Weapon Question - Kelvin Timeline Phaser Emitters

manumagicpig#1213 manumagicpig Member Posts: 17 Arc User
Hey Guys,

Still new around here, spend all my EC on some new fancy weapons for my arbiter, im attempting to do all beam and 1 torp .... however I accidentally bought some Kelvin timeline phaser emitters thinking they were beams because they had the same image of beams but they arent ... what weapon do they count as? energy projectiles? :/ spent like 4mill on them which i know isnt alot, but to me it was all i had saved lol

is it viable to use just the emitters or a mix of emitters and beams? :) if not ill try to sell them off and get some more beamers

Cheers

  • seaofsorrowsseaofsorrows Member Posts: 10,919 Arc User
Yes, they count as beams. They just have a different firing effect from conventional beams.

    You're all good. :)

lol when I 1st took them out and started firing I was like. what the... then I heard the effect of overload.
  • manumagicpig#1213 manumagicpig Member Posts: 17 Arc User
They are cool, I loved the firing effect in star trek into darkness, they looks super cool so im actually debating getting just full emitters haha

Just gotta save up my EC :( lol - just got my arbiter ship so i want to get some badass weapons for her

Yeah Kelvin Beam Arrays are cool looking. I'm torn between them and the Pulse BAs for which FX I like better.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

and if you ever want a similar effect in polaron flavor, vaadwaur polaron weapons also supposedly have a bolt effect on their beams

i say 'supposedly' because i haven't actually seen any in action myself
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

VPol is a super thin dark purple beam that doesn't last as long as most other beams, sort of like how the effect of pulse phaser cannons looks. It can look like a pulse effect, but only if you have a bunch of them (which with beams is of course likely the case). They are pretty cool looking in any case, but they are pricey as heck last time I looked.

I run a few of each, just for the effect, both front and back. I do love my Phaser boats.

im still pretty noobish at all this thou, my build is most likely super rubbish and im wasting a cool ship :P lol

No, you're not wasting a cool ship. No, your build isn't rubbish, either. Like all of us when we began playing STO, you are learning what you can about the game. Everyone starts somewhere in this game and not all of the experts are expert at all things STO. Lots of help everywhere and lots of people who will be glad to share what they know. Most times, all you have to do is just what you did here - ask.

Best way to learn things about this game is to try them out for yourself. And if you make a mistake, so what? You stated you were worried you wasted 4 million EC. It's imaginary money. In an imaginary universe. Playing a game. So even if it turns out you had spent the imaginary money on some imaginary items which you found out afterwards did not work the way you thought they did, you didn't really "lose" anything at all. And next time, now that you've learned something about STO, you'll spend the imaginary money on imaginary items which work the way you want them to.

Last piece of advice I can give you. If you are having fun while playing STO then you are winning the game.

I'm going for the Temporal antiproton chroniton beam weapons, and turret, with torpedo.
I know everyone hates the idea of rainbow bright unicorns ships. But I so want a sailor Moon ship....... Need to get shields, engine, and deflectors as well.
So to get this effect I just keep doing the Temporal reputation and save up to buy them from the Rep store yes?
And before you start with the trolling jokes I'm female, so yes I want a girly chick ship lol

then you'll be wanting these - literal rainbow beams

    http://sto.gamepedia.com/Temporal_Defense_Chroniton_Beam_Array

and they come in all weapon types - beam arrays were just the first that popped up in the search box

Do they come with the Kelvin timeline phase emitter variant? Like little rainbow coloured bolts would look amazing haha

they don't; if you want bolts, you'd have to use cannons

There's just something gratifying that brings a smile on your face about killing a bad guy that just said he is going to slaughter you with a rainbow powder puff weapon, it's like yeah you're so bad that I can one shot you with a rainbow, the goodness and cuteness if a Care Bear burns evil so bad.
And the weapons are a nice colorful look in the game, just have to grind the Temporal reputation to open up tier five to get the good stuff. And refined dilithium, and energy credits.
At least I think that's where you get the Temporal Chroniton items from.
I got some nice xIII purple ground guns from the boxes you get from the reputation missions. Very cool looking.....
  • manumagicpig#1213 manumagicpig Member Posts: 17 Arc User
Im still just getting into the whole rep stuff still :/ honestly ive been very inefficient with my time and have spent alot of it firing ma lazers and stuff, I need to look into the nitty gritty systems and start making some good progress, I need more ec badly but just cant be bothered with it lol

wouldnt mind making my lazers a bit better :P
  • technowarwitch#0929 technowarwitch Member Posts: 10 Arc User
Best way to get EC is just do all the story missions, anything that you do not need put up on the exchange, and stuff that's bound sell to np venders. Also send your duty officers out on their missions, you can get a lot of exp and EC just from that, And they work even if your offline.
  • tiberious#6095 tiberious Member Posts: 183 Arc User
For EC & Dil, focus on Admiralty. After hitting rank 10 in all 3 factions, you should have 4 epic yellow ship cards and can keep ships on assignment almost continually, if you have the time to do so.

I have 4 characters and one just does Admiralty to support the other 3 and churns out new white Doffs for fleet project consumption for the 3.

Doffing gets you Doffs, Boffs and transwarp points along with crafting items and Doffs for crafting but lacks for EC and Dil. Might get a trait or two also.
  • postagepaidpostagepaid Member Posts: 2,899 Arc User
Crafting traits come at level15 for each one so can be a bit of a time sink to get, without store boosters My characters levelling theirs are getting 21k a day from 3 batches of the 20hour craft xp thing.

The kelvin spitters did make me do a double take at first when I used them to the point of I double checked the tooltips and did some googling. Might be beams but I'm not 100% sold on the visual aesthetic, maybe its because I'm not a fan of what jarjar did to trek.

I have a couple of ships with the undiscovered phasers which feel more like beams although I'm sure they should come with an epilepsy/siezure warning on the box. They seem to be more flickery in the orange.
  • manumagicpig#1213 manumagicpig Member Posts: 17 Arc User
yeah im churning away on duty officer missions but admiralty is much harder, i rarely manage to complete a mission :( but i have got alot of junk ships so im going to try and buy some new ones if i can
  • manumagicpig#1213 manumagicpig Member Posts: 17 Arc User
Also im bummed that the Xbox copy (which is what im on) does allow you to run starbase 24 which is what alot of people have recommended i do :(

Something it took me a very long time to learn about this game back in 2012 when I first started playing: Not everything has to be done in five minutes or less. I rushed through the game as fast as I could in pursuit of whatever shiny was important to me at the time. And if I did not acquire it within seconds of wanting it, I was disappointed in myself and the game.

Which means I missed stuff. (GASP!) My Accolade locker is barren. (OH NOOOOES!) Unless I got it in conjunction with a storyline mission, it isn't there. I discovered recently if I participate in the Nimbus III Dance Competition in the bar there, I can unlock an emote called Fan Dance. And yes, it is just as terrifying to watch as it sounds. Seeing my KDF Tac in KHG armor perform the emote for the first time is something there isn't enough eyebleach on the planet to remove. But it was still funny. Watching and listening to others around me react to the visual was jst as funny.

Take your time. Investigate every nook and cranny of every map. I also did not learn until recently there is an Accolade for getting to the top of the bar on Nimbus III. It is called "Tipsy Top". I've no idea what it does but it was fun trying to get it. And thank you, Mia K'teh, for helping out with this. Much appreciated!

The 4/4 bonus is evil. The Mining Laser is already 'press button to sentence target to death'. Cutting the cooldown in half... evil.

  • legendarylycan#5411 legendarylycan Member Posts: 37,283 Arc User
yeah, but you're having to give up a significant chunk of space to get that 4/4...and event with all the passive stats on the consoles, the consoles themselves and the set bonii, i really don't think it's worth giving up those slots; there's just too damn many things out there that work well ALL the time instead of only working really well SOME of the time
