...anyone else but me basically seeing an Enterprise-J, just with the addition of an additional pair of nacelles and some obviously necessary scaling down?
The 1701-J is a monster in size and, to me, ugly as sin. Like they took a D/E hybrid, made a model out of silly putty and started pulling. From the saucer's windows in the show you can tell they didn't really put alot of effort in; looks like they just stretched whatever 1/4 panel skin they genned up around it. It was only on screen for a few seconds, so understandable they didn't waste alot of time making a beauty model.
The J is still many centuries away, so we shouldn't see anything looking like a precursor yet, but with all this damn time travel TRIBBLE going on now, Cryptic can pretty much explain anything. Probably could throw in the 1701-Z if they felt like it.

They did. It's the Andromeda/Iconian Dyson Sphere. Was "stolen" from the 59th (and one half) Century by the lone Iconian Herald that could time-travel. We just won't be aware of it's... repurposing into the 1701-Z, until the 47th (and one third) Century when they did so...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

That's a load of bull. The 1701-Z was seen in that TNG episode where Wesley learns that he has "space powers" or some TRIBBLE from the traveler (1701-Z). What you're referring to is the 1701-U.
I'm kinda partial to the Enterprise-Q.
It did so many wacky things and was constantly looking for a Captain Picard.

the j is still a century out as sto is set in the 25th. at this point we are at ent-f, that leaves g, h and i. to go before reaching j in a century or so time.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Which doesn't leave a lot of hope for Captain Shon and Co. does it?
Additionally, on the topic of the "J", the designer is on record in multiple places talking about how they only had like 4 days to work up a design. So of course they didn't really have the time to work on fine details. Besides, if it was as powerful as it has been built up to be, it'd be utterly game breaking as nothing in the galaxy could challenge it on a meaningful level, not even the Borg.
There is no canon reference to the size of the 'J'. Cryptic can always make it whatever size they want. We already have ships well over a kilometre long, making a two kilometre long ship will not break the game.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Take up a whole quadrant in sector space since the freaking Scimitars already do that.

plus tactical fus... i mean borg cubes and voth city ships.
the ent-j is likely to be large in size, it is after all a flagship, it need to look imposing, having the best crew around and if things go south, have the firepower to deal with anything it can handle. i would imagine a little bigger than the sovereign in length, and larger than the galaxy/nebula class is width but also smaller in height.

You'd think they'd just tossed it together in a few hours...not days...basically it's just a flying pancake with a couple tiny nacelles in the back...
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
Looks to me like they've copied the saucer, deflector and forward hull sections wholesale, with some token cosmetic changes. Only major difference is obviously the scale and the 2nd set of nacelles, plus the nacelle structures.
I like it, although I think it would look more elegant without quad nacelles and just have a slightly smaller pair to maintain the J aesthetic. Maybe they can sell it lore-wise as a precursor to the city-ship Ent J.

if cryptic has no right directly to the j or the j is coming later, changing it the way you suggested could be considered plagiarism or not required since j is coming. no way to know for sure though.

But you say it like it's a bad thing.
Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives, including your mother's, and yours.
I dare you to do better.

Wasn't Ent-Q the one with the computer that insisted on calling all of it's Captains "Aunt Kathy" regardless of their actual name?
No, that was Ent-Q.
