Jeez, why are you even asking now when you know that they always release that information! Have patience young one, paaaaaatiiieeeeeencccccccce!
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Honestly I'm glad they have it you can do it on just one character and the others can get the ship. That is why I missed a couple ships because the grind to do it on multiple toons was no fun.
As for the event, I assume the other stuff will be around like the borg snowmen and the kill like 100 snomen to attack the big one.
There are so many things to do with these events, I kind of wonder what is getting pushed out of the rotation? The PvP race has to stay, likely twice an hour. The Snowconian/village event was just introduced last year and the Snorg were just 2 years ago. Add in the winter Overlord/snowman hunt and something has to give. Perhaps the Overlord is being replaced, guess we'll find out soon enough.
Reading the info, I'd bet it replaces the Overlord, just because it's pretty similar - do something repeatedly around the lake (kill snowmen/catch fish) to summon a big boss in the lake (Overlord/Kos'kari). Guess we'll see...
Also, judging by the one picture, Ugly Winter Sweater is this year's new outfit to buy.
I especially don't like "Fastest Game On Ice"; I seem to always lag in the corners for a split moment...meaning there have been times where it takes me 30 minutes to complete it, either from finishing after the NPC or from accidentally leaving the course.
Huh, that's a shame. I'm glad I don't have that problem with the race, it sounds annoying. Mostly, I just keep from getting tired of it by seeing how well I can catch up to the person racing before me.
I bug out some times, but that's mostly from my internet connection pushing 1.5Mbps... I still manage to finish it within 10 minutes. Either from getting a no-NPC race, or from just learning to take the corners better.
But, when my internet's running clean, I like to do what kiralyn does too, outrun the player in front of me...

Also the description sounds different from neverwinter. They have fixed holes that never move and enemies randomly hop out and attack you. You use buffs and higher quality gear to try and get high bonuses while hopping between holes based on the color of sparks it is giving off. There's no boss fight.
Wait and see... I wouldn't bet that you can punch the hole anywhere you want. But I hope you're right about that. Otherwise we'll have people competing for fishing spots like there is in Neverwinter.
Punching the ice? Why not simply have our gorn brethren body slam it?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
If you click on the calendar in-game right on the banner that says Q's Winter Wonderland, it will open a little window with a description, including start and end times. It lasts until 3 PM EST on January 12th.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
When does the event end? I know it starts 1st Dec but the calender doesn't go past 2016
Edit: need to know if my two weeks at the family is going to potentially cost me a ship heh
It should be easy enough to disown your family.
If you feel that you must spend that much time in purgatory ( ), then you can always bring a laptop with you.
The Summer and Winter Events are 6 weeks (42 days) long. That give players plenty of time to do "Fastest Game On Ice" 25 times to get the necessary 1,000 vouchers to claim the ship.
Ok, so lemme get this straight. Instead of making a special event so that you could get/unlock old special ships/items that you missed (for whatever) reason, you guys decide to go with YET ANOTHER BLOODY lockbox? Who came up with THAT bright idea? I've put a lot of time (AND money) into STO, but you guys are making it harder for a lot of us to stick around every year...

While it shares some similarities it does not require a key, you get to open one for free every day, and can buy more with dilithium and open them and have the chance to get old ships without spending weeks/months/years running to get them. And it also allows players who started after they were gone to get the ships. Sure you can buy some zen and exchange it for dil but from what i hear everyone but me has millions of dilitium to spend.

The purpose is to actually address a different issue... Player's concern about the Dil exchange rate. This little box should help alleviate (for a short time) the issue with the relatively high Dil exchange rate at also concerns Cryptic since it can dissuade F2P player from even trying out the game.
Fewer F2P players means fewer potential players who would be willing to spend real money every once in a while. Additionally, few F2P players means less of a demand to exchange Dil for Zen. The lower the demand for Zen means other players are less willing to purchase Zen with real money and then turn around and sell Zen on the Exchange in return for Dil.

Sorry, and how is the box going to help solving that?
It should drain away some excess Dil that would normal go to the Dil Exchange since many players feel that there is nothing worth spending their Dil on other than for gear upgrades. No "sane" player would purchase the costumes from the Dil store for the prices they are asking for, thus those things are not very good Dil Sinks.
The Phoenix Packs only cost 4,500 Dil which makes them pretty affordable to purchase. But since this will only be available for 1 week it is more of a temporary band aid than an actual solution. The low cost means that even people with very little resources can participate especially since each Phoenix Pack costs less than the daily refinement cap.
An ulterior goal for Cryptic could be to gauge what type this can have on the Dil exchange rate and determine if it can be incorporated into other offers in the future; but that is pure speculation. However, what is not speculation is that Steve Riccosa stated that a high Dil exchange rate is something Cryptic wants to avoid.
If this was actually made part of the R&D Promo Pack from the C-Store, then it would simply be an incentive for people for dump even more Dil into the Dil Exchange which further drives up the exchange rate. One the surface, this seems to be a good way to extract refined Dil from the economy that does not involve the Dil Exchange (unless you need to buy Dil to take advantage of this) and the upgrade system which also requires other resources as well.

does this mean we can get the previous years event ships somehow?

Your statement that I bolded is exactly what I have been saying for a while with the Dilithium exchange: High prices are not good for the f2p model cryptic envisioned when they created the exchange.
The idea for the exchange is to allow players with extra money to spend and want dilithium now to exchange their zen for dilithium, while allowing silver players that don't buy any zen to use their earned refined dilithium in the game exchange to get c-store items that they really want. It's how I got some of the c-store ships I current have.
If PWE wants to help drain some of the excess Dilithium from the Exchange. How about having a 50% off sale for those incredibly expensive but awesome uniforms that were released over the summer? I would really like them for some of my crews, but 2 million DL each is much more than they really should have been. Yes, they look amazing and all, but the price is still an issue.
