The thread on Klingon Culture/Ship design made me realize this. Others say it looks like the Bat Signal, but if you picture it with a more steel coloured skin, then it looks like a Klingon Bat'leth.
The Temporal Raider is a better Bird of Prey than the KDF's own Birds of Prey.
And everyone has access to it.
It just doesn't "look" right to me. I will stick with my Kor.
I wouldn't mind getting the D4X though....but that will never happen.
Rather buy a newer car. LOL!
Aesthetics is the only thing the KDF BOPs have going for them. The Temporal Raider breaks rules that Cryptic had continuously held back KDF BOPs:
Cmdr Universal/Temporal Hybrid + Lt Universal/Temporal Hybrid Stations. Not even the Kor has Cmdr Hybrid.
5 TAC Consoles, because people long would have protested had the KDF gotten a 5 TAC Console BOP.
Molecular Reconstruction for added flexibility:
- Offense toggle makes the Temporal Raider 2nd to only the Pilot Escorts in terms of handling. She flies magnificently in this setting.
- Support toggle gives significant Science oriented boosts. The only thing a Science Build Temp.Raider is lagging on is SCI Console Slots and Sensor Analysis. For the consoles you can use Universals to help out. Then again, not even the B'Rel has 4 SCI Console Slots. The lack of Sensor Analysis is offset a bit by Molecular Reconstruction Support toggle.
This thing is more multi role, flexible, better flying, and hits harder than any of the KDF's BOPs. And everyone has access to it. The only thing T6 Kor has going for it is the BOP skin and Enhanced Battle Cloak. Because Temporal Raider has rendered every other BOP useless.
I don't fly stats. I want to fly a BoP that looks like a BoP.
Let's look at this another way:
What if the Vengeance looked like the Bortasqu or Vo'Quv or a Scimitar?
Not the stats....it could keep the same stats...but it just LOOKED like them.

The KDF already has something better than Vengeance. It's called the Qib. Feds already had a better version than Vengeance, called the Eclipse, but everyone forgets that!

Raise your hand if you're surprised at this?
(crickets).
Right. Here's your breakdown...
1. five consoles-because less than five won't sell to Federation players.
2. CDR Universal/Hybrid+Lt. Universal Hybrid because anything less won't sell to Federation players.
3. Superior Handling-because it's gotta invalidate any Bird of Prey before it and has to compete with the Federation Pilot Ships.
4. Science oriented boosts because it's got to match sales with the 'other' six weapon ships (Federation Science Ships.)
5. Cross-faction because every raider offered to Feds in the past for actual money has flopped hard and they're hoping KDF players will hold their nose and buy it for the stats so they can at least make back the cost of the artwork if it doesn't sell as well as they hope.
If it sells well: Forget every seeing another KDF ship except as a Lockbox booby prize, because the cross-factioning 'worked'.
if it fails to sell well, forget seeing another KDF ship except as a lockbox booby-prize, AND forget getting another raider, because "It didn't sell well".
The 31st Century isn't Klingon, it's "Alliance". Whatever amount of free Klingons there are, they're probably still using *very* old designs.
And everyone has access to it. The only thing T6 Kor has going for it is the BOP skin
And aren't Kor's tailor options still broken, too? Lol...
It isn't able to use a subclass model, and a skin or two. At least you can still see it, unlike the Klingon Empire's go-to Battle Carrier.
The Kar'Fi's graphics being broken this long is just aggravating. No amount of bug reporting in/out of the game, no amount of bug reports in the forums, no amount of screenshot proof has gotten this very old issue fixed at all.
And everyone has access to it. The only thing T6 Kor has going for it is the BOP skin
And aren't Kor's tailor options still broken, too? Lol...
Broken and never fixed is part of the Neglect that is the singular element Cryptic has NOT seen fit to take from KDF, and give to the Feds...in an improved form.
And that is something to think about when obtaining a D4X...if that animation ever breaks...ouch!

The D4x has a hybrid commander pilot/universal seat and a lt. universal/temporal seat and it get pilot manvuers, its the equal of the Temporal Raider and 100% Klingon. And I think that the D4x has the advantage in handling, maybe speed as well, and can call support fighters using a pilot boff ability, but the Temporal Raider has the advantage on alpha strikes thanks to Molecular Deconstruction beam, which can do some nasty damage.
The Kor's only advantage is it looks more Klingon, its console, and and its enhanced battle cloak, which is admittedly nothing to sneeze at.
As for the Kar'fi, its not a Klingon ship at all, its a Feklri ship captured in the war with the Feklri and then enhanced into a Fleet Verison.
The Temporal Raider, the Chronos (very clever name for a cross faction temporal ship), and the Eternal are all partially made up of Federation, Romulan, and Klingon Empire Tech (including Klingon Empire races like the Nausicaans, Orions, and Gorn, possibly others), and they even get a IKS prefix on a KDF character.
With the right shield visual, you can make them look very Klingon and bad TRIBBLE.

But it's still a FEderation ship-they can call it 'Alliance' all they want, but it's a Federation ship, made to sell to Federation players by developers who only want Federation Players in their Federation Game-it's a means to sell Raider mechanics to Feds because Raiders were the last 'stronghold' of KDF play-the last piece KDF did better than the FEDERATION factions.
It's only cross-faction, because 'Raiders' and 'Raider-alikes' have utterly failed to sell Fedside, to the point that even the lockbox ships were cheaper than a Klingon Mirror ship of lesser quality once the blush of newness wore off and people Fedside re-examined their parsing data-they had to make sure it would sell to somebody.
Unless the drop-rate on the D-4 is **** Phenomenal, it's just-another-lockbox ship, offered to sell lockbox/gamble boxes and choke the EC market on the exchange. For the price you'd have to spend to have one, either in grind or keys, it BETTER be good.
in the case of the cross-faction raider, it's about disincentivising the KDF players further, since all those advantages really perk up with a Fed-Romulan captain or with the goodies and traits you can get Fedside that are never going to be available outside of a lockbox for KDF.
in the case of the D-4, it's about making back the price of the license as fast as possible without crossing contractual lines and having an "ENterprise" T-6 constitution-alike in Klingon hands-it's basically there so that they can juice you into buying keys even if you're not a Fed.
The Kor is basically the last Bird of Prey we're going to ever get-and it's flawed, because it was done with reluctance and as little as possible as fast as possible for the narrowest market they could manage possible, and only because they could edit the base B'rel's artwork quickly to make it a full-on three-pack with their Defiant release (a Raptor would've required original artwork-which is more money than they'll spend, given the choice.)
^This.
You can swallow the "look! It's Klingon-esque!" propaganda, but it's a Federation looking ship with the last remnants of KDF exclusivity. No more carriers or BoPs.
It was funny to hear FED players whining about it, though. "This is the squishiest escort ever!" /sigh XD

As patrickngo pointed out, "Raider" gameplay is a failure. Kazon Raider, Breen Plesh Brek Heavy Raider, Fed Aquarius, Baltim Heavy Raider, etc. All have failed. One was a free event ship, the Breen one. One was a low cost mirror box equivalent, the Kazon one. A few premium ones like the excellent Herald Baltim Raider. Most of these ships are excellent Raiders, on par with the KDF BOPs.
Yet they all failed. People flew them for a bit when they first got them like the Breen Plesh Brek and the Baltim. Then they disappear forever.
Meanwhile, the only "Raider" you actually see with regularity are the Klingon Birds of Prey and ONLY because they are Birds of Prey are they being flown, not because they were Raiders.
The Temporal Raider as I pointed out is flat out superior to any of the KDF BOPs, yet retaining all the key features of the KDF BOP, except for the B'Rel/T'Varo Enhanced Battle Cloak. But it has it's own special features that the KDF BOPs lack.
Yet despite that clear superiority of "being a better BOP than the KDF's own BOP" these things are almost never seen in the game being used by players. Of the 3 ships from the 31st cent ship release, I see far more of the Chronos and the Science Vessel. Especially the Chronos.
For the most part only KDF players will use the Temporal Raider, fed players will try it, but not know how to fly one, and so put it away, so I honestly wouldn't worry about it being cross faction.
I think the KDF got the better end of the deal.
It doesn't take special knowledge to know how to fly an Eternal or Chronos.
The Eternal is finally a science ship for the KDF that is as good or better then any science ships the Feds have. Sure the Feds got a BoP in the Temporal Raider, but the KDF got a Temporal Vesta in the Eternal, which do you think will see more use in the long term, Eternals KDF side or Temporal Raider fed side?
Then there is the Chronos, what appears to be the most popular of the 31st Century ships (followed by the Eternal), which is the KDF's first Dreadnaught Cruiser, another hole filled in the KDF line up.
The feds already have a Raider, but they don't know how to use it, so this doesn't really fill a hole in they're line up, except as a none console battle cloak.
If you know how to use the Temporal Raider, it should be brutal.
Cloak, wait till you have full offence counters, switch to Support mode then decloak, fire your Molecular Deconstruction Beam, Rapid Decay, Recursive Shearing III, and everything else you have at it in an Alpha Strike.
Why switch from Offence Config to Support Config at the last minute? Once you Offence Counters are full, Offence Config only boosts your turn rate and speed, but Support Config boosts your Exotic Damage by 20%, including that dealt by your Molecular Beam, and boosts control as well.
Still if you do this you may want to go with a Torpedo boat set up as energy weapons damage is diminished by 16% in Support Config.
Molecular Deconstruction Beam disables your target as well, allowing you to recloak and get away, should the target happen to survive the Alpha strike.
Here is a video I found of a Temporal Raider vs. a Vorgon Heavy Escort.
You'll notice how the Heavy Escort just gets crushed when the Temporal Raider uses its battle cloak, so the Temporal Escort stops using it after the first few times, and seems to still win 75% of the time.
If the Temporal Raider had kept using its battle cloak, it would have won close to 100% of the time.
The 31st Century isn't Klingon, it's "Alliance". Whatever amount of free Klingons there are, they're probably still using *very* old designs.
the word alliance leads one to believe the Klingon Empire is still a stand alone entity just allied with the federation, ( which I appose) but what the devs are doing is trying to make the Klingons assimilate to federation ideas which would destroy the empire. and you can see that now. why play KDF side if you can all we have and even more if you play feddy bear? starfleet fans wont play our side. its takes a star trek fan to be interested enough in our side.
Trophies for killing FEDS ahh those were the days.
The first question out of my mouth when my friend asked me if I wanted to come and play Star Trek Online with him was, "Can I play Klingon?"
I am not leaving my Kor.... stats or no stats.
I want a raider to look like a BoP....I won't fly it otherwise.
Why bother to continue throwing "stats" as a reason?

I am not advocating it, but I bought all the TOS ships, including the Ouroboros. Of course, I also own all the KDF ships. Even the lemons like the Varanus. (Which to me is mostly a lemon because the Tier 3 and 4 Gorn ships look far better).
I now also own the D4X. Well, the box at least, I still have to decide which KDF character will get to fly it.
The Ouroborus greatest problem is that it can't use any alternative materials (not to mention no alternative costume parts). If I could use just one of the newer KDF materials, it would be awesome.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
After the contraband nerf that killed the motivation to get the D4X lol. Although the KDF has a track record with pretty much the rest of the game now of Cryptic listening to what players want and then abusively do exactly what they do not want.

What do you mean? Players asked for a T6 Connie, a BoP with Pilot Maneuvers, and Romulan Carrier, and they delivered on those wants. In the most expensive way possible.

I honestly only see the bat symbol with part of a lollipop/popsicle stick attached to it.
With those bubble windows and such...submarines-y??? I don't know.
That pointed tail throws it into manta ray stinger arena for me. Batman symbol has a developed tail??? I don't recall.
