drop the bomb and move on, but noooo. They gotta kill everything w/in 10km before they feel like dropping the bomb.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

I get the feeling that leveling ship mastery may be part to do with it since they took away the ability to get double XP in Red Alerts.
I stream on Twitch, look for Avoozl_

It's great to know the proper way to run these missions...... that I'll never be able to play again because no one's queued for them and Cryptic won't let me play most of them myself and everyone else just playing the latest one only or stuck in tedious battle zones. But yeah, it's good to know.

Whether something is an optional or not is not that important I think. There are missions that people join to get the optional like the ground Borg STF's. If players deliberately don't pay attention to optionals (which are, regardless of what they're called, still mission objectives) then you might as well say that the loss of an optional is enough reason for others not to care about the overall objective.

Going AFK or leaving the mission seems justified then, if we follow the line of reasoning that not caring about optionals is perfectly fine.

I know people who actually do that.

Yeah it would be nice if we could play the queues with less than 5 people. Some queues could be played so much more often if you could do them with 3 players - and it might make normal missions and some advanced ones more interesting. For many missions like Gateway to Grethor, Azure Nebula, Starbase incursion, Fleet Alert, Counterpoint etc. it doesn't really matter anyway as you can finish those even when you're alone. Things like Undine Assault might be more difficult if the team has no one to compensate for missing members, but for many queues there seems little reason not to make them playable with smaller teams.

    I would welcome this change.

Trying to get the gSTF accolades in a pug is an exercize in futility to start with.

I kinda do that... 'cuz many times when I have a bomb, no one bothers to escort me. I don't try to kill everything just enough enemies so that I can find a safe spot behind a base to deploy the bomb w/o getting attacked.

I recommend they play Elite missions since it is in everyone's best interest to complete the "optional" objectives.
