30th Anniversary of Next Generation?

What would be the chances of seeing a special event/mission or something related to the 30th Anniversary of the start of Star Trek: The Next Generation later this year?

(First episode was broadcast 28th September 1987 unless I'm mistaken).

As 50 years of Trek was celebrated with Agents of Yesterday, while Next Gen hasn't reached quite as big a milestone, it was essentially the rebirth of the Trek universe and spawned many characters, species and stories that we know and love and allowed it to continue and develop.

Was just thinking, though I imagine if it isn't already in the works it will be extremely difficult to prepare now.

Now that is a cool idea.

More to it, I was thinking.....

Given that a lot of Agents Of Yesterday depended upon time travel, what about having a PvE Queue where you are part of a temporal incursion into the aftermath of the battle of Wolf 359 where you have to buy the Enterprise-D enough time to sever the link between Locutus and the Borg Cube, during which the Cube can be considered immortal, and then destroy it once the link has been cut and the cube's tactical abilities are in disarray.

That'd considerably mess with the timeline. AoY depended on time travel, but it was to prevent or greatly minimize alterations of the timeline without the temporal agents being detected.

Yeah I hope they ignore it. TNG was the killer of the Franchise films just Like Ent killed the TV franchise..

audio emote 'tea, earl gray, hot' :P
maybe we could get the oooooooooold TNG dustbuster phaser or mini-phaser

as for mission idea? Maybe Philip, your friendly neighborhood temporal auto-hailing agent, could send us back to cause the anomaly that creates the loop that ends with him being our friendly neighborhood temporal auto-hailing agent. And he could do a full on 'Kurland here' level popup every 15s during the mission

You and me both. The different series will turn these ages this year.

    TOS - 8 Sep. 1966 (51 years)
    TNG - 26 Sep. 1987 (30 years)
    DS9 - 3 Jan. 1993 (24 years)
    VOY - 16 Jan. 1995 (22 years)
    ENT - 26 Sep. 2001 (16 years)

Last new episode of a Star Trek series on TV aired on May 13, 2005 (12 Years)

What are the chances they honor TNG this year?

They're pretty much confirmed, thanks to Geko's latest interview.

The big question is HOW MUCH will they do, and Cryptic apparently doesn't know at this point. We're not getting an expansion, since those are on 18-24 month cycles. Even though Season 12 deals with the Tzenkethi, Geko said this entire arc is to act "as a tribute" to TNG. They want to get VO talent involved, but they have contingency plans in case the money is too high.

I'd think Frakes might be do-able, as well as a return of Michael Dorn. Spiner would be their BIG get, I think, but that might be out of reach. Time will tell.

Is there anything that says Data is teaching at Oxford in this timeline? I thought it was only in All Good Things that we saw that.

A TNG tribute wouldn't require a full expansion, but there could certainly be some goodies we could have, some of which are even in game, like the Worf hairstyle, goatee and gold S1 baldric. We could have them again (though it'd be nice if we could have them as an account unlock) - but there's tons of things they could do, like Worf's ponytail hairdo (from the later seasons), his silver baldric from S2 onwards, the dustbuster hand phaser and its later model, the TNG phaser rifle, Crusher's labcoat to wear over a uniform, there's LOADS! And HOPEFULLY not really expensive character-only unlocks in the dilithium store.

And as for them saying we'd only get interiors if they're made for a story.... How about doing an interior and 'dirtying it up' a bit (like they did with Drozana when it's old versus when its new in those missions), and sending us to Veridian III to so something in the ruins of the Enterprise's saucer, like fend off some looters in preparation for a salvage mission or have us need to search for something there. That way, there's an excuse to use the make the interior and give it to us AND it can be used for future missions, as there's probably still quite a lot of Galaxy Class ships in service in our time. They could even do a colour swapped version in a nice Starfleet Grey to match the other Galaxy Style bridges in the game. That would look super amazing!

All together, it'd be nice to see more interiors and more stuff to do in them, as the ships were as much a character as any of the flesh and blood characters. I dream about the interior of my ship being a bigger part of the game, and if there can be more canon and canon-feeling ones to do it with, it'd be a huge part of making the game feel more Trek :)

Since Data doesn't age, there isn't anything stopping him from un-retiring if he feels like it (read: if the plot demands it).

No one else would want this, but it would make sense story-wise for our temporal agent selves to run into a grown-up Wesley Crusher as a Traveler and work with him to fix some time-reality-anomaly problem.

Actually, I'd love to run into him as well,... at warp 9.9... without stopping... with full power to engines and forward shields... with ramming speed engaged... with a Dreadnought.

err... somehow, this opinion is really screwy, since TNG added to the franchise and helped it continue. Not to mention TNG is responsible for every ST series being created from that point on, such as DS9... It was the test series, to see if there was any fanbase to bother with bringing back star trek - or mothballing it.

as for Ent... that had more to do with the time slot and next to nothing to do with the show. anyone who watches every episode of Ent with get an education concerning the ST universe. that's for sure. It may have some issues when you start watching it, but by the end, it grows on you. I didn't care for it when I started, but by the last show, I was disappointed it was over and wanted more.

I guess you totally missed what I said...First when I was talking about TNG I did not mention the TV series but I did say "TNG WAS THE KILLER OF FRANCHISE FILMS", and that is a fact. Look at the box numbers. The highest TNG adjusted North American box film "First cOntact" @ 140,531,447 which didn't even come close to making what Adjusted North American box TOS film "Star Trek the Motion Picture" @ 271,441,590 or in fact out box any of the first 4 TOS films. In fact the number one TNG film only out performed two TOS films and those were again Final Frontier and Undiscovered Country. One of the really sad things is every TNG film had a bigger budget then any of the TOS films sadly it was spent on effects not script.
Even the much loathed Final Frontier out performed Nemisis. ENT failed for many reasons and IMHO two things... First way to many Treks running at the same time. Second really bad plots come on space Nazais again and not just for one episode but a whole story arc. Bad time slot as well IRCC it was bounced around a lot.

I don't think Spiner would be that hard to get. I mean, he hasn't exactly been doing a lot since his last appearance in Star Trek.

The series captains are the only ones REALLY out of reach for Cryptic.

For everyone else it's mostly a problem of
    A. Do they have the time to come in and do VA
    B. Do they WANT to come in and do VA

Data would be difficult to get into the game because he is retired from Starfleet, and has spent the last several years as a teacher at Oxford on Earth. He's not like Tuvok who is still out there as an admiral or w/e.

There could be a situation that could require data to help , 7 of 9 isnt in starfleet but we got missions and a queue with her involved because she is a lib borg.

Though data is no longer in starfleet if the need called for his unique talents or abilities im sure he would pitch in and help all he could.

They did something for TNG's 25th anniversary, Worf's season 1 sash for Fed toons, his hair and goatee for KDF, and the title "The Next Generation." I think they should bring those back for the 30th (mostly because I missed out on them lol) and add a little something extra. I like the idea of Robin Hood costumes because it's hilarious, maybe include the title "Not a Merry Man."

Oh! Or a Farpoint space pet! Imagine one of those giant jellyfish following you around.

    According to whom?

Well, given that the game is going on 7 years - and in all the former Star Trek VO talent they've managed get; as yet they've never gotten a Star Trek Captain from a major series to reprise his/her role...

[Hell, it's well known Brent Spiner is all about the money/fee when it comes to any acting gig, and his is quite high too - which is why we haven't seen 'Data' reprised.)

Yeah, I still remember watching the pre-pilot special show they had introducing the NEW! Enterprise and crew.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
