Hello CCP !
There is the new skill system coming up. I and a good number of my STO friends, are paying customers. We invest a lot of $ into your game. For example, I have invested around 1k$ into the game over past year. Some of my friends invested even more. We are "Lifers" and we regularly purchase ships and items from the zen store, or lobby lottery. We are, paying customers.
We are severely disappointed with the new skill system you are about to implement. We see no way to import our existing builds into the new system you are proposing. We see loss of dps, and most importantly, options. I'll be blunt, if we are unable to transfer our builds, or easily replace them with something functional in your new system, you will loose us. We are prepared to abandon the game, we like a great deal. Thus, for the prospect of satisfying new potential customers, who may, or may not invest into your product, you are risking our financial support. The problem is not the fact that you want to make a change. The problem, is implementation, as it appears to be now. The problem is loss of options, annoyance and most importantly, loss of current builds to something less efficient. We just don't want to deal with it. We are tired, what your company, is constantly punishing long time fans and customers. We don't like how we are treated, and how easily you forget about us. I hope, you reconsider current implementation strategy for the new skill tree. We hope, that you ether leave it alone, or redesign in to keep same options or add more, rather then steamline the skill system into less robust system. Yes, we are lifers, yes we will always have access. But we may simply loose interest, and log in far less often. If we do so, we will buy much less of your microtransactions, and some may simply move on outright. There must be a better way to do this, then to force an annoying change on us. We hope you can find it, or postpone it, until you find a better system.
Thank you for your attention!
Respectfully, Hanguko.

I have to agree that they seem to be rushing with implementing this revamp and the new skilltree has issues, some rather nasty, but your claims about not being import existing builds or seeing loss in DPS do not hold any water.
Also, I thought "I quit" threads are not allowed, so inb4lock.

Also, just reading through all the skills helps a lot. If your current skilltree is working ok, just take some time to read through all the skills and it shouldn't be hard to make it more or less the same as yours is currently. Or go on Tribble and test it out for yourself. I think I've burned through at least 50 respec tokens with testing and trying to find the perfect skilltree (and I'm still not finished ), but it didn't take much (perhaps 2, because I didn't take my time to read correctly) to recreate my old one.
And I'm pretty sure a "cookie cutter" skilltree will pop out in these forums as well when S11.5 goes alive.
Yes, they should implement a "commit" button and allow people to fiddle around with skills a bit before actually setting them into stone. Yes, they should create a Skill Loadout system where you could swap between different skilltrees on fly. Yes, they should consolidate Energy and Projectile skills into one skill. But those issues don't change the fact that at least for your regular energy weapon build, you should see an increase in DPS and recreating your current build should be very doable.

You should probably post your current build and ask for some assistance. I've not seen any "considerable" DPS loss from any of my builds and not really seen it from anyone else. There's been some small DPS loss depending on the builds, here and there, but that has to do with the inability of the system to translate directly to the new setup as well as changes that NPCs have gaining more resists/defenses with the consolidation of some skills.
There's even added skills that increase the potential for DPS on some of the more common builds out there.
What's been the trickiest part of the new system for me is determining if any of the ultimates are worth the effort of if a spread out build (which is what ends up being the mimic of the builds I currently have) will just plain perform better. So far the ultimates haven't been worth going for and so my builds will end up being extremely similar when this goes live.
The biggest hassles are:
1- The tree style forces you to lock the choice in with each step. That creates a committment that will lead to more respec purchases and a lot of people have given solid feedback and criticism on how this is a bad change from the current system
2- The choices of where to put certain things (hangar pet boosts, projectile weapon damage bonuses) are a subject of debate
3- The usefulness of some skills versus others (the age-old balance debate)
But over all the new skill tree can replicate your current build quite effectively. The choice ends up being, do you want to replicate your old build or do you want to try out the new skills and try to get more out of your build than before? That's when new choices have to be mad.
A mention of unverifiable friends.
A strident declaration of unverfiable vast amounts of cash thrown at this game.
An equally strident declaration this (overly) dramatic life changing event is being brought about by the dastardly actions of Cryptic itself.
Hmmm...This all seems legit, don't it?
Trolls gonna troll.
Heavy partgen based attacks like DRB seem to have less damage than before but things like grav well and tykens rift which combine more than one skill in the attack seem to have gotten better, at least damage wise.
I agree that the ultimates are a bit of an unknown at the moment. I can't work out if it's better to go highly specialised to acquire specific high-end ones, or spread my build out and not worry about them.
Respecs are definitely an issue though. With the whole system being brand spanking new a lot of people are going to be confused and make all sorts of mistakes. If they then need to spend a fortune buying respecs until they get the right build it could put off the more casual players (who are the vast majority). That could harm the game but we'll have to wait and see.
A system that lets you slot everything first to see what unlocks what, and then confirm at the end would be preferential to the way it is right now.
I've successfully come up with a spec for a very science orientated tac that I'm quite satisfied with, but have 12 more level 60 toons of all types and varieties to go.
Having to re-perfect these toons with RL money would probably result in many of them being taken out of service for a time until more build info is available and I have the time to familiarize myself with what works.
They are making it lock in when you select? So they are REMOVING functionality we had by being able to freely move points around before committing?
Thats it. Thats a desperate TRIBBLE cash grab and I will not be TRIBBLE on in that way. I'm done.
Been playing BDO for weeks, this game can rot.
First of all...during testing several people noticed a drop in DPS. It turned out this was caused by lack of their FLEET's Weekly Project from the Research Lab: Combat Performance Boost (+20% all damage).
These boosts from your fleet does NOT move over to Tribble. So, if they are active for you on Holodeck, that would be part of the problem.
There has been many things that have changed to the game because of this skill tree update. Check your GEAR. Bonuses and modifiers had to be changed to "connect" with the skills in the new tree.
BTW...if your gear is not working the way you feel it should work...drop a note to Borticus or Spartan in the Tribble bug thread so they can take a look at it, and see if it needs to be fixed. There is a lot of gear in the game and, who knows, the gear you are using may have been missed.
P.S. This can effect traits, and abilities, too. So, write a note to the Tribble Bug thread if you see anything not doing what it is supposed to do. Or it may not get fixed in time.
++++++++++
One last thing that I do not understand at all and definitely do not understand if it would effect DPS and how:
They found and fixed a very big bug that Borticus calls : "Strengthened Strengths/Resistible Resists". Try reading his post. Hopefully, someone who does understand this, can stop by to explain how it would effect DPS.
You can read about this bug here:

Hope this helps you and your friends figure out "something" about where your damage points are going.
Good luck.

I did a ISA run and despite my ship being thrown together, the DPS jumped 10k.
I not a fan of the powercreep this skill revamp introduces, but it's not remotely affected my DPS negatively or prevented me from transferring by setup nigh 1:1.
