So many counters to that. /s
That guy had an immunity or something for him to receive 0 damage..
Based on the reflect, that BO was gonna be a serious hit after resistances were factored in (More than the Pre-resist dmg)..But at least you still had about 45% or 55% resistance to it eh? (Math..I dont want to do.)..
Have you tried Torpedos only? Qwhip and Vex always get me with their speedy Rom Pilot Torp boats...Sometimes in the first pass..
I've had Borticus' reply to the "how to counter fbp" post shoved down my throat as a kneejerk response many times and I was already using everything he listed that is available all of which have zero effect.
...snipped..
His comments are completely sound and logical taken from a pve casual player's perspective though.
I would agree with your comment...I forget how many buffs are used in PVP...2 or 3 of the longest buffs (LTC Subnucleonic Beam) dont mean alot when there are way more than that applied (it is countered by sci team tho..so it could be a counter to a counter effect)..Speaking of which..I better update the wiki on that..its wrong..Says "All buffs" which ..might have been nice if it stayed that way..
I would be interested in what the Devs say is a valid counter to Counter Offensive 300% (30k cap ..they say) reflect..As its not tied to Aux or Prtg for the reflect..
Maybe a better idea would be to cap all Damage sources to a max 1 hit of 30k. FBP..BO,SS,TS,THY,CRF. That would eliminate the insta vape on all sides..Defensive and Offensive..Maybe Have FBP take on the characteristics of the beam hit with (I.e 50% shield pen if that what the attacker had 50% shield pen when it was fired or direct to shield only if the user did not use shield pen...
I'll defend Cryptic on this one. There is a pvp system in place that is meant for the player base that they have. When I say this it means its a Star Trek game not a true to the horses mouth full fledged mmorpg built for serious gamers. Where most of your customers want to have fun but they aren't going to stay if they can't compete that is why one reason afking became so popular with some who realized how easy the game is.
With that being said as business perspective of casual gamers or people brand spanking new to an mmorpg considering pvp which is just the same thing games have had since the late 80's is death match with a plain boring map being the people in it don't usually care whats in it as long as they are fighting another player. So yes you are going to find that its way out of balance because its just not feasible to work around it while trying to make your money so they really are not at fault there.
Another feasible reason to defend this is first they had a slaughter of their co workers not too long ago so they were already wedged in tight and then losing so many people damaged them on top of the work being done at the time not being well received even though we know they put a lot into it. It seemed like they were forced down a certain mindset of the beginning of how the federation space was originally designed and it just wasted many talents of the dev team. Then on top of that they don't have people to put on a pvp team because they are struggling just to get pve lockbox stuff done. Not to mention how many people not understanding the game would think everyone who clobbers them is cheating and demand action be taken.
On the last note of this for those who want better pvp asking for pvp isn't going to get anywhere because its not something in the traditional sense of the game and how they make content the devs really need to scrap what is here and make something that is co-operative play with a hint of pvp but their own version in a star trek themed game they build.
To give an example of dave the klingon who does not believe in combat but is sworn to uphold federation principles. You won't ever find dave in pvp but if say if Cryptic developed a co-operative play where dave the klingon were to be able to participate and say helping in the terms of diplomacy, science, medical, engineering, etc. You then could probably get reps and masteries and such that come up with a system that is not pve and not pvp but something unique to STO. I've tried for years for them to swing into something like this but most of their problem besides what kind of players the player base has is technology. Its very stressful on them to have a map with any more than 20 players.
Heck I do get as irrate or more so than a lot of players about this so much so that because its star trek in general if I had the ability to work for free and get some kind of foundation for a system designed to provide end game to each kind of player out there but sadly I don't think it will ever happen unless they surprise the TRIBBLE out of me lol.
What I mentioned in my previous comment was pre-DR, I am very well aware of the changes, current situation and firmly believe STO is overdue a gear/power balance.
There is no balance possible anymore. The devs have now completely gave up on PvP when DR hit and they just keep adding more cheese with each release. We know they're working on at least one more expansion, so they don't have time to mess with PvP.
-delete pvp for one entire season
-reprogramming it from basics
-release a complete new pvp mode
-???
-profit
This will never happen, so... play it and that's it, it's broken, unplayable beyond repair and we can't do anything about. You don't like it? Leave. At this point i don't blame those who have already left the pvp and/or the game (or, at least, now i fully comprehend why they did that 1-2 years ago, and i talk about real pvpers lol). Thank god i still have a lot of friends and fleetmates to pvp with, they're the only reason why i still enjoy a bit the current sto pvp...
The FBP insanity. It's all my fault. The devs CLEARLY think it's hilarious when my tiny little sci ship with a 60K hull can waltz into a swarm of massive cruisers and shred them all in seconds WITHOUT TARGETING A SINGLE ONE!
Why else would they continue to buff MY build specifically? I mean, seriously, every major new patch/update has made my (admittedly trollish) play style stronger! This, despite numerous predictions of "doom and gloom" for me from my many victims (e.g. "fbp noob...just wait until they nerf your <insert mechanic here> with the next patch!").
A few recent examples:
1. Anniversary Ship: New FBP trait - pushed my FBP damage through the roof, especially when hit by multiple attackers.
2. Skill System Revamp: New shield reflect passive gives me some backup protection for when FBP is on CD, while Probability Manipulation gives my sci skills an APA-like mega boost for taking out stubborn targets.
3. Strategist Spec Tree: Double-whammy of Counter Offensive (more passive "FBP" style defense that's visually indistinguishable from the real thing) and Attrition Warfare so that virtually ALL of my tray powers are on GCD (including FBP).
Bottom Line: Each time Cryptic monkey's with the game mechanics I hold my breath and wonder if "this will be the one that finally breaks PvP for me." And every time I walk away from the change stronger and/or deadlier.
It is fun to see players cry about FBP. The only total TRIBBLE is counteroffensive as it procs up to 10 times => can reflect 200.000 damage. FBP is a common boff skill and can be avoided by reading buffs. Something many players cant or arent able to (not naming anyone, decide for yourself whether you can or cant). Of course it often comes surprising, but thats about the same as getting vaped by one of the last vapers (except for the fact FBP is a bit easier to avoid).
Hey Evul Jacob (Greetings Fellow Jacob and Timeship PVPer)..Probability Manipulator actually doesn't add to our sci stuff crit chance (at least not with those ability's that benefit from Particle Manipulator Trait)....Sci channel admins confirmed this for me.
I agree with Yoda..Counter offensive is strange..FBP is alot more manageable to counter.
