Les Moonves on Trek 2017, All Access, and Importance ofInternational Distribution

Another interesting Trek 2017 article, but this one is about the head of CBS.

http://trekcore.com/blog/2016/03/cbs-prez-les-moonves-international-distribution-sales-will-cover-60-of-2017-star-trek-costs/

While this still does not offer details on how CBS plans to distribute this show internationally, those rights will cover 60% of the production costs of the show. That's not a small deal, given that this is a sci-fi show. I think international fans can rest a little easier... clearly, it's an important piece to the puzzle.

Also, the Netflix comments are interesting.

Personally, I think he's grossly over-estimating how many Trek Fans are really willing to pay $6 to $10 dollars to watch one show.
    But, I've been wrong before.

Fair point... and it might end up as true, in the end.

Still, I think they have a generally good perspective, if you look at it from their vantage point. This is their major IP, TV is changing, and they have to look out for their best interests. I personally think Moonves is wrong about the ad-free model... people are only paying for ads because Hulu took forever to offer an ad-free model in the first place, and their content is lacking when compared to Netflix. Still, it's smart for them to try this... it's a gamble, for sure... but, if it works, then they keep all the money, and aren't beholden to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, or whoever.

And, CBS Studios just needs to keep doing what they're doing... make this new show so good, that fans can't say no. As I've said many times, just because you have the subscription, doesn't mean you need to keep it forever.

some people here spend thousands yearly for pixels that will vanish when the game shuts down...and most of them aren't trek fans, nor are they here for the trek portion of the game - those peobably spend even more if they actually have such large amounts of money

don't UNDER-estimate the sheer idiocy of some people when it comes to finances
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

I wouldn't be so hard on STOs or MMOs in general. Everyone spends money on transient trivialities - cinema, holidays, magazines, Starbucks coffees. Paying for an in-game unlock or a TV show is the same, you pay for the fun but get nothing tangible or useful in return. I think a lot of people still regard TV as a "free" commodity, that's all.
