Original Faction ships to the lotto system - concerning?

Are you concerned that the original Faction ships are being put into the rng gambling pay wall?
With the TOS ships going into the very rare lotto of the r and D packs instead of the cstore, is this a concern for you?

Exactly. Cryptic/PWE would probably have loved to be selling T5 and then T6 connies for the last 4 years straight if they could.
As someone else guessed in another thread, this was probably tied to contract renewal talks for adding the X1 and PS4. Extend the license past 2018, add Kelvin ships in a gamblebox, add the Connie in a gamblebox.
I'd wager the ones fine with it likely can afford the ship in one form or another....

But that's even more of a reason to why they would say yes this time to a t6 Connie. I agree with @rattler2. I'm not with the "I'd rather have nothing" crowd.
I'm all for getting more ships in the game for people that want them, some are more exclusive, like the promos, others, are easy to aquire, like the c-store ones, so i dont see the problem, the only thing i see is a bussines doing bussines... because, you know, they have to earn money, and this is a great move.
If i want an specific ship, i'll buy it... be Exchange, lobi or whatever, as they are not doing me a favor, and BTW, they give away a lot more than many MMO's out there, so, i'm ok with it, and i think that this was the only way to get the license to reléase the ship to the public, or they would have done it waaaay before.
You could always sell the packs if you don't want the R&D materials. They sell for somewhere between 12 and 16m. (This might vary even more since t6 Connie is possibly the most sought after ship ever. Hard to pinpoint how much this specific promo pack will be on the exchange. We'll see when we get there.) Don't open them if you don't want to take the risk. I would advise anyone to open them only if you want the R&D materials. Obviously you need to sell tons of zen's worth of promo packs, but you'd be surprised how fast ec starts to pile up if you farm it AND sell lots of packs.

Yeah, that's what I meant. To sell the packs if someone doesn't want to open them for the materials. I'll edit my post.

My dream of having a T6 K't'inga may be shattered, but there is still a chance for the JJ Klingon "Warbird". At least if it shows in a lockbox, I'll have a much better chance at getting one.
Would still like to see a T6 ship that has the K't'inga or "Warbird" skin in the C-Store though.

I don't think it will. For years we have been denied an Endgame Connie by CBS, the IP holders themselves. It is entirely possible that their stance hasn't changed. They just loosened up because guess what's coming up next month? 50th Anniversary of Star Trek. So to celebrate... give us engame trifecta of TOS... on one condition. They are not account unlock C-Store ships. So... we got R&D Promo.
After this we'll probably go back to alien design ships.
This way... the IP Holders are happy, Cryptic is happy, and... most of the playerbase is happy. Relatively speaking.

Second, if this meets or exceeds expectations, what does that mean for the future of ships in the C-Store? Will other highly demanded ships like the T6 Sovereign not be offered in the C-Store and be promo only? I don't have a problem with just these T6 ships being promo only; that just means I'll be only picking up the Connie for my TOS toon (eventually) instead of all three. It's what's happening behind the scenes I'm finding worrisome.

I am not so enamored with the Star Trek IP that I feel the TOS Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser is a must have for me. Would I buy it if it was in the C-Store? Perhaps, but there are other ships available. Flying around in that ship does not make the game more "Star Trekkie" to me.
If I want them bad enough I'll just use EC and buy them off the exchange. No gambling needed.
It's also the 20th anniversary of Star Trek: First Contact in November.
