Kills me that DS-9 is a ghost town. I remember three years ago when the borg STF store was there. It was a hopping social zone. Poor Roxy, just a desk jockey in a tourist information kiosk. She was once the "tools of mass murder" genie.
Try a good Fleet. Some I'm in are running Ques all the time. Even the older ones. As something to do. Even myself got into 1-2 to see what they are like.

Yep, this is something I lamented from day one when they introduced Omega Reputation.
I find that the reputation system has trivialized vendors and locations like crazy. Sure is convenient, but it also isolates players more IMO with their own private little shops and all.
It will never happen because players kick and scream whenever they are taken out of their little bubble, but I wouldn't mind seeing the reputation stores and item projects shut down and moved to on-site vendors at places like DS9, Dyson Sphere Joint Command, Jenolan sphere, etc.

i can totally understand your replies, i just think it is funny, they broke the queues a long time ago (was it pre-Delta rising?) and the queues just died, before then the queues were very populated, then they fixed them and made them playable again, but it just seems like the queues never recovered, or is it just me?
They nerfed the Dil rewards and the way they did it was so...unbecoming.
Hence, the queue activity waned.
I don't think "fixed" is the term I would use.

People run queues in other games in order to obtain that special piece of gear you can't get anywhere else. Since this is unnecessary in STO people only play them when they're new or offer unusually high amounts of marks as reward.
There would be an easy fix. Create new space and ground sets and put them in as random rewards to a specific queue. For example:
- Borg space queues: offer random chance to drop the mk xiv ultra rare engine of set x (1/4)
- Undine space queues: offer random chance to drop the mk xiv ultra rare shield of set x (2/4)
- Terran space queues:: offer random chance to drop the mk xiv ultra rare warp core/singularity core of set x (3/4)
- ..and so on
The same could be implemented for ground queues. If the set's stats are good enough people will want them, even if they have to play 100 queues to get one piece of gear. I know this is what the Borg queues used to do but there were no real alternatives to Borg gear back then. Now we have all the reputation gear for people who don't like random drop chances.
Bottom line though, is there isnt as many of us still playiong the game. I could probably imagine a thousand different reasons for WHY people arent playing them any more, like the lack of attention to fixing bugs and the introduction of new glitches in old missions, but mostly i can only speculate. STO is an old game. Its not new and shiny any more. people like new and shiny. They move on.. For those of us that love it, who take their friends rolled eyes and sarcasm with a sigh and a smirk; who live in this game, its just a matter of evolution.

while they can be done solo, you still Need Team members to STARt it.
ie: Team up with Players, start the game and they leave...and it's too complicated.
While this is a nice challenge for ISA and others, some Queues will just never start - like federation minefield. And as it's a "beginners Mission" you can't ask elite channels. On the other Hand, I find that one gives good rewards for Top Player - and I used to see that as a way to make EC...but a non starting Mission doesn't make EC...

Ironically, the missions ostensibly designed for 20 people CAN be started solo in private queues. Whereas the ones that say 5 can't.

Actually they are designed for "up to" 20 people.
Originally they were open instances where players could come and go at any time until someone got the bright idea to turn them into queues.
Basically think Ker'rat but without the PvP.
I miss the open-door-policy instances.

Some of them are fun others are not. People like blowing stuff up, not stfs that send you from point A to B to do tasks during them. Some of them need fixing badly, like the ones with portals you have to close, which are very hit and miss whether it works or not, or having a DoT on you that prevents you performing an action. Also some of the stfs are not balanced. Advanced might mean easy (take less time) for one stf while being harder on another (takes about double or more of the time), but the rewards are the same.
However the biggest reason the queues are nothing like they were is because a lot of people stopped playing them when Cryptic decided to give everything x100 health and shields way before you could up upgrade equipment, and messed around with stfs rewards so some of them weren't worth your time. Also a bunch of people left after a lot of pretty bad decisions in a row by Cryptic like literally taking stuff back from some people who were farming patrols (that is why they are on a timer now) and harsh nerfing of EC making even on vendor loot. Everything they did during that time made no sense at all and irritated a lot of people and they didn't change a few things back until over 12 months afterwards. It was a total mess. From what I saw the queues never recovered back to previous levels. Compare to what it was before it is dead even at peak time.
Just did some normal borg space STF after having been gone for a few months and yah the queue times are pretty long. How are they for the most current group queue'd content? i notice a few new ones in there but i dont know which ones are the newest or from the previous content release. What about adventure zones? last ground zone that was released before i went on break was the Kobali and last space was still Dyson. Are there new adventure zones? what's the activity look like in those?

I think there will be that initial spike in interest but we'll be back to status quo.
The easiest solution: return the Dil that was nerfed.

the game doesn't have the same player base it used to in the past after PW tinkered with the game during Delta, the rep systems, etc. My fleet is pretty much dead with only a handful of people logged on at any point of time.

You really think that the reintroduction of ~200 more Dil for an advanced map would offer that much of a difference to players? I mean if somebody gets particular with the daily mark reward, converts the reputation marks to Dil and ads up the regular Dil reward we still look at ~2-2,5k Dil for every advanced run one does. On elite it’s more like ~2,5-3K. Miners Instabilities elite even offers ~4k Dilithium per run at the moment. That’s quite a bit for half way experienced groups.

Yo, Delta Rising is the core of the problem. What did it do? Simple, it introduced a progression curve two to ten times as demanding as the one we had before it. All of that just to be as successful on the same old maps as we had before. I think the “one does not need more than mk12 rare gear in order to play the game” community simply encounters too much of a hard time there. I’m afraid the contend (as in teamed PvE maps) itself is simply not interesting enough for a wide group of players in order to bring themselves into a position to do queues at reasonable reward-levels.
It is really a dilemma. The lack of Dil elsewhere would successfully “force” more peeps to play them however forcing anybody is not the right course of action. Still increasing the rewards in queues isn't exactly a solution either because they reward highly already for players that are in a position to cope with them. Refinement cap is easily reached within 20 minutes of tending to this activity.
All one needs is a good team.

btw: another reason may be the number of specs trees and hence xp needed - PvEs give less xp than admirality. I noticed that I spend more time admiraling around than actually playing. Unless I am mastering a ship. In that case I Change instances till I find a Borg Invasion or tholian alert, do those and then Change character to repeat that...

If they would make Dil an almost queue exclusive currency again things would change rapidly…
