I worry you guys are passing up a golden opportunity to pioneer a new direction for MMO games.
The heavy railguns on the new escorts are revolutionary, and could be the seed that grows into an entire new way of looking at the genre.
Why not make available to players a new role, the Challenge Enhancement Class.
Challenge Enhancement Officers would be able to heal and buff NPCs, creating a more challenging and interesting and less predictable gameplay experience for their fellow players.
I myself would pay a lot of zen for access to these abilities, and I don't think I'm alone.
Think outside the box!

9/10 players in public queues are challenge enhancement officers! They all do a superb job by the way.

A request for a legitimate means to troll other players....utterly ridiculous.
come now its a good idea (im trying hard to keep a straight face)
But with one little tweek they can heal the enemy but in the same token receive 100% of the aggro from all enemies on the map lol
People prefer controlled challenge not legitimate griefers. Also, there is the problem of how these legitimate griefers actually level up. It seems really boring having to rely on Bridge Officers or Teammates to get to endgame since it defeats the purpose of being a legitimate griefer to actually cause damage to an npc.
A challenge checklist that allows teams to buff the npcs or debuff the players with appropriate rewards is the best possible method of increasing the challenge.
The devs making a class where the whole purpose is to grief other players. So teams are giving up a spot for a player that doesn't contribute anything and betrays their team at the first sign of combat.
Why not make BETTER content, with better gameplay mechanics, and make sure Cryptic screen serious bugs with every new release.
The problem is that only certain people want it more challenging and less predictable. Such a class would be instantly turned into a pariah where only very few people would actually want them on their team. If they join a public queue or a Battlezone, then they either need the other players to carry them to finish the content or make public content harder for everyone that doesn't want it. In any public queue, there is a good chance that the team will instantly disband due to not wanting a afker or worse a griefer on their team.
You only see it fixing a very small part of the game and can't see what it will do to the rest of the game. Monster PvP could be fun, but this is more like having a teammate that has to betray their team or have the team carry them because there are no other choices. There are far better methods of making the game challenging and unpredictable for those that want it rather than forcing it on everyone.
Instead of a trolling device druk instead make the enemies stronger more powerfull, like the borg give them their nuts back for petes sake, and the entity should be a daunting task to overcome not done in 30 seconds or less or you get the second entity free.
Tbh cryptic needs to up the stakes like they did when there were fail options for STFs , it forced the players to fight harder get better gear form stratagies , but now everyone gets a trophy so no hurt feeling bs.
anyways i think they should reinstate fail options make the enemies harder to fight.
I've supported making some content more difficult or at least requiring people to think of their abilities a bit more by making mindlessly spamming your abilities detrimental in some situations - but this idea is too crazy, even for me
It could be fun maybe if such a player (or maybe a Dev who's playing as, for example, a Borg reinforcement Cube) could turn up every now and then in a random advanced or elite queue and heal some specific enemies - but not if that player could do it whenever he wanted and the whole time.
As long as we could fry you for collaberating with the enemy. Easy enough for your ship to be changed from fiendly to hostile and once killed no respawn for you and no rewards. I'd pay just to be able to do that to you.
Oh you liked the disaster DR was? Where somehow optional definition was changed to mandatory and automatic fails for not doing optionals. How about no as it punished players who were not fully up to speed in the game or still a had not gotten better then greens due to them not being able to complete a STF to get the rep marks to get the better gear.
They had nuts?
The problem with the fail conditions is that its too easy to troll then. Get one guy who decides "I'm gonna purposefully fail a group and make them wait a whole half hour before they can do it again for teh lulz as they get punished for something I did *evil mustache twist laugh*" and guess what... you have no choice but to wait half an hour for the cooldown because someone failed you.
I'd say leave advanced as is, but I will compromise and say make Elite have the fail conditions. That will give the top players their challenge, while allowing casuals and not so hardcore players the ability to still grind for gear. And of course the rewards have to be appropriate for Elite as well. So lets say one salvage tech and 2 elite gubbins for an elite run, kinda like Korfez if I remember correctly.
You're basically advocating legalized trolling. Not only that, but you're encouraging someone to try their hardest to COUNTER their own team and FAIL them, thus denying resources for half an hour. And what happens if you get a whole TEAM of them in one STF? How do you even do that?
Short version:

colored text = mod mode
That one is so stupid, he lost a Rock/Paper/Scissors game to a Pony.
