none in my group had success shutting down the portals, i tried and i got instantly get hit, it seem we all get interupted way too much.
it seem we had over 200 ships destroyed. i never seen that many.
In any group I ever played on any difficulty, we've only ever closed all the portals in time and protected the enterprise on all phases ONLY ONE TIME EVER
The actual main problem is the krenim frigates, they have this huge, enormous aoe that keeps pumping out damage around them so you can never take the portal down until essentially everything is dead
so you kill the frigate, good job, ANOTHER ONE IMMEDIATELY APPEARS TO TAKE ITS PLACE AND THE VERY FIRST THING IT DOES IS TURN ON IT'S AOE, and you're sitting there like F'ing Really?
I really have to disagree on it being that hard tough yes but not as bad as you make it to be. There are a lot of factors to consoder why you had such an epic fail. Was this a PUG? If so you can get a group that has it's act together and knock them off pretty quick or a derp group that is clueless. Were they t-5 and up ships unfortunatly thier are folks who are high enough in rank to do this mission but still are tooling around in t-4 and lower and geared with less then lvl 12's. Did they go running off instead of acting as a group? If you have ships running off solo after the spawns instead of knocking them off yeah and closing the portals? Did they cluster around the J? You can pretty much ignore that as it's not mission fail if you dont protect it you only lose a few bonus points but over protecting it will hurt the team and causes a fail. Was it a frontal assualt try an end around and close the portal from behind. It's not that hard a mission if people pay attention to the hail it pretty much tells you exactly what you need to do.
This is a perfect example of people not knowning what to do when OMGDEEPS!!!! isn't the whole answer.
One person has to take one for the team and keep his ePeen in his pants and close portals, while the other four grab aggro with OMGDEEPS!!!!!!!, attract fire, and/or threatening stance. That simple.
Since I'm one of the three people who plays a tank and healer in PUGs (sarcasm warning) you're possibly screwed on Enterprise having high health at the end.
"I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am."
I find the trick to doing it is to quip the Temporal insight trait (provided you ran at least one delta recruit) and use the Rom rep active power, if you time it right each of these abilities gives you a long enough window to close a portal.
It is pretty much hell though with a poor team, there have been times when I haven't used an ability or fired a shot and still drawn agro sitting on portals while four people are spamming FAW and still not killing things.
The attack pattern buff and exotic damage abilities from Pilot & Temporal Op. specialisation trees work quite well too (the ones that give you temporary hit points).
What I do is fly to the portal, hit APB, get the temp points, and then close the portal. This prevents the interrupt (usually) long enough to shut the portal. I've not tried this on Elite but works for me on Advanced quite nicely
My experience is limited to "pugs," but in that limited experience, the objectives are best served by everyone staying in ONE group, concentrating fire and closing ONE portal at a time. The faster you do this, the better for the Enterprise.
Most pugs I've done this on, one member leaves when the going gets tough, causing others to leave, which leads to a fail when only 2 or 3 of us are left in the end.
In other online games (pvp) pug/solo queuing random people actually use voice chat or type to organize the match and plays to great success.
STO pugs on the other hand will still struggle even with ISA optionals unless a few are around with half decent DPS to ignore almost all strategy and just destroy everything in range quickly enough.
Oh this STF. I gave up on it along about the first day is was released. I went in, figured out the strats, tried to direct groups on what to do. This is generally why I just stay away form space STFs in general. It boils down to, to much pew, not enough think. The trend in space stfs that's been running since the introduction of the reputation system. For this though, the old 2/3 strat from The Cure Found would probably work. 2 guarding, 3 attacking and closing portals. Of course this requires team work. Something that is dying in STO much like PvP.
Stealth, placate, or brute force it with temporary hp. If you are pugging these are your options because you should assume that you will be the only one closing portals or managing aggro.
My issue with this STF is that you take 1 point of hull damage and you stop closing the portal.
1. Temporary hp aren't hull points. Attack pattern doff gives you some. There are other sources. Pump defense so the points don't get shot off so quickly. I use this with the devidian device and that alone gets me about, idk, 80% efficiency when I have aggro.
2. Intelligence team if you have it completely solves this mission. Seriously.
3. Pilot rear arc placate is a little less convenient but works with stupid flying. Normally zip around the spawning ships to try to avoid notice as much as possible. With this one you fly straight through the pack and just past the portal so they're lined up in the rear.
I wonder how good old MES would work? Probably perfectly. Jam, scramble, -perception, the list goes on.
This is a rogue's dream mission. We think of stealth games too often as a lone wolf sneaking in the shadows. Rogues from that old crusty tabletop genre got all kinds of bonuses for attacking someone who was already engaged; for being sneaky in the middle of chaos. At Procyon, the solar system is literally coming apart and starships are blowing up everywhere and local space has devolved into scrums. Into that the rogue- I mean intelligence operative- unassumingly goes about his mission, ensuring that anybody who takes notice does not do so for long.

Try parking IN the portal, or going very slowly through as you close it. If you are in it, there seems to be enough interference to prevent you being hit.
I have been annoyed at this mission a few times, too, but it really is possible. First, you got your ship, you got your role, agreed, but look what others do. If nobody closes portals, it's your job, regardless of what you expect to do in a perfect team. If you want to close them, you have to avoid damage - do not draw any aggro, disengage from any combat or CC activity, get some way of bonus hull like Attack Pattern Expertise, really park there and close them, if the first time round it doesn't work, do it a second time. Or a third. In due time it will close. Show patience.
Sure, you'll not be getting a lot of XP when you're shutting down all of the portals all by yourself that way, but the mission can be done.
(And I'll second the remark about some of the epeeners having no clue what to do when vaping alone doesn't work. Plus a couple of people who only get into combat although not being outfitted at all for it)
My mother was an epohh and my father smelled of tulaberries
I've never done this one before, so I was wondering - is it like in the mirror event where science ships have an easier time closing the portals? 'Cause that's what I do in the mirror event; I just use my Intrepid and go around closing portals so they won't pile up too quickly and we won't get too mobbed.
Yet another "blah blah enemy is too hard" whine thread? God it is fun being a non- parser vaping these npcs these threads are about.
It's sad Anton died. But having a whiny little self absorbed better than everyone else brat spamming every single thread with the same too good for anyone else TRIBBLE, just makes me hate Antons face........
just not too powerful, but getting interuptions by trying to close it, then it get too many.
it was my first run, i noticed that group i was in went seperate ways and just shooting ships, i would had bail out and find better group that knows what to do and communicate if there was first timers.
there was no commnication, i saw 1 player bail out and get someone else jump in replacing.
i guess they are firsttimers or just ship farming?
i dont know.
there are so many new ships on zen/c-shop/lobi shop and i guess they were leveling up?
my questions were, are those Battle of Polcyon V and Blood here to stay or part of mirror event?
We had a lot of runs in the Science Channel and found the best solution is one tank per side and a portal closer per side. That way hopefully the aggro can be controlled enough to let the portal closers shut 3 each. Then have someone tank for the J to keep it safe.
Of course in pugs that's hard to organize but do people even bother trying these days to use chat? I mean it's worth a shot to say hi and say what you plan to do. Alternatively just pay attention to the rest of the players and if you see someone tanking, sneak in to close a portal. Or if you see someone in need of a tank, get stuck in!
The Krenim at phase 2 are the worst as their spam abilities are really annoying. We always find that the toughest phase to get the optional on, but we mostly run if on elite.
lol, dps? i am tactican, using my newly aquired T6 Heavy destroyer fed fleet escort manicore class, with mark 12 and some mark 13 upgrades, all antiprotons and heavy torp in afts. real nice turn rate manuvering, it is cannon-torp built.
i am learning, loaded with some orange grade consoles. 1 hit on hostile ship, went from 100% to 50% on first wave on those fridgate ships, but cruisers and dreadnaughts are bit rougher to kill.
once hit, then turn 180 and blast with torps, and shift back to frontal assault again to finish off.
this ship is becoming my new fav, next to my ferengi N'adu drain ship. (excuse my spelling)
