That example of the language of
a certain starfaring species some might say served as inspiration for the Hirogen, is literally translated as 'Hard Meat', and refers to an extremely dangerous species otherwise known as the
xenomorphs. To my knowledge, there is nothing like them native to the Trek universe...
...but they
are coming.
And I for one will be interested to see how this plays out. It's not like these folks are strangers to writing
interesting crossovers with Star Trek...
"As interesting as this," one might wonder, "what does this have to do with STO?"
Well, if the relevant folks get together, it could be fodder for a special promotional event. On one tendril, persons purchasing the TPB of this series from IDW's store could get an Arc code that unlocks the
USCM uniform pack; alternatively, there could be an event run (ala CC or MI, but the event itself would take more after Colony Invasion or Mine Trap) with the USCM uniform pack and weapon pack as rewards. After the event, these packs would drift into the Z-store, with a portion of the proceeds going to IDW.
Before delving into the USCM weapon pack details, I would point out that implementing the xenomorphs in STO might be challenging mostly from an animation standpoint... there are plenty of melee-only enemies (most notable for these purposes being those found in the
'Left to Die' foundry mission), and their hazardous blood could be represented by an innate chance to inflict X damage plus DoT on all enemies in melee range when hit, with the odds being significantly higher if the hit comes from a bladed weapon (bat'leths, lirpas, swords).
The USCM weapon pack would consist of three weapons, all of which are readily translatable into STO mechanics, keeping in mind that the pulse rifle and smartgun do kinetic damage:
- M41A pulse rifle: similar to the MACO/KHG PWAs, except it uses the 'full-auto' (i.e. short-burst) primary,
- M56 smartgun: mechanically identical to the plasma autopistol or piercing beam rifle (the latter is horribly misnamed, seeing as it fires bolts on true full-auto). Note: while it is held similarly to the existing 'assault' weapons, its model and animations would have to take its gyrostabilization arm into account. Like the
- M240 flamethrower: a mirror to the plasma flamethrower requisitionable from New Romulus, except it's a rifle as opposed to an 'assault' weapon, and does regular fire damage, not plasma.
Comments
Unfortunately, it would have to be okayed by CBS and Ridley Scott for STO to possibly use this, which isn't likely to happen.
"Working... Complete... All life forms identified as Xenomorph have now been transported 200 metres off the port bow."
"Picard to Worf, target those creatures with main phasers."
"Targets destroyed Captain."
"Thank goodness we weren't trapped on an old mining ship with no transporters Number One, it might have taken longer than 2 minutes to deal with them."

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

hell, the only time i've ever seen ANYONE in star trek do something like that was with grigari in The Fallen, and you had to get dangerously close to them to tag them for a beam-out

A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch."
"We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Because there's never been an attack by savage monsters. It's not like fighting humanoids where you go phaser to phaser with them possibly due to transport inhibitors or something or just wanting to non-lethality deal with them. You're fighting animals not beings.

^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...
Having the Hirogen and Predators seems too redundant. The Hirogen are Star Trek's interpretation of Predators. Having the Yautja deal with races like the Jem'Hadar and Klingons would be more interesting since they don't have the same MO as Predators.
Hm... it WOULD be interesting to see how Jem'hadar and/or 'hunters' (DS9: "The Hunted") against Yautja would turn out, especially considering both sides have a form of personal cloaking devices...
