I don't see any point of making a 'new' species if they just going to mirror the Federation in principles and join them in their happy alliance. I know Star Trek is about Utopia and being super perfect and morally right all the time. But it's also about exploring other cultures that don't reflect the Feds at all and for Cryptic to take Romulans and Klingons and change their qualities is just plain wrong. What's the point? If everything in the entire universe is White and White?
(Romulans being the Fed Republic was the worst direction for them to move imo. Not to mention all the idiotic things they have done to cripple their military and culture, as if Romulans could be that stupid.)

The game has only 2 factions blue and red. Even when they created the Romulans the did all they could to give them the feel of a separate faction with ships, starter story and a couple social zones but they are still not a true faction as they have no fleet base and have to choose blue or red. Besides according to canon from the shows and even STOs temporal accords mission. KDF and Roms along with many others all join the Federation soon enough.
Give players a few more purchasable species sure I can agree with that but no more pseudo factions.

Romulan Republic is non-canon (thank goodness). And D'Tan only appeared in one episode (Part II), and from the look of it that underground movement was compromised, certainly wasn't in any position to go cruising around in scimitar dreadnoughts.
I am thankful we can play Romulans and fly their iconic ships. But it ends about there. Story arc was let down to anyone expecting the traditional race on screen. Blue/Red is meaningless when pvp is such low priority.

Hmm, my screen says someone added a comment but there is nothing there.

Given that I have a dislike for "goose-stepping morons", as Dr. Jones put it, I dislike the idea of playing as a member of the RSE.
