Just to clear this up, there haven't been any layoffs at Cryptic.
Just remember to turn down the PWE 'promotion' when it's your turn and enjoy the confused look on their faces.
Well, the BAD thing about a Promotion is this:
- Many times layoffs are done by order of Seniority in the position.
Unless your in a situation where they offer 'Cascading' back down to your previous/lower position (and pay) in lieu of laying you off (meaning you go back to your previous position and keep the seniority you had there - meaning someone else with lower seniority in that position will be let go, etc.); it means if there's ever a Staff reduction at that level, and you're 'newly promoted' - you're screwed.
Trendy was probably one of the most recent Senior Community Managers promoted - which meant she was also low on the list Seniority-wise; so she got laid off. I don't think it's any more 'sinister' then that. Game developers are all about the bottom line and maximizing profitability, and it's an Industry with high turnover and LOW job security. Cryptic is one of te few game development companies I know that actually try to keep their people for way above the average (and IMO in some cases - TOO LONG); but they're more the exception in that, then the norm.
