Star Trek Into Darkness no longer on Netflix?

Did they take it off recently? Because I clearly remember watching it on Netflix not too long ago.

Canadian Netflix, BTW.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

It's only available on DVD here in the US-Netflix now.

You'd think they'd have both JJverse movies on there, what with Beyond being less than two months away...

NetFlix regularly rotates their selection. One time I was at my friend's house and saw Babylon 5 on there. After I got Netflix I looked it up... wasn't there.

The Wrath of Khan is still there, they probably figured they didn't have to have the original and the remake on at the same time.

I just finished watching Into Darkness for the second time (on DVD). I actually found I enjoyed it a lot more the second time than when I watched it originally when it came out. A lot of the things the Internet exploded about when it released didn't honestly bother me the second time round. Just saying.

Anyway, back on topic. Streaming companies like Netflix buy licenses to stream other studios' content for a limited time. This varies, but is probably usually done on an annual or quarterly basis. With Beyond coming up, Paramount are probably holding the license. In a month, once Beyond is released, you'll probably find all the Star Trek films (and maybe the shows, if CBS agrees) on Netflix's front page.

I imagine Netflix is going to eventually lose the license to stream any of the Star Trek televisions shows with CBS All Access coming.

Maybe in the US. Not so sure about other countries though

All of the shows, including the animated series, are already on Netflix.

Not in the UK (last I checked). I could only find episodes from TNG.

Well, they probably anticipate increased interest and either:

A ) they're hoping people will buy it if that's their only option

B ) a premium channel or one of the other streaming services made a deal to have them exclusively for the Beyond launch

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

OK I have a much bigger problem, when I start an episode of Caillou now it says it's only available until July 1st, I have a 4 year old and a 3 year old who will start a riot if Caillou is taken off of Netflix ...
