Yeah I know its free so no critics allowed and all. Actually the whole game is free to play.

But I find these giveaways always a slap in the face of people who actually DO buy these things in STO.
The game cannot live without PAYING customers. Those people are the real investors contributing to the devs salary's.

Many paying people already have these give away items because they bought them.
So why only please people who don't spend money to the fullest. They for sure have not yet bought any of these items.

Why not just give some free ZEN so every one can enjoy the give away equally and get what ever they like for free (or save it for later if they already have everything)? Or if that is a problem why not create some nice new items to give away?

Would be great if the community manager would share Cryptic's opinion in this.

Think of it as the cheese cubes you can sample in a super market. The give away items are all promotional items to encourage people to explore different parts of the game (costumes) or entice people to complete Ship (console) sets.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

figures they would have something for the 'vets' only; i'm not going to try to get to level 40 or 50 in 2 days, from level 15; i already started klingon and romulan just to get the ship slots, which is cool, tyvm.
. good show; wish you had specified in your announcement so i wasn't disappointed when i went to the store.

Well, as a brand new player, I have to say, I like the CONCEPT of free ships... but my main character isn't level 50 or whatever yet, so I feel like I just got Nelson-laughed at by this giveaway.

I mean, I can't even get these in the store and use them later, as opposed to a previous giveaway that was for level 60 but you still got it in your inventory.

(And I'm busy this weekend, so I don't think I can power-level my way up to 50 in time.) :/

    Also, wow. First post!

As a paying customer to Cryptic I support their decision to have a give away. It isn't like they asked for or expected my support.

After all, this could be looked upon as welfare for the F2Pers for their endless hours of grinding to support my in game life style.

And to anyone who can't get the ships because of whatever...
Don't worry it's not the first giveaway, and not the last, so just get your characters ready for next one (actually i expect at least one more this year - somewhere in fall, but there may be more).

    (Vice Admiral and Lieutenant General).

That's strange. Tier 5 is level 40. I guess that ships that're upgradable to 5u are 50. Looking at the store, the Ambassador refit is 40, but the others are 50.
You learn something new every day.

Tier 5 starts at L40 but the titles you get are different once you hit L45 and again at L50.
    @40 = Rear Admiral, Lower Half / Brigadier General / Subadmiral I
@45 = Rear Admiral, Upper Half / Major General / Subadmiral II
@50 = Vice Admiral / Lieutenant General / Vice Admiral <- Old level cap

Some of Tier 5 ships can be used from level 40, some not. Actually i think around 2 Tier 5 ships from Zen Store or so per faction can be used from level 40, the rest needs level 50.
All Events Ships (both T5 and T6) can be used from level 40... Though not all gear from Anniversary Ships can be used at that level...

Let's clarify this. The prizes on off from the 7th Anniversary do not exclusively consist of (unpredictable) c-store handouts. For example, we had spec points, tech upgrades, and shipyard capacity upgrades. There is also an omega scanning event in progress and a new T6 event ship on offer. If you feel left out because semi-irrelevant T5 ships were given away today, and old uniforms earlier in the week, you can feel included by any one of these other events. If they don't satisfy you either, then I don't see where one or two additional freebies would possibly get you.

Also, if you're worried about the financial stability of the game, you're not likely to make things better by giving away free money in preference to c-store giveaways that can't possibly be factored in purchasing decisions (in being so infrequent and unpredictable on an item-to-item basis.)

Really? REALLY? You realize that for every person the hasn't bought these ships already, Cryptic is giving up $75. Per person!

Cryptic is just giving away $75 worth of content and you find that to be a slap in the face (a far too overused phrase that's begun to lose its meaning) to those that have them already? The things came out 2 years ago. There has to be a balance. They have to make sure that the opportunity cost isn't too high so those PAYING customers still have something to spend their money on while giving away something desirable enough to get more players to become PAYING customers.

I play Klingon 99.9% of the time, but I have always admired that Federation battlecruiser. Going to snag it for my Starfleet officer. Thanks, Cryptic!

Don't sweat it, just be prepared for the next one as Cryptic does a bunch of these sorts of things. i.e. You want to have one of each faction at level 50. i.e Rom, Klingon and Fed, unless you absolutely know you will never ever want to play one of those factions and so don't care if you miss out on some free ships for them.

    Cool, thank you, guys!
I can now have the T'Varo and its console for the Malem without using the Veteran T5 ship token on every Romulan character!

First off, I don't mind in the slightest they use C-store items in these giveaways. I have had the formal and Intel costumes for a while, same as the B'rel, T'Varo (Avenger I find ugly, so I never bought that one). I have had plenty ships and costumes they gave away for free many times before that.
Many people don't. Just be happy you receive something, be it a costume, spec points, ship slots or the new Anniversary Lukari ship, or the great Omega upgrades through the Anniversary minigame.

You learn something new every day.

You can start getting Tier 5 ships at Level 40, yes. But not all T5 ships can be gotten at Level 40. Back even before I joined around the first anniversary, some C-store T5 ships were released requiring Level 50. I believe since then all new T5 C-store ships also required Level 50. Event ships, Lockbox and Lobi ships, however, (even Tier 6 ones) have remained available since Level 40.

Tier 5 Excelsior or Nebula, Varanus or Marauder are the old ships that have remained accessible since Level 40, like the free, rank up Tier 5 ships.

Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

I'm a paying customer and don't feel like it's any sort of slap in the face. I don't even care when I already own something they give away for free. I also get some free stuff I haven't bought yet. So I don't know, maybe the "issue" is with you and what you really think you're buying with the money you spend on your entertainment.

Thank you for this giveaway... i just wish, they would have put them into a bound to account box, that you could claim with any level, but only open with the level required for the ship itself.

Level 27 currently, probably not going to make it to 50 with all those random disconnects going on before those ships are gone... :'(

Nope. If you did, they'd say "and an upgrade token to go along with it!"

I have a lot of Rom/Kdf and Rom/Fed toons, plus a Fed AoY toon that are SO going to enjoy the new ships, well, not really as my Andorian AoY flies only the Andorian ships, and my Roms already have the Kara, T6 Scimitar pack and the Aelahl, but they will make nice Admiralty cards.

And it seems my one and only KDF toon gets to sit and weep for not being a high enough level to claim a ship.....

Not complaining, but as others have stated, it would be nice if characters could claim the ships no matter what level they are and just not be able to use them till they reach the appropriate level.

Seeing as how the second toon of each faction receives a ship in a box, obviously the ship box has already been creaed. It would be just a minor programming change to allow it to be claimed at any level, but not able to be opened till a specific level is reached. Heck, the coding has already been written, as evidenced by all the other boxed items that can be had at any level, but only opened once a specific level is reached, just use that same coding on the ship box.

Rumor has it we can also get a T5 Ambassador Retrofit too, but me and a few fleet mates can't find it. A person showed us a screen cap of it as proof as we can get it, but we still can't find it. Has anyone else saw it (or not). It should be in the T5 section of the C-Store. (Copy & Paste from Reddit)

No, that was, last year, i think or the previous, i know because i have it in my ships tabs in the c-store.

Based on this and from Reddit, I'm guessing that's what it is, but from how my contact sounded the T5 Amby was just unveiled in the C-Store and at a discount like the other giveaways. Though with excitement with today's giveaways, the message might have been mixed up. Thank you for clarifying that.

I recall one of the earlier give away events also provided the upgrade item. Does anyone know if that is also included in this one?

Hmm, the ones I've gotten in past years did NOT include T5-U upgrade tokens. Perhaps you're thinking of the C-Store sales that include a token when you pay zen for a ship?

FYI, at least on PC you can buy upgrade tokens on the Exchange for EC, not just in the C-Store for zen.

Mmmm. V.A.T.A. console :). Now I just wish I could equip it on the ship that inspired it: my Vengeance Intel Dreadnought.

I kind of wonder why the Avenger rather then the T5 Tactical Escort to match the KDF and Rom ships?
(Or the Mogh and Mogai for the KDF and Rom to match the Fed Avenger?)

Well, as it happens I already have all 3 of these which proves they're really good! :);)

But I'm very happy for the guys and gals that will get them - these are 3 of the most fun ships to take command of in STO. Especially the B'rel and T'Varo, they're pure unadulterated fun. The Avenger is pretty awesome as well, I still remember the day I bought my Avenger - it was the first ship with cruiser commands and the AI named it after my home town, which is a curiosity because I live in a small and not very familiar country - you can imagine my surprise back then. :) Ah, memories, memories.....it has been 6 years between the two of us, STO hasn't it? *raises a mug of bloodwine* Here's to many more!

And thanks Cryptic for the gifts these days! :) And for making STO a giving me my own part of Star Trek for the past 6 years. :)

With this and a past giveaway, this completes my fleet Malem's 3-piece set bonus to port some of the Faeht's stealth bomber build onto, and with 2 extra ship slots it'll be easier changing ships. Thanks for the giveaways.

Nah. Giveaways like this are supposed to encourage us to consider purchasing stuff/ships in the future.
Of this set of ships, I only get the B'rel, but that doesn't bother me that already bought the others - I wanted them at the time and do not regret my previous purchase.
