Standard-issue kit frames replaced by blank items

Holodeck ticket 4,129,904 (submitted on 10/25/2016)

The morning before the patch to Holodeck on October 25, 2016, I noticed that several characters that I had transferred over to Tribble had blank items in their bank or inventory. By comparing my bank and inventory on Holodeck and Tribble, I was able to determine that the following kit frames were replaced by blank items:

[Tactical Kit - Standard Issue] (comes with one assault module slot)
[Science Kit - Standard Issue] (comes with one medic module slot)
[Science Kit - Standard Issue] (23rd-century version, comes with one science module slot)

Note that I no longer have these kit frames on Holodeck, because I discarded them before the patch. Some of my characters still have them on Tribble, however. I suspect that this bug affects all standard-issue kit frames, including the 23rd-century ones.

Steps to reproduce

1. Install the following build:

Version: ST.64.20160709a.39
SVN build number: 200840
Holodeck patch date: October 19, 2016
- six days before "Agents of Yesterday: Artifacts"

2. Start the STO client.
3. Log on to a tactical officer and place the following kit frame in the bank or inventory:

[Tactical Kit - Standard Issue] (comes with one assault module slot)

4. Log on to a science officer and place the following kit frame in the bank or inventory:

[Science Kit - Standard Issue] (comes with one medic module slot)

5. Log on to a 23rd-century science officer and place the following kit frame in the bank or inventory:

[Science Kit - Standard Issue] (23rd-century version, comes with one science module slot)

6. Exit the STO client.
7. Install the following build:

Version: ST.66.20161016a.7
SVN build number: 201656
Holodeck patch date: October 25, 2016
- "Agents of Yesterday: Artifacts", day of release

8. Start the STO client.
9. Log on to the same characters as before and verify that your kit frames have been replaced by blank items.

NOTE: The steps above include only those kit frames that I'm sure are broken. You should probably check all standard-issue kit frames.

    you think that's bad? listen to this:

    I had a non-modular UR [Romulan Engineering Kit - Fabrication Specialist Mk XII] that I have used for quite a while. today I am doing the FE and when I got to use my turrets, I discover that not only are they not there any longer, I wasn't even issued the kit mods for them items that it had. SO I have a UR rom kit with no mods my other old style kits seem unaffected by this tho.

    my other two kits also have no mods on them anymore
    VR [Fabrication Specialist Mk X]
    VR [Enemy Neutralization Mk X]
    Star Treking, across the universe. Only going forward because we can't find reverse...

    I had a similar kit to the poster above slotted - I now no longer have it; instead, I have an empty slot for a kit frame, only I can't slot a replacement! (Selecting a kit frame from inventory and clicking "equip" has no effect; double-clicking the empty slot to open up the available replacements... just gets me an empty window with "Can't remove item from this slot" in the middle of it.)

    My guess is that the system thinks the kit is still there, but is somehow unable to recognize it, and hence can't do anything with it - not even remove it.

    (I also found all my currently slotted modules had vanished, but switching maps a few times made them pop back up in inventory.)

    Try changing the instance of the MAP your on then try adding the Kit module back from your Inventory. Most kit modules reappear after checking what needs upgrading within a few minutes, and the majority of other issues are resolved by changing the instance of the map your on.

    I tried all the suggestions, relloging, beaming between ground and space, /lootcancel command. Nothing works. I am not missing the kit. I just cannot equip any kits. Its like there was some blank item in kit slot.

    yep same here on my Rom toon. Can't equip any kits because the slot has a blank item in it.

    STILL non solved after 3/11 (and actually on 21/11 the bug present)
    Also, starter kit frames won't appear and won't release the stuck slot, it seems, no matter what you do, until it will be fixed by devs.


    Adding: starter 23c Engineer, Starter 23c Science confirmed on my two AoY level 60 characters too, on bank slot. (another unknown low level Eng kit frame possibly starter one (and not any holdings'/romulan) affects a low level non AoY Eng too on kit frame slot.) reported to support regarding those characters when I had the relevant information. It's possible those kit frames were not having any passives, I think. And like ruinthefun said, (the low) item is non discard-able (or sale-able)

    Note that, as others reported already, any of inventory/bank/KIT FRAME slot may be affected and totally disabled depends on where the (stuck, blackened) affected degenerated kit frame was placed on 25/10.

    Sorry for posting it in various places but wasn't sure where I should put this info for it to be seen and got a "hint" it's good to post this on forum. Support is aware of this issue as being present after 3/11.

    I was just thinking now - what happens to new chars made after the kit revamp?

    Do they get other starter kit frames?
    If not, do they suffer a kit frame blackening/degeneration and disabled slot related issue?

    Sorry, as silly and basic as it might sound like, I can't test it so adding this note, as maybe others know already (likely) or want to test.

    This question does NOT negate, by any result in case such a test was done, the validity and existence of the reported bug above. THE BUG REPORTER BY THE OP EXISTS AS OF NOW (let alone after the 3/11 patch) and may affect kit frame slot/bank slot or an inventory slot as said above.

    Edit 25/11: I was told this doesn't affect newly created characters after the artifact patch. This is good.
    However, to clarify, the issue presented is CRITICAL in my opinion and STILL ACTIVE (and in my case, affecting all my chars which were affected initially) and so I hope the reports on it are found and that it will be finally fixed eventually. Not seeing it as a known issue (after it was added and then removed without being fixed) is not very assuring.

    Having the same issue with the [Tactical Kit - Standard Issue] with my character Vias Lex@alexisvalarr

    My kit frame slot is completely unusable.

    I attempted to submit a bug report (ticket ID #4,174,949) but for whatever reason I can't seem to bring the report back up.

    I'm having the same problem on one of my characters. Alane@delindan. Since the patch the kit frame slot is unusable. Im pretty sure she still had the frame from the tutorial equipped.

    I am having the same problem with my kits. And when I tried to report the bug in-game (twice), it told me it created a ticket ID, but there is no record of it when I go to check my support tickets. It is as though that reporting tool is broken and isn't connected to anything.

    I have exact same kit/unremovable-blank-box problem since October patch with science starter kit. There are several threads on here and steam with the same issue. Still no response from dev and no fix. This is what we get for lifetime subs? Unreal.

    I'll add my bug here: My temporal recruit, made in the last hours of that event, and not played between then and Jan 1, has the 23c. Tactical starter kit affected by this bug.

    Looks like this issue finally got fixed today. It did for my character at least.

    I would like to take a moment to enthusiastically thank all the developers involved. I am very grateful to have my character back to full functionality.

    If I could offer some criticism, however, it would have been nice to know that the issue was being worked on. As far as I could tell in the 3 months I've been dealing with this problem there was never any kind of official acknowledgement of the bug or assurance that it was being addressed. It left me feeling very ignored and frustrated.

    Thanks again for fixing this issue.

    Unfortunately, it's only half-fixed; or rather, a related problem still exists. 23c. Kit Modules that were upgraded from white when acquired in the 23rd Century to green/blue/purple/violet in the 25th are still failing to appear in the powers tray when one attempts to slot them.

    Logged into a Level 3 Character that I had that was used for opening Weapons crates. I decided to get her up to Level 5 so that I could unlock the Winter Event Store. The Kit is blank and cannot be removed. The Character is a Human (NOT TOS) Engineer.

    That Character was created before AoY released.

    Sorry to hear. I have to report that my science starter kit HAS FINALLY been fixed, no more blank unremovable items. I too would have liked to have known that the issue was/is being worked on, nevertheless I would like to thank devs for getting my problem sorted out.

    This specific issue of kit frame non converted was fixed for all my three affected chars (2 AoY Sci&Eng, 1 non AoY Eng Fed old ferengi alt from before revamp, allegedly starter kit issue for those all (surely for the AoYs)), thank you very much! I appreciate that *

    I do understand the issue was NOT fixed for all even if fixed for me, and so, leaving this clear note to not mislead.

    *(I do have still another issue since the expansion of an upgraded 23c Eng starter blue XIII module above level V which can not be "hotbarred" but this is probably a different issue mentioned here as it may be related to the revamp/kit upgrade-ability (and level IV-V maybe) too. Same (old) issue as mentioned above by turbomagnus . As noted I am also aware the original kit frame issue was not solved for some.)

    There is something I forgot and just recalled/realized could be the issue. @Ltminns you mentioned trying to (level in order to) unlock winter store, I assume this means you referred to the time before maintenance? If yes, did you try to log to that char again after last maintenance of the 12th of Jan (and wait on ground/change map or do other things which may cause an update just in case)? Note that for my affected Eng non AoY Fed it took long to do that first login and took a bit more to update but it finally did after the maintenance and that ground map wait. Due to some "lag"/first login load issue possibly I couldn't even move/change map but eventually Eng Kit Mk I [Kpref] (3.4) appeared on kit frame slot, the same one as for my AoY's though for them it was on a bank slot, only slower.

    Sorry if I asked/stated the obvious or am way off, just trying to help in case this is the point.
