So it's ten years before Kirk, the lead character is a woman and not the commanding officer, there's a TRIBBLE character and Fuller loves Spock's mother? Okay...

I like TOS era, and I'm interested in where they're going with this... but, shave off another 20 years, and you could've had a show that services both the Prime and Kelvin Timelines.
Oh, well, onward. I wonder how they'll handle the aesthetics of the show, and how they'll lead into the 60s cheese...

What events do we actually know about from this particular time period?
Things that have been mentioned, but not actually shown in any of the series...
I think it's time to brush-up on my Google-fu.
And whip out the Trek Chronology Book.

The Sheliak negotiations happened in 2255. That's about it. Everything else around that point directly involved the TOS crew.
It may in a slightly different way. Fuller has suggested he may bring in Kelvin Timeline actors to playing their character's Prime Timeline counterparts. It's not quite the same, but does give them a way to take advantage of it without actually touching the movie stuff.
Will be interesting to see the aesthetics though, especially any Klingons.

So, they haven't cast her. But she's going to be diverse. Hard-hitting stuff.
Fleet Admiral In charge of Bacon
Fighting 5th Attack Squadron
The Devils Henchman
There's nothing obviously there.
Noting that Kirk would be at the Academy at this time, it could possibly be the legendary Battle of Axanar, a victory that apparently kept the Federation from falling apart. Would certainly seem a plausible option.

The Cage is 2254, so this is one year after.
Same here, its PPV. So no watching it.

Fleet Admiral Stowe - Dominion War Vet.
It should be. So if we to see any Connies, it should look like the one from the Cage.
It would be good to see more stuff from the Cage time period.

Hm... There are several minor things involving the TOS crew such as Kirk graduating from the academy and making a lady friend on a primitive world on an early away mission, McCoy making some medical procedure, and the events of "The Cage" pilot episode.
Outside of the TOS crew there are only a few things that got mentioned around that time period, such as the Sheliak treaty and a DS9 episode that referenced an entire star system being destroyed in a disaster... but those were TNG and DS9 references.
Hard to think what referenced event they would be going with... unless it is something weird like focusing on a minor side character like Carol Marcus or something.
(a very big event for both sides)
So the style of the ship and the music from the last teaser, could possibly indicate that this particular show is going to focus on that part of the Fed/Klink historical relations.
There's a ton of possibilities that they could go with if that is indeed the major driving force of the series.

It's possible to modernize the TOS aesthetics with holographic displays and such without having to completely change the artstyle. If they could understand that I'd be a happy Targ. If they feel the need to retcon the TRIBBLE out of everything to somehow fit what they want to tell they shouldn't have decided on making another prequel. Aside from ENT playing in a post-FC influenced reality they could somehow get away with radically changed visuals by placing it a century before TOS. Now it's ten years - I hope they realize that means they have to stick to some of the rules.

You ever saw the TOS - Remastered? They did well to bring TOS up to date with newer graphics. I been meaning to buy the DVD series to see it. After seeing pics of what they did. They added lights, engine exhaust glow, better looking weapons fx, etc.

You can do it TOS style with good graphics that is current.

I have the re-mastered version, and I felt they did a great job "updating" much of the effects while still keeping the feel of the original style. Besides, as clunky as the original effects are compared to nowadays, they were at least a tad better than the competition of the time: Lost In Space and Gerry Anderson.
That's not the question. Of course they can do that, but retconning everything doesn't sit well with a sense of coherency. Whatever they do is of course canon but that doesn't mean their decisions are good or coherent.
