"Temporal Agent Reward - Reputation (account wide)" yay or nay?

plaztikman64plaztikman64 Member Posts: 725 Arc User
The "Temporal Agent Reward - Reputation (account wide)" basically states that you'll get Mk XIII UR items from the point you're activating the reward box. Sounds nice, but what about upgrading these items? Why are people crafting lower tier items? Because it actually raises the chances of gaining a quality upgrade along the way, right? So with each mark, you'll get another chance of gaining a quality upgrade... so here is my question:

Does it make sense, raising these already high rank items by one more rank+changing the quality to UR? Is this a reasonable approach? Or should people rather not activate these boxes?

Please vote & debate. :)

    Why shouldn't they?
For all intents and purposes we are getting a free upgrade since "all" reputation items start at Mk XII VR.

See... If you have choices between Mk12 VR and mk 13 UV.... Well, 13UV is basically the same assuming you got a favorable upgrade roll... but doing so is costly, and has a low chance of success.

You basically have no chance to upgrade rarity from Mk XII to Mk XIII. The fact that the gear is already UR is a HUGE deal and having the gear start at Mk XIII will save me some dil for getting the gear to MK XIV.

This is an easy vote for yay. You get Mk XIII instead of Mk II. You get Ultra Rare instead of Very Rare. You actually make it somewhat more palatable to "on the cheap" grab like withering disruptors or bio phasers if you want. You definitely make the Iconian 4 pc set much easier to just grab and then work on upgrading later. It's a good thing to activate imo since it's accountwide and essentially boosts the power of my alts without any real massive investment in making them as geared up as my main.

IN short, my undergeared alts will be less undergeared.

It's a great way of making Rep Gear a bit more affordable, with the way the Upgrade costs are increased for them; rather than gambling at VR Mk XII, you get a guaranteed bump to UR MK XIII. I do admit that having the Temporal Recruitment go away is going to make things more imbalanced for new players, but maybe this Recruitment version will see occasional re-runs or variants from the perspective of the other two factions with comparable unlocks available (probably a little too optimistic there, but whatever). The only thing that would've been better would be having the option to obtain Rep gear at VR Mk II, so you could Upgrade from there (with actual Upgrades, not the "free" Upgrades to Mk XII that actually decrease your odds of a Quality increase).

In any case, it's definitely a nice thing to have, and it makes picking up Rep (as opposed to Crafted) gear a little more attractive.

UV at something lower mk than 13 would be preferable, but the current choice is VR 12 or UV 13.... Ideal of course would be UV1, but good luck with convincing the devs to give you that. :p

Mk XII very rare vs. Mk XIII ultra rare.
It already comes with a rarity upgrade, so complaining about missing out on the chance of one is foolish. Would it have theoretically have been better if they made it Mk XII ultra rare? Sure, but I think it's fine as it is and a great gesture by the devs!

I don't care about epic gear or upgrading everything to mk xiv, so this works great for me.

Lets see: I can spend resources leveling a XII to XIII and have maybe a 7% chance of getting an ultra-rare bump... or I can save those resources and start at XIII with a 100% chance of the UR bump.

    No contest?

Best account wide benefit ever and the players love it. Without sarcasm even.

They should have made all the reputations account wide, IMO.

Having to grind out said faction reputation and use tokens to pass it on to alts is tedious and unnecessary. If you've busted your a** on one to get it maxed out, you shouldn't have to keep doing it just to satisfy the Time Sink Gods/Goddesses.
It's not you- it's me. I just need my space.

Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.

Well thanks for the replies so far. It really sounds like a fair deal, especially for those who do not plan on upgrading their items or even want em to become EPICs, but I wasn't sure if this logic actually plays out in favor for the players after all, considering the logic/ upgrade method described in my preview post.

    One more question:

Is it possible to get two quality upgrades whilst upgrading from one Mk to the next? I remember upgading a torpedo and got it to epic rather quickly, but I wasn't paying attention if the system has skipped a quality level or if it just upgraded the torps quality level one after another, both at a very low percentage rate. If yes, then, even though it was a lucky shot, wouldn't this lower the chances of getting to EPIC within these new parameters? If no, then please ignore this ;) And yes, I haven't upgraded much, and when I did then I just wanted to get it over and done!!!:)

See explanations above. OP is complaining about losing the chance for a rarity upgrade in exchange for: a 100% guaranteed rarity upgrade + free tech upgrades + dil for tech upgrades.

OP, in case you are still confused, going to UR is the best possible outcome in upgrading from Mk XII to Mk XIII. It is not possible to jump straight to Epic.

I have held off any of my characters getting any Reputation Gear until this is unlocked.

Does anyone know if you start doing a Reputation can you apply the Sponsorship Token at a later point and begin getting 5,000 Reputation Points for the Dailies from that day forward?

Yes, you can add the sponsorship token after you have already started. It is not retroactive, except that if you have an unclaimed reward from the previous day that will get you 5.000 XP instead of just 2,500.

"states that you'll get Mk XIII UR items from the point you're activating the reward box" NO! that is not at all what it states. none of the reward boxes are going to be Mk XIII UR. It's just the special rep gear and nothing else.

Thank you. I was holding off doing Temporal on my Temporal Recruit because I had another Character going for the unlock, but I just may now start it up and save a few days.

Reputations take too long and the system as implimented is not something I consider to be "content" so it doesn't keep me around when I run out of actual content. Cryptic can I please be allowed to pay zen to max out non-current reps?

Twenty days with sponsorship and my Temporal Recruit will be Tier 5 in eight Reputations. Eight minutes a day at most. I just allocate the Rewards from unlocking Temporal Probes to different ones to keep all above 250 Marks. Doing Reputations is not content, content is running Red Alerts, PVE Queues, and Battlezones to get the Marks needed to buy equipment. Doing Reputations is like doing Doffing, Admiralty, or leveling up Crafting.

All non-Recruits on an Account could garner 835 Temporal Marks just from the Recruit leveling to 50.

It's a great account-wide reward for people like me who usually don't care to upgrade stuff due to the lousy chance for rarity increases and amount of dil it takes.

Unfortunately, some of my characters already have reputation gear. The change is only for newly acquired items, after you get the temporal recruit reward. But it's not a big deal. Very rare Mk XII stuff is still pretty good.

Besides, my 23c captain is my new main, and my alts are geared decent enough if I ever needed to use them for anything.

Doffing, Admiralty, and crafting are all things I also don't do, and crafting is the only one I see any value in. The other 2 could be deleted and I'd be happier.

They are really good and easily decided over my better judgment not to make a 10th char in this game. Combined with the reward from the delta recruitment a while back the new toon itself has a laughable easy start into sto endgame.

Well, when the Character Level was raised to 60, many asked that the Reputation gear by upgraded to Mk XIV. Cryptic didn't do that. Perhaps this is their attempt of meeting those Requests. Not XIV but XIII and UR.

I don't know if you created a Temporal Agent or not as you indicate that you are KDF mostly. If you do have a Temporal Agent then you will need to leave one of your reputations at Tier 4 otherwise the others will get stuff they didn't really earn.

I take it you do not use Sponsorship Tokens.

I take it you did not take Neil Falconer or the Assimilated Cruiser from those Promotions.

I take it you only use that Spec Point or Special Tech Upgrade during the first run of a Weekly FEs on the Character that ran it and obtained it, or you discard them.

Not sure theres a negative side here tbh if you have alts at all. For those that dont do rep its easily ignorable, for those that do its a very nice, somewhat game changing bonus.

That's why I have created this thread, because I wasn't sure as well. :) Not to complain or blame anyone or anything in particular. Again, with the currently "best way" of upgrading items in mind, I was under the impression that perhaps this reward pack wouldn't deliver >as intended<, but after all, it seems like my assumtion was uncalled for. So thanks everyone for your comments, and thanks cryptic for the AoY event and all the rewards, especially the account wide packs!!
