Frame rate drop since latest patch.

waimserwaimser Member Posts: 12 Arc User
Since the latest patch Ive had a frame rate drop accross the entire game. In some places, ESD for example, its minor, only 5fps or so. In many places it is a massive problem. In the mission Borg disconnected I used to run around 75-80 fps, now on the same settings I am running around 30fps.
Everywhere I have been so far since the patch has seen this performance drop. No other games on my PC are affected, they are all running stable at the same fps they were last week.

I run the game with dx11 disabled via the launcher.

I have an AMD based system, both cpu and gpu

running on windows7

I would attatch a dxdiag but there appears no way to do this in this forum.

This seems to be a common problem with most if not all AMD CPUs

The latest patch has not resolved this issue. The FPS is still deep red on high-end PC.

Indeed; it would appear that whatever was done to fix an issue experienced by high-end AMD CPUs is anything but a fix... again, one wonders how extensively such things are tested before being allowed out of the QA environment. Specifically, it seems that shortly after making use of any attacks or abilities (in the Defara IZ in this case) the problems start.

    Since latest patch u say?
For me, this is not a newborn issue. Only thing that i have experienced since last thursday, that now im getting even lower numbers in the top right corner. I've been having this mayor problem since... hm, i do not even remember having 60 or more frame per sec in this game ever, beside cut scenes. This game should run on my smartphone. yea exaggerating a little.
    Sigh.

Well, I can tell you how much it was tested.
The Tribble test server was patched just a few hours prior this "fix" was applied to Holodeck.
When Ive read the tribble patch notes it already was too later to even consider downloading the tribble files and doing tests.

The fix itself made the problem even worse.
I get worse FPS drops now and Cryptic most likely considers this problem being "fixed" now.

i cant get my fps above 1 on ground missions or in sector space...

    CPU: Intel Core I7 6700k
    Ram: G.Skill Trident Z F4 32gb DDR4
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 TI
    MOBO: Asus Sabertooth Z170

so i dont think its just amd,

i think there are issues with high end systems and the game

Could be... I tried to raise the attention on this issue with AMD CPUs during the past weeks but more and more reports about Intel CPUs appear meanwhile.
It appears to be a general problem with high-end PCs and STO.

I started a Reddit thread back in February on some of my findings with disabling core parking on my AMD system: https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/44yd2u/psa_solved_my_stuttering_performance_issues_in/

However the patch mentioned above resolved the issue for me and I no longer need to disable core parking to get rid of my stuttering issue. Also recently some patch fixed my FPS issues on Risa & New Rom, at least I believe it was that and not the re-installation of my sound card drivers... (The only recent change I've had on my system)

Testing core parking out on my system now, no significant effect for my Risa/New Romulus/early FED issues which are still ongoing. Looking at CPU activity there doesn't seem to be anything particularly amiss during the massive FPS drops. However I've found in the past that my GPU activity is cut in half (approximately) when things are affected and it's worth noting again that my issues occur now on an ATI card but started with Nvidia.

Sound drivers I'll look into again, but I've updated those a few times myself (and incidentally reinstalled the entire OS) between the start of the problems and now.

The core parking stuff had 0 influence on the poor performance for me... and well... the latest fix just made it worse.

This issue just started for me today...im running at 5-10 frames and my CPU is not ramping up at all. Its stuck at 800Mhz on all cores only when playing sto.

    CPU: Intel Core I7 6700k
    Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16gb DDR4
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 TI SC+
    MOBO: Asus Z170-K

Definitely not limited to amd...but cant figure out what the problem is at all

Same here..It aint limited to a particular system config..I am guessing its bad optimisation of the sto engine and by the looks of it from what i have read from other threads it seems that the patches are making things even worse..I'll put a poll up here in the hope that the dev's would se this here..I already have a poll for the connectivity issue on..
