Captains, the Star Trek Online Gateway system will be shutting down on April 13th. While some members of the community enjoyed it, the system never garnered enough interest to warrant further support. There are no plans for a similar feature at this time, and we apologize for any inconvenience it’s removal may cause.

It had potential really, all those little things that don't involve flying ships, sharing your build with people, although it failed to serve that role when the update to boffs was pushed that allowed them to have more than one ability, then the update system put the final nail in it's coffin as it wasn't updated to account for these factors. Still, this is stuff the company already knows so I'll stop.
*Sigh* Farewell Gateway, twas nice knowing thee.
More like never garnered enough support to warrant further interest.
Excellent business decision to completely ignore the mobile market. Keep up the good work guys.
But yes, after hearing of Neverwinter's botters exploiting their system, it does make sense.

I would have used it more if it actually worked.
In fact, if it supported reputation projects, I'd use it every day. Since 99% of the time I log in daily, is for reps.
A shame it's going away, I would have liked to see it expanded.
Actually sounds like the Mudd Android, Norman, would have blown up over.
It is not popular so we will not support it, but it cannot be popular because we did not support it. But you cannot... Norman coordinate. Boom.

To say that it "never garnered enough interest to warrant further support" is completely disingenuous - unless you mean it never garnered enough interest among the DEVs - because it CERTAINLY garnered a good deal of interest among the players, until your perpetual lack of support for it killed it.
Thanks for the heads up though. It's nice to have advance notice.
And even when it did it wouldn't always show all the parts it even did try to show, and would show some of those it did show wrong.
It wasn't a lack of interest.
We were just all wondering when it'll get out of pre-alpha.
Shm...
I did enjoy and used the gateway myself
*depressed sigh*
This had great potential to become an app for phones too.
You've missed a trick, there.
I'm an employee as well, so I don't blame the Devs or Designers who might have great ideas how to improve the Gateway and make it more usefull. Their boss defines "priorities".
If Cryptic would've taken a look to Blizzard and their Diablo 3 "Gateway", the STO Gateway would've been used much.
Just copying from Blizzard would've been a great idea and there would never been a reason to use the STO Academy Skillplanner to share a build.
There're so many great ideas to make the STO GW really useful. I'm really sorry and sad you never realized one of them. So yes, the STO GW as it was, was just useless for us.
I hope you'll bring back a STO GW 2.0 later... useful.
Happy Easter to you and your families,
Mark
