I always thought an interesting race to play would be a tribble because then I could just pet myself everytime I needed a buff. It'd be even more interesting if it was KDF faction.
Tholians would be good, except that you typically wouldn't be able to leave your ship without an environmental suit. Could you imagine accidentally beaming down to ESD forgetting it?
What I don't understand is why so many people keep wondering what the Breen look like. I mean, I saw a Breen take off its helmet one time, and it looked suspiciously like Princess Leia.
I remember having Ubese armour in SWG, awesome looking. Shame you can't customize the Breen bridge officers.

I would like to see what everyone thinks would be a good species/race that would most likely be added into the game as a playable species so here is a list of other species/races in Star Trek that would possibly make it in the game.
which one you all think would be a good fit as an expansion and why?
1.Borg
2.Breen
3.Cardassian
4.Hirogen
5.Kazon
6.Tholian
7.Xindi
8.Ba'ku
9.Suliban
10.Denobulan
11.Vaadwaur
12.Krenim
13.Iconian
14.Ocampa
15.Acamarian
16.Angel I native
17.Benthan
18.Hazari
19.Dominion (as a whole)
Kziniti! and not the lousy animated version but the true nasty Larry Niven Kzin.
What I don't understand is why so many people keep wondering what the Breen look like. I mean, I saw a Breen take off its helmet one time, and it looked suspiciously like Princess Leia.
In the novels the Breen weren't a race, they were a culture. They wore the masks in public so that the 12-or-so humanoid races that made up that culture didn't have to self-identify what they were to their fellow Breen. It helped damp down species prejudice and allowed the culture to operate more smoothly.
I thought it was some genuinely thoughtful sci-fi world building and thus obviously had to be ignored by other branches of the brand .
I'm surprised no one's suggested an Organian. For one thing, being an Organian means you have the power to stop such foolishness like the Iconian and Temporal Wars in their tracks with the simple wave of a hand. Besides, getting to play a "light bulb" would give me the chance, once and for all, to find out how many people it would take to change me.

while the idea sounds nice at first.... I just can't visualize it working. Getting billions of people to always wear those clumsy costumes any time they go out in public? seems a lot like herding cats....
Vorta/Aenae with a whole array of telepathic attacks and defenses. Tbh, I could see the release of these races as a great mini-expansion to ground combat within the game: new telepathic racial abilities plus conventional defenses that non-telepaths could use as resists against them.

Given the awful, awful things we've done to each other over differences as minute as ethnicity within the same species, I can see how that would be a relatively modest price to pay to coordinates a milieu of species... some of which probably had centuries of bloody war under their belts before the unification. It's also possible they have greater environmental variance than even Vulcans (hot) vs. Andorians (cold), greatly simplifying the environmental demands of public spaces. At home they were far more relaxed, and at the Star Trek tech level it's likely that many less physical occupations could be conducted from home or private offices. And if its the unifying touchstone of your whole culture, I bet some substantial thought and effort could go into making the masks extremely comfortable and ergonomic to use.
Plus so practical for many occupations - Suffer an unexpected hull breach and you're already suited up.

Dating must be awkward though.
Cross-the-line-twice:
Xindi-Avian (would require time travel though, which cannot happen in STO...)
Completely impossible IMO:
Vorta, Jem-Hadar, Founders, non-Cooperative Borg, Iconians (they work on completely different levels than other races, so everything would have to be redone, not "only animations". Vorta don't fight, Jemmies don't really order, Borg don't have a free will - would stretch the term "playable" - and so on. Maybe already true for some of the races I mentioned above, of which we often don't know too much.
My mother was an epohh and my father smelled of tulaberries
Most of those main ones can be created from Aliens or already exist. Another work around is the holo projectors.
Borg is already in the game from Lifer sub
Cardassian can be made with the Alien
Hirogen can be made with the Alien and the armor outfit already exist
Vaadwaur outfits already exist
Denobulan can be made with the Alien
Suliban can be made with the Alien
Dominion Vorta,Jem'Hadar and Changlings can all be made with the Alien and the Jem'Hadar outfit already exist
(I have a Jem'Hadar I made and put him in a T6 Bugship )
I am sure most of those others can be made to be close to the originals using the alien species.
I wouldnt mind a Breen ground armor set outfit put in to make a toon look like one. (suggestion for next winter event?)

Just make a cosmetic item. So long as the item is in your inventory, you take on the appearance of a Breen (the whole suit). Once that item goes into the bank or is destroyed, cosmetic appearance goes away.
Of course that can even open the door to RP because nobody knows what a Breen looks like under those suits...NOBODY.

Be that as it may, I never said the idea had not benefits, just that getting billions to actually agree to do it would be unlikely to work.
To a extent. I've seen the Cardassian gen, but there are options missing. Noticeably their necks. Plus no point playing them if you can't fly their ships, just not the same.

You can with the box ships just make a Cardassian and get a Galor

What about their uniforms?
They did say they were going to revisit the missions and revamp the cardassian npcs. (I think) So we might just get them as AOY expansion some point in the future. Until then I'll patiently wait.

Cardassians are probably coming. Given that some of the oldest lock box stuff is reused (Temporal, Ferengi) with the exception of the Cardassian one, and that they indeed updated a lot of Cardassian related stuff, I think we'll see them for the next expansion.
Unfortunately, I would like to add. There are many more species that are more interesting and more deserving of being playable if you ask me. Especially species that we didn't see much.
Many argue that Cardassians are, besides the classic three of Federation, Klingons and Romulans, the species with most time on-screen and that they are the most well developed species of those that aren't playable yet. For me however, this is mostly a reason why they should not be given priority. There would be much more freedom for Cryptic if they created another unique race or if they built a faction around a (some) species that we don't know that much about yet. There's only so much to explore of a culture if they are already so well known.
Oh and of course, if you released a lesser known species that allows more freedom for Cryptic, you would avoid the criticism we saw when the Republic was released: the complaints that they weren't true Romulans (complaints that go, imo, against one of the core principles of the franchise as change was always a main topic and in the case of the Romulans, much needed) that they softened them too much and such.
The Cardassians as an independent empire, like we saw before the Dominion War, wouldn't be interesting. We already know they end up being part of the Federation and having them as a truly independent faction in the meantime with an own agenda doesn't make much sense with regard to the developments we've seen post-DW. If they'd go the old way then it would only make them look stupid. So in order to make them an interesting species (one that learns from past mistakes) they would likely be similar to the Republic: they'd have their own assets, public hubs and missions but ultimately they would not be very different from the factions we already have.

Lt. Arex FTW!
For Feds Aenar and Tamarians
(also Benzite boffs)
For Roms Suliban.
Would be fun but too much work:
Horta
Would be fun, but be too much work, require an own faction, and make mincemeat of existing storylines:
Elachi, Tholians, Breen

Cryptic made it so you can do so much with the Alien species and various outfits available. Aenar, Fed Orions, etc.
