It's completelly understandable that the consoles need different UI & ability to control the game, given their limitations. PC & consoles are way too different and usually when things from consoles are 'ported' onto PC, it actually ends up being limiting factor, rather than a good thing. I have to agree with the OP - let PC users to keep the controls & UI we currently have.

Honestly, if this "new" UI doesn't hog resources like the "current" AI does (aren't there reports that in some of these "laggy" areas shutting the UI off spikes framerates?) - then I'm all for having it "imported"...
The primary difference is that us PC users should keep the two boxes of hotbars and their associated keybinds over being forced into the "open - aim - fire" system that doesn't give us a one-glace at power cooldown statuses...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

The hotbars and keybinds contribute to the resource hogging doesn't it?
The UI lag I don't think is because of any particular feature, just that it's old and creaky and has had a lot of stuff shoehorned into it that wasn't originally there. They've been talking about doing an overhaul of the UI backend, and the blog post about console support mentions doing that. Those backend improvements will probably be ported back to the PC version giving us better performance, but I highly doubt they'd foist the console control scheme on us. If anything, it'd be an option for those that would like to use a controller, since the current controller support requires a lot of patience and custom keybinding to really use.
Anyway, console UI is what I would've expected. Four powers quickly accessible using either the face buttons or D-pad, and access to the remaining powers via a submenu. Workable for a controller, but definitely slower than what we have on the PC with a full keyboard.
I share most of the worries in this thread. I hope the PC version isn't punished with those awfull wheel menus and limited to four active powers.

OP, thanks for sharing that screen. If a 6 year old PC Game gets turned into a console game, well, unless the gameplay is drastically remodelled, it won't go down well.
It's an improvement. Please replace the current button and spacebar UI with this.
Please, define exactly how attempting to shoehorn 17 "standard T6" abilities (this is just BOff powers and Captain abilities) into a "wheel system" that does not take full advantage of the "real estate" on screen is an "improvement"?
Personally, if it wasn't for the fact that I don't see the "BOffs / powers / cooldown status" block on this preview, I'm already bemoaning the lack of... information... that this UI provides me.
Is my grav well off cooldown? Well, since I "unslotted" it to make way for Tac Team, I better activate the "wheel popup" to see... (Kablooey)

Hopefully, it's a checkbox option in the settings menu, so that everyone has the choice to pick what they prefer.
(I can't see myself using it, but then I don't use a controller much on my PC. But I know that some people do. Or that some people like to play their PC games on a big TV, from a couch, in their living room. Options are nice.)
Even on my 65" widescreen that's gonna look awful.

This is the one thing that has killed any excitement I had for the new stuff coming, for a pc game this ui interface is just plain hot garbage.
A couple of priority one interviews ago (before all the big announcements) cryptic did discuss the upcoming UI revamp (sans console context.) They specifically said it wouldn't change the core functionality. For us it would mostly be back end with some visual tweaks to streamline.
The difference between then and now is most likely the insertion "for PC players" (using a mouse and keyboard.)

I imagine the giant wheel only pops up when you hit the button for that BOFF/action bar/whatever, and then disappears when you select a power. (So once the uber controller jockeys get used to it, they'll hit a button and jerk the stick to ~135° before the wheel's even totally appeared, triggering the power & making it go away)
But just a guess/hope.
...hmm. Just four boxes in the corner. Perhaps they just map any powers from Sci/Eng/Tac/Captain onto the four wheels, no matter which setup of boffs you have? So three boffs worth of escort Tac powers on the Tac wheel, and two whole powers from your Lt. Sci on the Sci wheel?
Hopefully, it's a checkbox option in the settings menu, so that everyone has the choice to pick what they prefer.

I've had my PC hooked up to my big TV's for almost four years now.
Been playing STO from my couch for as long as I can remember.

For the PC I'm just hoping for an end to the dang minigame where the buttons in the Low Priority Interaction pane move around when you try to click them.
It looks good for a controller, but please do not force this on PC users!
I'm in complete agreement with @sunfrancks on this one. Please for the love of god and my own personal sanity don't force this UI on us. The "Revamped" duty officer UI is one thing and look how that was received, this one looks even worse. Granted it's needed for the console version, but the current PC one looks just fine.
