Inappropriate Language Warning email

tremere12tremere12 Member Posts: 477 Arc User
So I called someone "ffing noob" yesterday, and like a big crybaby that person reported me. Now since I've been playing practically since beta I never received a warning email from PWE, because let's be frank, everyone is cursing in online games all the time. STO is furthermore filled with trolls/griefers, exploiters, glitchers, leechers, worse insulters and even hackers and other more malicious people of the worst kind that roam freely and unchecked, and of whom some of them I actually know the handle names (they've been around for years). I could report them any day, but I'm not that kind of person. Let Cryptic see for themselves and handle it i'd say.

I understand my language was a violation, and I don't condone profanity myself actually, but this has to be the violation of practically half the population in the game (or any game). And also take a moment to realize *why* I said what I said; when someone is being pushed there is expected to be a reaction. This is how reality works. The matter was in my opinion improperly investigated.

I hope I have raised awareness as to why I received an warning email for the first time 5-6 years to something completely trivial. Censorship based on feelings and the random whims of every lowest common denominator, rather on solid facts is not the way it should be. It's highly abusive.

You can't discuss moderation or private emails on the forum as far as I am aware. You might even get another warning for this post. :(

P.S: Why did you feel the need to call somebody a 'ffff noob' (I'm guessing the 'F' was spelt a bit differently...)

It's not very grown up is it?

Like I said I don't condone such behavior, so I must've had a REALLY good reason for that right? In any case I think the discussion is fine, I didn't let out too many details.

Let me get this straight - they sent you an e-mail just because you called someone "ffing noob"?

    Pretty much yep.
  • tunebreakertunebreaker Member Posts: 1,222 Arc User
Not to condone such behaviour either, but seriously, in any game, nerves can fry and you can slip something like that out. More moderation is certainly good, but sending warning mails just because you called someone a noob is very uncalled for. Not to mention there are lots harsher choice of words and topics flying around in ESD/Quadrant zone chats. Or trolls who purposely fail missions. Or afkers. If Cryptic/PWE wants to moderate (and I fully support this decision btw), it looks like they are focusing on wrong people here.

Thank you, that's what I'm trying to say.

Well. Now we know one side of the story. I bet the other person would tell a whole different one. In any case, this thread will achieve absolutely nothing. As others have mentioned, discussing moderation might earn you yet another warning from Cryptic.

I don't. So your assumption is wrong. The correct version of this sentence would be:
"..some people are cursing all the time."

Yes I do. You were trying to justify your violation the way somebody would hope to avoid a speeding ticket. "But officer, everybody is speeding here all the time." Doesn't work there, won't work here either.

In a way I agree - and I will "pay" my ticket like everyone else, but that doesn't prohibit me the right to comment. Politics change all the time, it's not an orthodoxy. If they feel the need to close the thread, and put more heat on me, then so be it. But it shall be done so by them, not by you.

What does this thread, and the fact that you needed to curse at someone for, I'm assuming, bad performance in a video game make you?

Does mentioning you have played since beta make you are special player?

I appreciate even the typically snide-trekkie comments. Thanks for making this thread grow either way.

all I can say is I have been playing sto for 5 years and I have never felt the need to communicate with other players other then to say "good game" or "well done all", any other thoughts I keep to myself.
take your slap on the wrist warning and remember to be less free with your opinions in the future.

utter rubbish, it takes time to type those words, time enough for you to think I best not say that.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

You need to disavow this kind of behavior right now.

Seriously though I've never been reported for anything and I can be extremely cruel if I want to. I just never waste my time on Internet douches.

Nicely done sir.....you start a thread complaining about being told off for being abusive to another player, and then go and insult another forum user.
You might just wanna tone down that attitude a bit and just accept that you can't go round acting like that without consequences.
I have no sympathy for you I'm afraid. You got warned for bad behaviour and that's entirely your doing, just accept the warning and try to be nicer to other players in the future. That would be the mature thing to do.

Thanks Steve, I will do exactly that - fall in line for dear leader. But, since it's only a video-game after all, I won't take it any further than this - not worth it.

So far I've seen nothing but name-calling, whining and more whining from you OP.

Where exactly is this constructive criticism? You admitted that it was your own fault that you got reported and received this e-mail. Instead of accepting that and simply face the consequences of your own behaviour, you're opening a thread where you're complaining about the fact that others are doing things far worse than what you did.

If that's supposed to serve as an excuse for your own behaviour, try finding a better one. It's not really convincing. Your attitude isn't helping either.
