Strangely I didn't have a problem with this update at all. I played it on both Windows 8 and Windows 10 with one and two (SLI) 1070. Though this is over DisplayPort if that makes any difference at all.
All it did for me the first time when the game state went from old to updated was reset my graphics settings. But I never had to tinker with the renderscale thing, the wierd mirage images and that wierd glow.
And even when I went to a fresh install of Windows 10 I just copied my STO game folder over and the settings were already preset (in some config file, I presume). No issues there either.
Same here, I did the /renderscale 1 because things didn't look quite right, but other then that I had no issues with the new graphics update. I believe it had more of an adverse effect on people that were previously running under the DX9 settings.

Well...I am finding it is my MONITOR that is maladjusted.

Well, I finally got this Lighting 2.0 to work the way Cryptic intended. Running AMD stuff and older AMD stuff at that.
System: HP Pavilion 17 using AMD A10-5750M APU w/AMD Radeon HD 8650G GPU.
(told Y'all my laptop was coal-fired and steam-powered, lol. But it mostly gets used for work so it is more than adequate.)
Had all kinds of problems with stuttering, over brightness and all the other things people have complained aboout. After a very frustrating afternoon where I could not play STO at all, (that 5FPS framerate is a killer), I restarted my computer, logged into STO and promptly reset all the settings to Default. I then went through all the settings one at a time until I got what I wanted. I tend to prefer performance over looks ingame. I do try to get the settings up as far as they will go.

This makes me inclined to ask if everyone having these issues is possibly running AMD hardware? I am not saying that AMD is bad but I am wondering if it is possibly also driver related (to some extent)?

Intel here. That may or may not be responsible for the crash I reported above - Intel isn't exactly renowned for proper graphics implementations (at least in OpenGL, not sure about DirectX).
Edit: I did check for and install new drivers, though. That might solve the issue, I'll know more definitively after I've played a bit again.
Fatal Error: Direct3D driver returned error code

Re-re-edit: Turned it off and switched to DX9. I have neither the time nor the patience to figure out which of a million factors is causing this nonsense or even if it's fixable, and while the new lighting is beautiful, it's not worth the constant crashing. One thing that might help, though, is that it seems to trigger almost reliably in Echoes of Light, when doing the first objective on the planet surface.

Re-edit: Yeah... driver update didn't do a thing.
