If Cryptic were real smart they would have a separate server for the 23rd century instead of bothering with all this console nonsense.

If by "smart", you mean "unwise"..then yeah, that. Nothing says, "kill this game" like splitting the player base across two servers and into two distinct games. Consoles were to add to increase the player base.

Actually consoles are a new revenue stream, not an increase to the existing playerbase as the console versions are separate. Until we're all playing on the same server, hardware agnostic, this is a split playerbase.

Though I do understand what you're saying about splitting the existing PC playerbase and that's a potential problem. Ideally we'd see the 23rd century as a full faction with a complete set of unique content that only crosses over with the rest of the playerbase for major storylines but they don't have the staff right now to support such a thing.

I think that last is the 800 lb. Mugatu in the room. What there was in AoY was rather good, but what it lack speaks volumes to the lack of staff working on this MMO.

Companies say "NEVER" a lot... and then change their minds. In Warcraft alone there are:

    1. People on both sides on a PvP server...they said NEVER and now WoW has it.
    2. Race changes...they said NEVER and now WoW has it.
    3. Faction changes...they said NEVER and now WoW has it.
    4. Barbershop (plastic surgery clinics)...they said NEVER and now WoW has it.

There are other Warcraft-specific things also that Blizzard said NEVER to. Companies should stop using that word.

Forget Blizzard. How many years did we hear that an endgame level TOS Connie would never happen?

With that said, I highly doubt Cryptic will ever turn the 23c into a social hub.

Except it wasn't Cryptic that said TOS Connie would never happen. They said it was up to CBS. The players said it would never happen.

I don't think they will ever turn the 23c into a social hub, either. It would fly completely counter to the storyline of responsible use of time travel.

your obviously missing the comment where I said "it has been categorically stated by cryptic that none of the 23c mission maps or ESD and sector space will ever be used in any future missions".

As with Drake, I'm curious as to what your source for this assertion is. I've been following the game news fairly closely and I've never seen something like that said. It's entirely possible that I missed it somewhere, but as the saying goes -- you are the one who has been repeatedly making this claim, so the burden of proof falls upon you.

At least in general principal, it has been my observation that especially in genres such as MMOs that it is quite commonplace for devs to make use of previous work with new stuff added to make new content while cutting down on the coding workload. In the case where they have a customer base that is literally begging them for opportunities to return to the 23rd Century environment that they put so much work into creating, it would seem to be a no-brainer that it would be an easy call for them to make at some future point. Their customers would get something requested and they would already have much of the ground work done for the setting for new missions.

No I'm just calling BS on that statement until I see the official source. Because I've not seen it at all. I'll admit I don't follow podcasts much so its possible it was said, but until someone pulls that link out of their posterior as proof....

as you force my hand I will quote from here as one of the many places I have seen similar statements, if this is not enough for you then nothing ever will be.

Interview: Cryptic on the launch of Star Trek Online’s Agents of Yesterday

    http://massivelyop.com/2016/07/06/interview-cryptic-on-the-launch-of-star-trek-onlines-agents-of-yesterday/

Stephen Ricossa: Quote: "By the end of the 23rd-century experience in Agents of Yesterday, your ship and crew are lost, and you won’t be going back. You are lost in time forever."

That's just a description of the plot events that happen in AoY to your 23rd century character. Nowhere does it say that they will never use those maps again for any reason or find some other reason to send characters there. You made that part up.

I would be interested to see exactly the amount of divide a separate 23rd century server would produce and which if either becomes a ghost town.
  • kodachikunokodachikuno Member Posts: 6,020 Arc User1
doubt either would be a ghost town. I'd play both servers myself but I expect the 23c one would be the weaker of the two but with a much better community

Hard to say, but my money would be on the 23rd century server however given how few of the AoY ships (skinned as 23rd century ships) I see running around.

A painful thing for a TOS fan like myself to admit. Kids these days have no respect.

True that. Less players on the 23c server for sure.....but probably better PVE ques, and RP, and WAY better social zones bc players wouldn't NOT log onto zone chat for fear of all the really annoying people. I imagine a 23c server would be like a giant online Star Trek convention.......yah.....

I've been playing my 23c Captain, and I really would rather stay in the 23c zone. However, there are only the four missions (Edren, Deneva, Babel, Tholians) that can be played. It gets a little tiresome playing the same four missions over and over. I'd love to have other things to do. SO, I have some suggestions.

    1. Some sort of random mission area (like the "exploration" areas of old), that would create basic random missions.
    2. Let us visit Vulcan and Andoria. There doesn't even have to be anything to DO there, just let us beam down (even better if we can take BOs).
    3. Same thing with Sierra Station.
    4. We need manuals for all 23c skills. As it is, I can't train my Chief Engineer in the 23c version of Engineering Team.
    5. Give us a way to upgrade our BO quality. At present, the only 23c BOs are basic quality. I would like them to get better.
    6. Duty officers and missions. It would be nice to have some basic DOs and some missions to do in the 23c zone.
    7. Some way to upgrade our 23c ships would be nice. I'm still flying my Pioneer class, and don't plan on flying anything else.
    8. Captain's Quarters in the Pioneer interior. Oh, and can we get the crew sitting on their chairs properly?
    9. Actually, I'd love to see the Pioneer and Constitution interiors remade. They're not up to snuff, and Taco's work on the Intrepid rocks.
    10. The ship's scanner effect is that huge ugly blue cone. Perhaps that could be changed to resemble the sensor pulsing effect seen in Trials and Tribblations (DS9 - a pulse of "sonar" rings around the ship, then a pulse of waves out the front).

I may add more if I think of anything.
I encourage the community to add ideas. I'll add those to the list too.

Might those be perhaps now in the new holding?

its simple, someone was wrote something good, it seems its not from this thread, but its about other tos-non leaving tho, it would be more simplier then to get TOS unique doffs unlock, more ships for TOS toons, and colonisation cluster chain and sector alerts which includes romulan/klingon and minor encounters with Kyzinti and gorns.

Also to unlock foundry creation, so people who don't want to leave, never finish Caleb and just play TOS map, as there would be more content to do, also allow to join fleet and maybe to unlock vulcan and andoria

so it looks like you have got your wish a new story line for the "agents of yesterday" called "Agents of Yesterday – Artifacts".
pity as I have said before the story line is directed to all factions and will most likely be slotted after the "Future proof" story arc so you would need to complete all the missions up to that point to play it and that means leaving the 23rd century behind.

lets put this to bed right now, this will never happen as all of the many players including myself who have left the 23c behind and cant return would be up in arms about being excluded from playing this content.
you must realise at the end of the day cryptic cater for the masses and as the masses have moved on cryptic are not going to pander to the wants of the few who refuse to play the game as intended.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Small communities can fester something bad. Look what happened to Champions.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

I have to agree it would be great if we could revisit the 23rd century map. It was very enjoyable and seems a pity that its use is so limited.

since that's not going to happen just be thankful they have given you the k-13 fleet holding, at least you can go there and roleplay plus judging by the walk through on you tube pick up some pretty awesome 23c kit.
granted the use of the 23c maps has limited use but then so is quite a lot of stuff in the game.
how many of the 100 or so missions that you play through while levelling and beyond do you play more then once with the same character, this is all content that took a very very long time to create for the most part will just to be played once per character and never again, it took a whole lot longer to create those 100+ missions then it took to create the tos missions and sector space but baring the very occasional mission replay event most of them are only ever played once.
