well to be mildly fair, even if the gecko wasn't horribly biased himself, the numbers would still lean heavily toward the fedrats

I don't think anybody ever expected the Klingons or Romulans to eclipse the Federation. All Star Trek shows have been from the perspective of Starfleet/humans so far, they are more relatable to humans by the mere fact that Star Trek viewers are human, and they are presented in Trek Media as being pretty much the paragons of virtue that mankind aspires to. The Klingons and Romulans by contrast, are a little more complicated in their ethics and culture.

Romulans/Klingons need more attention for similar results. I have no doubt that the Romulans and Klingon factions in game would be significantly more popular with players if they had similar attention (if never quite as popular), but Cryptic has decided that since the federation has the most readily available player fanbase to exploit, then the best use of their time is to focus almost exclusively on that faction. Which means that with each new round of content releases, parity becomes even more and more distant.

Right now Cryptic is doing essentially the bare minimum to keep their foot in the door to retain access to the core Rom/Kling fanbase. I think we can expect more 'fractions' in the future if this new TOS expansion is anything to go by. An intro and some exclusive ships but then ultimately tied off into one of the major factions (most likely the Federation, but possibly the option to KDF ally as well) This'll let them 'get their foot in the door' with TOS fans, Cardassian fans, etc, but ultimately lets them just keep making fed content, since that's where the easy money's at.

Hmm..I never thought of it that way. Perhaps the TOS faction is a way for preemptively compensating for the low profitability of the Cardassian fraction?

Considering that the Cardassians are a federation Protectorate in STO's storyline, I think we could expect something very much like the upcoming TOS faction for them. TOS faction doesn't look like it will be getting much, if any 'new' ships past the ones at launch-the justification will be pretty simple I imagine...'New' TOS ships aren't being built because of the jump in the timeline. Cardassians not getting any new ships beyond the Hideki, Galor, Keldon (and probably a few Cryptic designs) will be justified by the federation's ban on Cardassian military expansion. Then the player will be asked to be an exchange officer/join starfleet/get abducted by Daniels or Drake.

With that as a template, it shouldn't be too hard to imagine how they might go about the rumored Nutrek faction, or a possible Bajoran or Borg Collective faction.

Well, since they are a federation protectorate atm, i wouldn't hold my breath. If the Fed/Klingon war hadn't been scrapped I could see a separatist faction like the true way siding with the KDF, but Cryptic has long ago made their position on the matter clear with the introduction of the Republic and the ongoing federation-ization of the Klingons. They don't consider 'bad guy' factions/fractions to be worth investing in, even to the marginal degree that it looks like they will be putting into new fractions going forward.

I think yer half right... given the Gecko's whining about how expensive tutorials are, I think spoonheads and anyone else will be lv50 unlock fractions. Get a few exclusive missions which end in them choosing fed/klink. Remember he's the one that coughed up the "death knight style" idea and thought it'd be "really fun"

From what I know about where most Cardassian fans stand, he won't enjoy the metrics. Even my casual fan father, who is a Breen kind of guy, is distasteful with the ideas of the Siskoist UFP. ;)
