Making GPL a Worthwhile Currency

GPL is one of the few currencies in the game that is actually canon, yet it is the most restricted currency. There are very few, if any, profitable uses for it unless you want a holo-ship emitter, trophies, or some sunglasses. I have some suggestions that might make this currency unique, relevant, and profitable for the players.
1) Acquisition of GPL
Right now GPL is hard to come by in large amounts. Others before me have suggested increasing the stakes at Dabo to increase the amount of GPL that can possibly be earned. This would serve the purpose of being an EC sink and allow players to gain bigger priced items in an expanded store.
2) New Items in the GPL Store
a) Admiralty Cards - Let players be able to buy 1x Admiralty Cards for a set amount of GPL. Perhaps let players select the type/Tier for an increased priced. For example, Shuttles 500 GPL, T1 600 GPL, and of course higher as you went on.
b) Console/Trait/Equips - This recent LB opened the door for selling traits/consoles to other factions ships. A frequent complaint among players is missing old ships and equips for sets. Make special equips/traits/consoles a bundle and sell them in the GPL store like the Vengeance pack is in the Lobi Store. For example, the Secondary Deflector from the Dyson Destroyer, Nandi Console/Trait, Kobali Warp Core/Console/Trait all could be sold in the store for 100,000 GPL or so.
c) T5/T6 Ships - Another potential path could be for them to place the older event ships in the store for GPL. Something similar was done for the Obelisk ship. These would be character unlock ships, but maybe an option could be made for account unlock if you spend more GPL.
Potential Advantages:
1) It makes GPL Relevant
2) Players get access to things they want or may have missed. It gives new players an opportunity to earn the older ships.
3) Cryptic gets good PR because it allows them to give the players something that is requested, but it is not a giveaway.
4) There is no gamblebox mechanic involved. You get ground skills using the Ferengi doff, you get GPL. You do doffing, you get GPL. You spend EC at Dabo you get GPL. People may be encouraged to buy keys to sell for EC to work towards the goal, but everything is definite.
It could work. Just trying to find ways to make GPL relevant to the game.

I'm somewhat skeptical of throwing Traits and Starships in the GPL store, considering it's fairly easy to get GPL enmasse, especially if you have the Doff Somog from Broken Circle (?).

The only problem is that it serves no purpose at all.
I would personally make anything fun and cosmetic like uniforms, pets etc. be available with latinum. Basically anything that won't make you a better player but is just a bit of fun.
Yeah GPL was always intended to be the novelty currency. Add outfits, uniforms, pets, nerve tonics, tribbles.. but nothing which significantly impacts gameplay.

You're obviously joking considering how precious dilithium is for basically everything in this game. Upgrades, Fleet gear, Rep Gear, did I mention upgrades.... Zen, Upgrades... Rushing research..

On topic: I doubt we'll see things like traits in the GPL store, as the only source to buy them from, so far, has pretty much been Lockboxes. 1x Admiralty Ships are a nice idea, though.
Oh, and @gradii, I suspect @warpangel is referring to the fact that Dil now only buys you a fraction of the Zen it used to on the Dil Exchange, in which case, they are not joking at all.

Or at least make their consoles, unique weapons, and traits available in the store, just as the Vengeance pack is doing now. Of course this would require an intensive amount of GPL 500k-1mil to make sure people are not just being handed out the goodies.
Offer at the Ferengi Tailor, 1 time use unlocks for Character modifications.
For GPL of course.
It allows a player to ignore tailor restrictions BUT 'usually not allowed' items
come at a GPL cost PER ITEM !
want different ears on you human SURE ?.....for a price.
want fur skin texture ?..no problem....if you have enough GPL
want a Jemidar head...not sure why but sure....bring a large bag of GPL...can do.
Price is given when choosen, in GPL, one time use, if you change your toon back,
it is gone.

Keep GPL to novelty items only and don't change the acquisition rate.
Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.
How much of an "advantage" do you think Cryptic would consider this?
And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't every tier 6 ship in the game either a limited time offer or something that requires real money? Zen is money, keys are money (even if not yours), and lobi crystals are money (again, keys).
Do you not think that is by design?
Those event giveaway ships are limited time offers because they are supposed to be, not because Cryptic couldn't think of a way to make them attainable in perpetuity.
Now, 1X Admiralty ships? Sure.
Maybe even some pets and other little things.
But tier 6 ships? Bringing the limited time ships back for anyone to grab at any time?
No. Not going to happen. At least not until tier 8 ships appear in the game (and even then I wouldn't hold my breath, especially regarding the limited time ships).
It is a worthless currency at the moment because of how how easy it is to get in relatively large amounts. For it to be used for anything serious would require a complete wipe of GPL and a revamp of the whole GPL system.
This is F2P, premium ship are what they sell to pay the bills.
Even if you grind Dil to buy zen for it...someone purchased the zen.

You do know a "relatively" large amount of GPL is a few HUNDRED thousand, not a few tens of thousands.
That's how much some of the prizes cost after all.

They moved a few items from the lobi store into the dil store. I say put bound to character lobi outfits into the GPL store, at the very least put pets there.
