Anyone planning on profiting from the R&D promotion boxes to buy a different ship?

djf021djf021 Member Posts: 1,382 Arc User
Just curious. I'm sure there are a lot of people who will be trying for the 26th Century Dreads, so I'm hoping the boxes will sell for a decent amount. As for the Dreads themselves, they will be too out of my reach financially, and while they look very powerful, I personally enjoy ships with higher turn rates. My main Tac toon needs a new ship, and I've been saving for the NX Escort refit, so that's what I'm hoping to buy after selling a few boxes.
Anyone else looking to buy a different ship by selling R&D boxes?

Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

I might buy 4-8 boxes to tuck away for sale later. They have a little better Ec return for your dollar than keys.

Personally, I think that this company has their rarity ratio chance set intentionally too strict, but whatever. I refuse to dump real world money into lockbox keys in the off chance that I might get a rare ship. Each time that I see youtube videos where some bozo or other opens hundreds of the latest version; I think where does this idiot get his money?

I do admit that the 23century temporal versions of the classic lore ships really hit a sweet spot for me and I love using those (and you can buy them individually, if you don't prefer to bundle).

I personally am happy just farming dilithium, converting to Zen, and then buying keys to sell on the Exchange. Usually can buy 3 keys a day for free. So I'll check to see what the R&D packs are going for vs Keys and see if they are more profitable. Downside is usually these promos drive down the price of the boxes because so many get bought, usually not worth it. Just doing keys I can get 400 mill EC every month and then just save and buy the ships I want when they come down to reasonable prices.

    I just want the J.

Though I can see a lot of throat slitting going on, like the first RD promo resulted in. :(

I don't care about the Enterprise J. Especially since it is not to scale. It is over 3,200 meters which means it should be about 5x the length of the Enterprise D.

Aren't those r and d packs supposed to be out now. 9 am pacific would be 12 noon here in MI and zi haven't seen the packs anywhere in the c-store.

R&D Packs should be in the Items section of the C-Store.

The new promo r and d packs are PC only? I think I read that the last time we had the chance to win a ship from a box, the item had a ship logo next to it. All I see on console c-store are regular packs.

I’ll buy 2x4 packs. They are on sale. 80 Lobi are nice and give me a chance to buy 2 lobi weapons. They are on sale as well.

I had a few spare EC on a main and bought three off the exchange for opening. Didn't get anything but then that EC was earned through playing the exchange and only takes a week or so to build up again with savvy buy/sell tactics.

The 30 lobi will be of use for something, even if only to buy pets or weapons for my toon. Might even sell the pets for more EC, a Porthos beagle is worth a fortune!

I think holding onto a coupe of promo boxes would be good providing thryvkerp their value. That depends how good and desirable these ships really are.

Not interested in buying or selling the ships. To expensive of a game to play to get anywhere I'd want to go actually. I'd prefer sinking my cash in to other games that gives me enjoyment and not strict RNG chances to do what I want to do. Now if they put things like this in the Z store directly instead of gambling boxes I'd spend more money/play more to save up.

You don't need to rely on RNG to get any of these promo ships. Zero gambling required.

Actually, I'm already having way too many ships available to fly, even with 14 characters. My Gorn scientist got his Gorn science vessel, because of...well, Gorn. That meant mothballing the Keldon he got just weeks before *grumble*. So not really any ships I absolutely want.

But since a 4-Pack got me an Infinity box the last time a promo was around, I might just see if I get lucky again with my stipend Zen.

Yeah I did...Sold some boxes on the exchange and bought a ship I've wanted for a little bit.

I mean, honestly, Nightken, do you find anything remotely pornographic of my 'cookie picture'? Considering what's actually IN GAME, heck, there's a patrol mission where you help a Ferengi get, for all intensive purposes......halo TRIBBLE, complete with halo-Vulcan girl in an Orion costume.....so what I post up is pretty tame in comparison, no? :)

When those ships are in the Z store I'll agree to the zero gambling/RNG statement. Till then it doesn't hold water.

RNG is no different than placing a bet on a race horse, getting a winning lottery ticket, or a good game of Russian Roulette.

Just giving the scalpers another get space rich meal ticket.

Actually bailey I can think of three different threads off the top of my head where mods removed your "art", might want to consider that val aint the only one tired of cgi barbies.

Tell em to take them out of the game first, if CGI Barbies bother you....otherwise you are hypocrite.

Back to topic, I wonder what the folks who win the dreads are gonna trade 'em in for.

Yup OP sums up everything wrong in the way things are done as far as these promos go. Farmers snap them up then resell them for insane prices and suckers buy them. Don't think for a second I'm butt hurt could really care less about these. Shrug someone will always profit from shafting someone else. Have fun getting ripped off.

Is the Enterprise J for sale on the exchange or is it just the r+d promo packs
