New computer, no sound in STO

headley523headley523 Member Posts: 14 Arc User
Hey there all,

I got a new gaming computer for my birthday. I have great sound in everything out of STO. However, once I log in to STO I have no sound whatsoever. I have tried the following:

1. Turning the PC off and on again.
2. Uninstall/Reinstall
3. Updating drivers for both my graphics card and sound.
4. Opened a ticket with tech support sent them my dxdiag.txt and audio settings. The ticket has now been open for two days and still no sound.

I have an Alienware model: AW17R4-7000SLV-PUS

Inside:
Intel i7-7700HQ
16GB DDR4
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8GB)
Windows 10 (64)

If anyone has any advice, please help. Playing silently sucks.

Thank you all in advance,

What audio drivers do you use? I know Nvidia has their own but that's for HDMI connections I believe. I had some audio driver issues with windows 10 before. Updating and roll-backing didn't help me. I had to use a different one that was pre-installed.

The sound drivers are the pre-installed ones. Tried updating them through device manager and it tells me that the ones I have are up to date.

Can you show me a screenshot of them? Windows 10 messed up audio drivers so one of the pre-installed ones may not work.

Ugh, apparently I can't post a screenshot. Honestly, I am not the best with computers.

This album is for the Realtek device that shows up in my output device in Audio Settings.

I noticed Intel, Nvidia and Realtek. I assume Realtek is the one you use? Or do you have HDMI and use the Nvidia one.

Realtek is the only thing listed in game under Audio: Output Device

By Audio: Output Device do you mean under Control Panel, Sound, Playback Device? Ok can you take a screenshot of that I need to see the Playback Device screen and also can you do this for me. Open up control panel, then device manager. Go to the Sound section and right click on Realtek then click update select browse my computer, then select let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer. Then screenshot that and upload it please.

I mean in game under Options: Audio: Output Device. Sorry, I should have specified. LOL

Here is the link for the Realtek drivers:

OK before I suggest any changes can I also see your playback device screen? Under Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, Playback. This will help me know which driver you use, so I can suggest how to proceed. When you check, look for the top one Speakers or Headphone and underneath it it should say the driver you use. Now if it says you use the Realtek one you don't need to screenshot it, go back to my last comment follow what I said to update it and select High Def Audio not the two Realtek ones. Update/install that one and then test it if it doesn't work you can simply revert back to the other driver and then I will do more research to help you.
